Gmap Sectionals or Nav Data?

I've disabled destination marker. Flying is great. But it's problem when ending job. You don't know where to park. And if destination airport has more buildings, you can taxi around and hope to hit right spot. Only solution is shortcut which puts you right there, but you lose points.

First of all: you can use the Glance key R for that! Problem solved. :wink: To see EXACTLY where you need to go, switch to topdownview when you are on the ground and press R: you will see the EXACT spot where you have to go and park.

Secondly: using the skip option N only costs points when you use it in the air, while flying. The bonus line even says something like 'Bonus for not skipping during flight'. This means that you can skip to the runway (at the start of the job) but also to the parking spot (after landing) without any penalty!

As J said, the Glance command solves this kind of problem. Any time you are not sure where to go, press R and your view will turn to look toward where the Destination Marker would be.

It works for finding your runway, finding your parking spot, finding waypoints on biplane tours, and even finding the airport if you do get completely lost.

If you are in top-down view, it tilts upward at an angle and puts the crosshairs right on the correct spot.

I like it so much I put Glance on my joystick trigger.

Didn't know for glance key. Tnx. But bonus is lost. I've just tried it. After landing I skip to parking. All bonus was lost.

Hmm... I've never lost the bonus for only skipping after I landed and cleared the runway.

I don't skip anymore since they added the Glance, though, as the only time I ever did was when I did not know where to park.

I skipped today after 10 minutes of searching parking place. And as I didn't saw where McDonalds is and didn't know about glance, I've skipped.

Me either, and I still have not - unless it is real close, I always skip to take off, then after landing and clearing runway to parking.

Have not lost the no skip bonus yet.

You have to make sure the game registered the landing: if you don't actually see the message that you should go to the parking spot, you haven't officially landed yet, even though you may be taxiing on the ground! If you press N at that moment I suppose you lose the bonus. So watch the message before you press N!

@Jeroen:

I am very thankful for your effort here to tell and show us about GMap. This is clearly a major expansion for MS Flight to make it more real. But I see you have this neat purple line on your GMap and you wrote:

I just bought that World Nav Data [...] I created the flightplan with Plan-G, saved it as an FSX-plan and loaded it in GMap.

And here's my question: How do yo do this? I have also downloaded Plan-G but I just don't get it how to create a flight plan, let alone how to load it in GMap. Can you give me any advice here? My great goal is to sign in for a job at any airport, have the flight planned on GMap and getting rid of the destination marker in Flight. So I have to find my way on my own. (I truly doubt that the pilots in the real world just follow a yellow dot outside their windscreen...)

Your help is greatly appreciated!

Before I write a complete tutorial for nothing :wink: the question is: do you have FSX or FS9? Or in other words: were you able to create a database for Plan-G?

I do have FS2004 (which I believe is FS9), but I don't have installed it on my actual PC.

@Jeroen:

OK, your question gave me the hint. I installed FS9 and could Plan-G convince to load the data. I even managed to make some sort of a flight plan (so I think). I saved it, but GMap refuses to load it (error: plansfolder not set up).

Yes, I DID set up plansfolder in the fswidgetsgmap.ini-file, still won't work.

I guess I have to ask the people from fswidgets, unless you might know what's wrong :Confused:

Thanks a heap anyway!

Did you add all this to the ini, so including the [Plans]?

[Plans]

plansfolder=<path to flightplanfolder>

That flightplanfolder can be any folder btw: I save my plans in the GMap folder.

Did you put the ini in the same folder as the FSWidgetsGMap.exe?

Did you restart GMap?

Did you save the flightplan as FSX-plan and not the native Plan-G format?'

BTW Yes, installing FS9 or FSX is all you have to do to create the database: you don't even have to patch the programs at all. And you can make a backup of that database so you won't have to install FS9 or FSX again the next time (make a backup of the folder Data in the Plan-G folder: there should be 4 files there). Unfortunately it is now allowed to share those 4 files...

The [Plans] is essential then? Have to try that. All other questions: yes. I do have GMap and its .ini on the desktop, shouldn't be a problem, though. I saved it as FS9-plan (file.pln).

So I can de-install FS9 when thr database is done and saved?

Thanks a lot man, you are a great help!

I think [Plans] is essential, yes.

Yes, when the database is created, you can remove FS9. Just make a backup of the 4 database files for future use.

Glad to be of help, musketeer. :wink:
