July 9, 201213 yr I have a couple of airport scenery add-ons that contain ramplights. Is there a way to turn them off in the daytime but still have them enabled for night usuage? Thanks Slim
July 10, 201213 yr This is strange, Slim. Normally, ramp lights are only on at night, and the creator of the lights make quite certain of that. Do you know what type of lights they are? Are you able to take a look at the effect, if there is one, and determine when it should be on? Best regards. Luis Hot, humid Caribbean paradise!
July 11, 201213 yr Author Hi Luis, Thanks for your interest in my problem. It uses the ESDG RampLightSet.. I have RampLight_Library.bgl in the scenery folder for this addon airport and I have ESDG_ramp.bmp and ESDG_ramp_lm.bmp in my texture folder for this airport. The airport design file is AF2_KVNY.bgl. Please excuse my ignorance in this matter. It is quite possible I have done something wrong in this installation. I am running FSX . The airport addon is installed to addon scenery folder and is at #1 priority and the object libraries it draws from are underneath it. Slim
July 11, 201213 yr Thanks for the information, Slim. The ESDG lights are by Bill Leaming and as I remember should only go on at night. Perhaps there is some mix-up with the textures. Bill is often on this forum (and every other forum I have ever seen :LMAO: ) so I shall leave it to him to answer your question. Best regards. Luis Hot, humid Caribbean paradise!
July 11, 201213 yr Moderator Luis, it's been many, many years (2005) since I made those ramp lights, but to the best of my recollection, they should only be on at night. I did manage to find the assembler files from which I created these, and even though I don't remember the details now, they appear to have been coded correctly for night only operations... Fr. July 11, 201213 yr Author Bill thanks for joining the discussion. What triggers the on/off action of these lights? Is it in the AFCAD?
July 11, 201213 yr Moderator Bill thanks for joining the discussion. What triggers the on/off action of these lights? Is it in the AFCAD? No, on/off is controlled by the code embedded in the .mdl file itself, as well as the _lm extension on the lightmap bitmap. On the other hand, I don't recall ever having tried these lights in FSX myself.... It may well be the case that because of the way FSX changed the lighting algorithim that on/off control no longer works. I made a new type of light for FSX that uses a 3d lighting polygon similar to what the Lotusim L-39 introduced. These new lights are available from FS-Developer: http://www.fsdeveloper.com/forum/downloads.php?do=file&id=91 Fr. July 13, 201213 yr Author I downloaded Bill's new file and substituted it into the scenery and texture folders and, while I liked the look of the lights better at night, it didn't solve the daytime problem. I even renamed his RampLightLibrary.bgl to the original RampLight_Library.bgl nomenclature but that didn't help either. I guess I'll just delete RampLight bgl as a workaround. Thanks Bill and Luis for the suggestions. Slim
July 13, 201213 yr I made a new type of light for FSX that uses a 3d lighting polygon similar to what the Lotusim L-39 introduced. These new lights are available from FS-Developer: http://www.fsdevelop...p?do=file&id=91 I find that these lights illuminate only at dawn and dusk. They do not illuminate at night. George
July 14, 201213 yr Author They do not illuminate at night. On my modest system they do (The updated files) I just can't turn them off in the daytime. YMMV
July 27, 201213 yr May as well try these... http://library.avsim.net/esearch.php?CatID=fs2004sd&DLID=142190 I made them for FS9 but they may work in FSX. Can't hurt to try.
August 25, 201213 yr Try using ModelConverterX to locate the effects embedded in the .mdl. I think you should be able to change the light parameters in there (I have been trying to make headlights for the service vehicles, so that's how I know) Total Distance Flown: 65,141.138 Nautical Miles (In reality-------I don't have THAT much time to waste on FSX).
