RXP GNS530 WAAS shuts down FS9!

Featured Replies

I recently upgraded my Operating System from Windows XP Pro to Win 7 Home Premium and am having the following problem with FS9 shutting down..

In random fashion, anywhere between selecting an aircraft or after a flight begins I get an error message of "Microsoft Flight Simulator is Shutting down".

I removed all addon aircraft with only the MSFS9 default aircraft installed and made a flight with no problems. I then added the Gulfstream V as my only addon third party aircraft and tried a flight. My problem reappeared.

By a process of elimiantion with trial and error, I was able to isolate the problem in the panel to the installation of my Reality XP GNS 530 WAAS, GNS GMAGTX, and Dropstack.

By deleting these line items from my panel.cfg, all problems went away:

"Window13=Reality XP GNS 530 WAAS - RXP_CONFIG_TOOL - DO NOT CHANGE

Window15=Reality XP GNS GMAGTX - RXP_CONFIG_TOOL - DO NOT CHANGE

Window16=Reality XP DropStack

Window13=Reality XP GNS 530 WAAS - RXP_CONFIG_TOOL - DO NOT CHANGE

Window15=Reality XP GNS GMAGTX - RXP_CONFIG_TOOL - DO NOT CHANGE

Window16=Reality XP DropStack"

Just for good measure I also tried editing the window numbers to 13, 14, and 15 but that makes no difference.

Ironically there is no sign of this problem in FSX, only FS9. My RXP GPS works great in FSX.

If anyone has seen this issue and knows a solution your help would be greatly appreciated.

Respectfully:

RTH

Sorry this may be a dumb response but is the GNS 530 WAAS compatible with FS9?

I own the RXP GNS 530, GNS 430 and Pro Pack and have never had the slightest problems running FS9 under XP although these versions will not cope with 64 bit Windows..

Thanks for the reply:

There is hardly any such thing as a dumb response question, but many dumb answers.

Yes, I bought the RXP GNS 530 WAAS as soon as it became available and it worked flawlessly ever since in both FS9 and FSX. I am not sure what your problem was with "64bit Windows- under XP". I was running Windows XP Pro 64bit. The only glitch was that I had to remove the integral units in the DreamFleet Baron 58 RXP and replace it with my free standing purchase in FS9. I also had to do the same thing for the Dreamfleet Dakota in FSX which also came with an integral unit. I never had a problem with the RXP free standing units running under XP 64bit in either FS9 or FSX.

My problem only originated when I upgraded to Win 7 Home Premium 64 bit. I never did get the RXP unit to work either integral or free standing in the Dakota after I upgraded to Win 7. I chose to just ignore it for this one bird as it was the only aircraft with a glitch in FSX. My system sure does not like the units installed anywhere in FS9 though.

I run the RXP 530 in fs9 under win7 x64. It's works fine. I would recommend going to the reality xp site and redownloading the latest version of the 530 waas for FS9.

If I remember I had simular issues when I tried to use a older version of the waas

I am having trouble finding an option for a manual download of the latest upgrade at RXP. Every where I try is linked back to the aurotmatic download and installation provisions which I have already activated and updated. I will keep looking though.

Thanks BigMack:

Are you saying the RXP GNS works ok when installed in the default aircraft. But when you install it in this GV you have crashes? If so, sounds like something in this GV not liking the RXP gauge.

Thanks for the reply R.W.

No, it does not "work ok when installed in the default aircraft". When installed in any single aircraft located in the FS9 Aircraft folder default or third party, it zaps all aircraft, regardless of whether they have it installed in them or not. The crash comes at various times as I mentioned in my original post, anywhere from setup to duiring a flight.

There are a number of comments in the RXP forum regarding this issue as well as with a Google search. The latest version may have helped some, and done nothing for others. Unfortunately, I belong to the latter group.

Thanks for the idea.

thanks folks for bringing me up-to-date. I had not visited their site in years. Seems now that they support FS9 in 64 bit, at a price, however it looks like such support is merely token with many complaining of CTDs even subsequent to the latest release supposedly issued to ameliorate these issues.

Nice to have WAAS but I think I'll stand my ground.

rhodges noticed your similar post over at the SimFlight RXP forum and hope you are able to straighten things out.

Cheers.

There is no update option on the page. You have to click on the purchase link and download the new rxp installer.exe start the installer then you'll see the option to reinstall.

Thanks loads:

I will give this a try tomorrow morning. I sure didn't want to repurchase the same thing I had, but your precedure looks like a solution.

Thanks again.

Not so much "nice to have", but a necessity in Win7 64bit. The old version of the Garmin trainers will not run in a 64bit environment (they are 16 bit programs). So that is why I purchased the newer RXP GNS WAAS.

Dowonloaded a new installation file and reinstalled useing the Flight One Wrapper.

No cigar. I still have the shutdown problem.

Look at your aircraft panel cfg and see if the rxp gauge is using the older gauge or the newer one. The newer one should be rxpGNS the older one is Realityxp_Fl530xp.gau. Make you're using the correct one.

Also do you use FS panel studio? Where you can manually edit your AC panel gauges yourself.

Good morning Mack:

I am afraid my gauge is named "rxpGNS" as you recommended.

My line item entries are as follows:

Window13=Reality XP GNS 530 WAAS - RXP_CONFIG_TOOL - DO NOT CHANGE

Window15=Reality XP GNS GMAGTX - RXP_CONFIG_TOOL - DO NOT CHANGE

Window16=Reality XP DropStack

[Window13]

window_pos=0.375000,0.000000

window_size=0.625000,0.600000

visible=1

ident=15531

zorder=99

gauge00=rxpGNS!GNS530,0,0,100,100

[Window15]

window_pos=0.375000,0.505000

window_size=0.625000,0.495000

visible=0

ident=15327

zorder=99

gauge00=rxpGNS!GMA340,0,0,100,33.670033

gauge01=rxpGNS!GTX327,0,33.670033,100,44.107744

gauge02=Bendix_King_Radio!Bendix-King Radio ADF,0,77.777777,50,22.222222

gauge03=Bendix_King_Radio!Bendix-King Radio AP,50,77.777777,50,22.222222

[Window16]

position=0

window_size=0.100000,0.050000

visible=1

ident=15000

zorder=100

gauge00=rxpDrop!Stack,0,0,100,100"

I compared the text between the panel.cfg in the same aircraft in both FS9 and FSX to see if there was anything strange that showed up there. The only difference in the line items is the position and size.

I do often use "Panel Studio" to edit panel content and position. However in no way have I done this relative to the RXP Gauges. The RXP gauges are installed automatically by the execution file found in the path: "C:\Program Files (x86)\Reality XP\Garmin Simulation\Flight Simulator\GNS WAAS Config 9.exe" for FS9 or: "GNS WAAS Config X.exe" for FSX. FSX has no problem, but FS9 shuts down.

I always install a parallel installation of FS9 and FSX with the update patches on my system for trouble shooting purposes. For example, my backup default installation for FS9 is named "Flight Simulator 9 Default with fs91.upd" and is available. This has saved me a multitude of work in the past. In this case that is the way I isolated the RXP problem. To find if it was an aircraft problem, I renamed my "aircraft" folder in FS9 and copied by default backup of this folder from my parallel installation of FS9. No problem. I then installed the RXP gauges into the FS9 default Baron and again got the shut downs. I removed the RXP gauges from the Baron and tried with them installed in the Boeing 737. Same thing, FS9 shut down.

The hunt goes on:
