July 12, 201213 yr I regularly fly to/from Frankfurt EDDF and find that with all of the traffic the queue for take off from 25R/07L can be excessive when you factor in arriving aircraft. Is there no way you can activate rwy 18 for departures simultaneously to get aircraft out quicker? I don't particularly want to reduce the ai traffic % as I dont want to miss something special turning up! Can the AFCADs not handle aircraft departing from runways in different directions?
July 12, 201213 yr Unfortunately it is not possible. It is a hard limitation. I also fly from EDDF regularly. What I do is I depart a parallel runway, which would be allowed by ATC, eg. 07R instead of overqueued 07C.
July 13, 201213 yr Wouldn't the 7.9-degree runway technique (or whatever its name is) work for cases like this? This, and closing a runway (maybe 07C/25C) for landings might work? Best regards from Colombia, Luis Miguel Yeah that should work - ive done something similar to trick FS9 into using all 4 runways at KJFK. Try googling "afcad star technique" for fs2004/fs9 there are loads of tutorials on it.
July 13, 201213 yr Airport Design Editor or ADE (freeware) makes setting up cross wind runways fairly easy. Check over at FSDeveloper forums and their site in general for related material. ADE for fs9 and fsx available at: http://www.scruffyduck.org.uk/filemanager/navega.php?PHPSESSID=2d2db7d7528512b3516812d170412237&dir=.%2FADE9X%20Current%20Version http://www.fsdeveloper.com There is a very useful PDF tutorial by Jim Vile Whicker. If you can not locate it feel free to PM me and I'll email you a copy. I hope this helps some. Regards, Mel
July 13, 201213 yr the runway configuration of EDDF is tricky, because rwy 18 is "start only" and 07R/25L is "landing only" there is no sufficient way to achieve this behaviour with cross wind runways. rwy 07C/25C is the closest rwy to most gates/parkings and therefore used for take off in fs9. the advantage of three parallel rwys is that nearly all landings go to the "outer" runways because they are closer to the approaching aircrafts from all directions... I believe we have to live with that compromise in fs9 :(
July 13, 201213 yr The star technique is not especially useful for EDDF, because 18 is so far away from parking stands. I'm surprised no one has worked out a hack to set departing and arriving runway assignments over the simple FS9 algorithm. Must be buried deep? Streaming at twitch.tv/brynmwr
July 13, 201213 yr Author That's a shame. I was wondering why there were no AFCADs to allow 18 to be used for departures. And since I'm using Mega Airport Frankfurt which doesnt have the new runway which would be ideal for landings, then unfortunately there is a monumental queue for departures. Whenever I do fly I do tend to load FS and let it run on 4x speed for some time to allow departures and arrivals to sort themselves out a bit. Does FSX have the ability to have all runways working, or is it a family trait?
July 13, 201213 yr Author Unfortunately I'm using an older boxed version (2005) of the scenery, for which aerosoft kindly don't provide updates (grrrr), you have to pay once again to download a newer version of it. Hmmph
July 13, 201213 yr you have to pay once again to download a newer version of it But it is well worth the purchase! Especially if you fly there a lot. What is more, as an owner of the previous version you get a huge discount (10 euro).
July 13, 201213 yr Author Perhaps I can wait until I upgrade my system and invest in Frankfurt X then :-/
