Flying the NGX is just a really fun "game" but...

While some may feel it morbid, I'm kind of a accident investigation "fan". I do *not* mean that I like crashes themselves and I certainly wish they never happened but we all know that's probably impossible no matter how good we get with our technology and procedures. Crash investigation really is a big part of what makes aviation safer - figuring out where things went wrong is crucial. I really admire the people who piece this stuff together at the US NTSB and similar organizations around the world.

I know several real world pilots who always read up on crashes and watch stuff on them because if you're aware of how things have gone wrong in the past you might recognize a problem before it gets beyond solving (ie the Swissair or UPS onboard fires) or be able to recognize the possible mistakes you could make as a pilot yourself (ie Air France 447 or AeroPeru 603). There's also some downright heroic stories out there too - if you haven't heard the story before, read about United 232, the DC-10 that was very nearly landed successfully after a total loss of normal flight control.

I read NTSB accident reports for aircraft that I fly (I pretty much only fly smaller planes) and I try to stay current on trends. Doing so, I have learned some things about how to augment checklists with flows and that has given me habits that have greatly reduced some mistakes I made in the past. For example, I read on a RW forum on the Lancair Legacy that you should visually sweep back to front on the center console forward and then right to left in front of the pilot from the flaps to the left side. It also works well on the J41, C182 and others. Flows like that are fast so you can do them just before taking the runway and again at line up.

Pretty close to the flows procedures that should be accomplished on the NG, if I am understanding you correctly.
