Upgrades from FS9 version?

Featured Replies

I don't hold out much hope for this - but here goes...

I have the FS9 (FS2004) versions of the PMDG B737 NG ( download files are: PMDG_737_THE_NEXT_GENERATION.ZIP, for 737-600/700, and PMDG_737_Next_Gen_800_900.zip) and I was wondering if - even hoping that - PMDG had made available upgrades to convert these FS9 sims to the FSX format.

Don't all laugh - it's worth a try!

Impossible.

They maybe can port old NG to FSX, but why would they do it when NGX is 100x better than old NG?

The FS9 737-700 is compatible with FSX after some tweaks.

In other words what you are saying is: Don't even bother to try using the old FS9 737 in FSX!

So my next question is: Does PMDG give a reduced price for people who already own the FS9 versions of their aircraft?

Not that I know of. You'll probably just have to buy it again ;)

No, why would they? It is a different aircraft. A complete rebuild if you like.

OK, I get the message. But many outfits do have a special price for returning customers - it's called promoting customer loyalty. A reward for sticking with the company.

Long before the NGX, we hadn't a decent NG for FSX, so you either had to adapt, or keep using FS9. So, one day I sat in front of my oc, and started fooling around with porting some of my favorite planes to FSX. I was able to get the FS9 NG and the F1 727, which kept me happy until I had better options available.

In one word, yes, you can do it. Will it be 100% functional? No. But it will do.

Today, with the NGX available, I wouldn't even consider porting the FS9 version to FSX. Not even if it was 100% functional.

Just buy the NGX, and then have the finest FSX aircraft of all time.

Right Jon, you've convinced me! I was just exploring the options, in case there was a way to get a few bucks off...

Thanks!

iirc, PMDG said that none of the original NG code was used in the NGX. Since it's an entirely new product from the ground up, it has a new pricetag.

2 things

1) We all want to save some money. So fair comment

2) At this price that the NGX is selling for this is more then a bargain. I have never seen such a fantastic software ever to be sold for such a low price.

So go out and get it.

Thx Ian
