Australian International Airshow - 26 February to 3 March, 2013

Featured Replies

Robert, today I booked my airline ticket to attend the Australian International Airshow to be held in Melbourne, Australia from 26 February to 3 March, 2013. I was just wondering if there is any chance that you or any of the PMDG team may be able to take time out of your hectic schedules to be there either in an official capacity (with a PMDG display booth) or as just another aviation buff taking in the sights, smells and sounds? Either way, it'd be fantastic for us Aussies (especially me!!!) to meet you and the PMDG team (if any can come), as Europe and the US is a long way for us to go to see you at a convention or other gathering. Any chance I could entice you downunder for a few days or so? Would be great if a group of us Aussies could hang out with you to check out the airshow. I've been to the last two airshows there and they're fantastic, with a diverse range of aircraft both on static display and performing flying displays. Last time I was there, Qantas flew in their new A380. The USAF also organised for a B-52 to do a flying display coming down from Darwin where it was participating in exercises. Unfortunately it was unable to land due to its size.

Link to the airshow website included below. Would love to hear from you...

Just feels like yesterday I was at the last Airshow. Was as amazing as always. Allows you to really feel the power in those machines. Especially when a B-1 bomber rotates at full power right in front of you, barely 100m away. !!!!.

Last year was really special. as I got to go and sit on the captains seat of a USAF C-17 which was a real treat, and the year before touched both the front nose wheel of VAustralias Brand new 777-300ER, which hadn't even entered service. And one of the engine cowlings of Qantas's first A380, Which I found out later to be the exact engine to blow up when departing Singapore in 2010 :S

Would be great if PMDG could attend, Im sure they would be very busy. I remember at last years airshow Orbx had a very very busy stand, Which I am sure introduced many more people to Flightsim and The addon market.

It would be awesome if we could have PMDG down here, quite a few simming booths but its just not complete without PMDG there.

I was there when the 787 visited YMML in May or so and was able to sit in the Captains seat, touch the whole carbon fibre exterior, see the whole landing gear, look through the engine, speak to engineers, great day. On par with the air show.

I'm flying down and back from Sydney on the Saturday, so would be happy to meet you guys if you like.

Ah, the Avalon Airshow... I went to the very first, got a guided tour of the A340 prototype, the C5 Galaxy, the AN124 before it got grounded for flying at less that 150ft above the aerodrome, and the coup for me was a whole tour of the IL76, complete with a test flight a few days later, as i got to befriend the crew... They were staying in the same hotel as me!

Will try my hardest to make the next one.

Was driving home from Melbourne today and I saw the 2013 Airshow sign for the first time. Already know I'll be going!

Hi Gents,

I was lucky enough to attend last year's airshow and thoroughly enjoyed it, enough that I have already booked (I live in Perth) to go next year. I'd be very keen to catch up with any fellow flight simmers over a beer or two during the event.

My highlights from last year was the Super Hornet, I was about 50m from it as it rotated on the Friday night and the Super Connie as it took off in the darkness. My one regret of the trip was going to make a phone call to the old ball and chain and missing the B-1B take off on the Friday night as on the Sunday it departed from the south, so I am hoping to see it again next year.

On a side note, I spoke to a woman promoting the event at the Pearce Airshow in May and she said they were hoping to have a handling display of the Raptor next year (the big disappointment of last year) and perhaps a F-35, though she said this was a big maybe. I'm also wanting to see the new Singaporean F-15S do a syncro display with the F-16 like some of the youtube videos that are around.

One other thing, can anyone confirm a rumour I've heard about the Russian Su-27 doing a high speed flyby at 15 - 20 feet above the runway in the late 90's? That is something I'd like to see if true!

Cheers,

Greg Johnstone
