I have always thought that at least half the "flight model" is in the controller. Having used the Ch setup since the beginning-I'd like to see further improvements-mostly in feel. I'd like to see some type of force feedback added that doesn't do the gamelike functions of today-but instead simulates the different control forces at different phases of flight ,airspeeds, and different makes and models of aircraft.I do agree though , it is the best out there now at a reasonable price. I am looking forward to the new Ch multi engine controller due out any day.http://mywebpages.comcast.net/geofa/pages/rxp-pilot.jpg

WANTED DEAD OR ALIVE-the best Flight Sim!

I've been flight simming with a twist joystick for as long as I can remember and I felt like I was really good.....Until about two months ago when I changed to the CH rudder pedals and yoke. Holy cow, talk about learning to fly all over again. I immediately got the answer to the fantasy question, "if an emergency arose in the cockpit could someone with flight simulator experience land the plane?"Not if they've been using a twist joystick!

>Not if they've been using a twist joystick!Correct! Forget a twist grip. I use pedals & a joystick with my desktop. And a joystick with a twist grip for the laptop. The difference in handleing and the perception of "feel" is very great! And example is the roll down the runway, and climb with a single engine airplane. It can be very much like the real thing with pedals, but fails with a twist, rocker switch or keyboard.L.Adamson

The only reason I would use my Sidewinder 3Dpro joystick (and that's with peddles) is if I'm flying planes like the Piper Cub, Jenny, Legacy 2000, Super Decathlon, or the SIAI Marchetti SF-260. Since the CH controllers do such a great job with the representing what one would actually get in the real plane, why would I use a joystick on a plane that operates with a yoke??? I can stay familiar with the planes I fly without having to actually go up and pay for the time in the real aircraft. No FS is not a substitute but it sure comes close which is impressive for a PC title...

If you have a yoke, then I see no reason to use a joystick for a "yoked" airplane. To me, it doesn't matter much what I use.But now I have the bigger problem! :)I prefer to flightsim with my righthanded joystick & seperate left hand throttle (Saitek X-45).But my nearly completed RV6A is left handed stick, & Cessna vernier (push/pull knob )type throttle, prop, mixture for the right hand. What's more, I always prefered Piper throttle quadrants such as with the CH yoke, rather than Cessna knobs.OH NO!!!!!! Such confusion!!!!! :)L.Adamson

I have been using the joystick for some time now and should really upgrade to the yoke. The question I have is with regard to the pedals. I heard from a RW pilot that the pedals are too loose and your feet move all over the place....nothing like the real thing. Any comments on this aspect ?Mark.

But NOT having pedals is certainly "unlike" the real thing.L.Adamson

I'm RW also, and I sim with a set of Elites. I also have a set of RCS pedals, and I've flown the CH pedals. I've not had any problems with any of them. And I can't imagine simming without rudder pedals.Now... yoke or stick? I prefer a stick because most of my RW time is with a stick. What I really need is a side stick like what I fly in the Long-EZE. I guess I could ask my wife to hold my Cougar sideways while I sim... naw, nevermind. :-) Greg

Mark, no matter what control you use, real aircraft controls are going to always give you something different in real life. Different planes of the same model are going to give you something different as well. I'm sure a Cessna's rudder feels different than a CRJ and both feel different that what you'll get with the CH Peddles. That's not the point, anything that can help you get past turning a plane on the ground with the yoke instead of using your feet is going to help. At the end of the day you have to learn the forward and back movement required to turn the plane on the ground. It may sound simple but I can tell you it sucks in real life to be on your landing roll and forget the yoke is not going to help you on the ground. I've seen students almost go in the grass off the side of the runway, had it not been for their instructor

I have the CH USB yoke and pedals, and am waiting for delivery on the new throttle quadrant. Great for twins, but what to do with my FFS Van's RV7? I actually enjoy flying her with the CH yoke in the vc, wonderful clear view of the instruments. I have a Cyborg Gold joystick, which worked well with the CH pedals. But the slider just did not cut it for me, and lack of prop and mixture was the killer. I'm sure it's been discussed before, but a nice Cessna style throttle, prop, and mixture console would really be the cat's pajamas in my book.Too bad the CH Pro Throttle USB's handle could not be switched around, ala the Cyborg Gold joystick. In lieu of a vernier knob console, I think I would be happy with the Cyborg Gold switched to my left hand, and the Pro Throttle grip in my right, kind of a reverse "HOTAS".I wonder if that could be possible in your RW RV6A ?CheersJay

Others put throttle, mixture, and prop on the left side wall, while some just put an extra throttle there. But I just finally said screw it, and went with the center mounted veniers after once dealing with a Piper throttle quadrant & cables getting in the way of my "knee" room. The push/pull verniers are simpler to install & allow more elbow & knee room which is at at premium. But just sitting in the plane with my left arm on the armrest & stick feels quite comfortable & natural. And everyone seems to adapt quite quickly.L.Adamson
