July 25, 201213 yr Microsoft issued this blog : Hardware accelerating everything: Windows 8 graphics http://blogs.msdn.com/b/b8/archive/2012/07/23/hardware-accelerating-everything-windows-8-graphics.aspx do you think that it will have a positive impact on FSX?, or nothing will change? Can somebody please (testing Windows8 RP) confirm this for us?, or is it something related to final release? Ali A. July 25, 201213 yr Commercial Member My "butt dyno" (a car modder term to mean "testing by the seat of your pants," or reporting of perceived differences) here at work is that Win 8 has a slight jump in performance, graphically. I wouldn't expect it to solve all of the problems in FSX, though. I believe those are issues embedded in the program (FSX), not the OS. Kyle Rodgers

July 25, 201213 yr Commercial Member A word of warning on Windows 8.. There isn't a computer in here that we haven't messed with to tweak out better performance and I haven't seen any issues. That report makes no actual connection between Win 8 and tweaks. Rather, the main point of the article is about the likelihood of crashes after a first crash, making no connections between the OS and the failures. The only stated connection is between overclocking and crashes. What the author is saying is that the new OS is using a redesigned BSOD. It seems that the article is misunderstood. Win8 doesn't cause more crashes, it has a redesigned blue screen. If you overclock, you will see this "improved" BSOD more, statistically. No comparison is made between Win7 and Win8. Kyle Rodgers
July 25, 201213 yr Directx updates won't do a thing for performance of existing applications like FSX, applications have to be written for a specific version of DirectX and unless they get a patch/update to take advantage of the new version of DirectX, they won't. Also, the Win8 performance enhancements in question are for the Metro UI, "2d" apps, they're not even for "3d" applications (note: not talking about stereoscopic 3d here, just 3d in the traditional PC game sense that objects are rendered in X, Y, and Z axis).
July 26, 201213 yr I don't plan on getting it, most things I run only just run good in win7. - Luke Pabari
July 26, 201213 yr My Q6600 clocked to 3.2 hasn't BSODed yet in Win8 RP. Mainly using it for video rendering using DirectShow rendering. No doubt Win8 has work done for HTML5 as a replacement for flash/silverlight but none of that (or gdi replacements) seem to have any relavence to FSX. Maybe something in windowed mode but even there I doubt it. scott s. .
July 27, 201213 yr .....existing applications like FSX, applications have to be written for a specific version of DirectX and unless they get a patch/update to take advantage of the new version of DirectX, they won't. Off topic, but just out of curiosity, would it really be that difficult for Microsoft to develop this? Is it possible for a 3rd party to do? July 27, 201213 yr Off topic, but just out of curiosity, would it really be that difficult for Microsoft to develop this? Is it possible for a 3rd party to do? In the case of flight sim it would require a re-write of the graphics engine like what we saw with Flight. Quite an undertaking.
