Bufferpools help

Featured Replies

I'm asking in the PMDG board because PMDG staff and users are knowledgeable in this area.

I have my FSX.cfg tweaked/tuned and it's working pretty well. Unfortunately, the infamous sound crackling is now happening for whatever reason. Since a higher bufferpool is know to hope, I was hoping for some advice on what to use for this.

My graphics card is a 2gb Galaxy GTX 670.

My current bufferpools section:

[bufferPools]

RejectThreshold=131072

Any ideas?

Have you tried BufferPools=0 ?

Or UsePools=0 ?

Works great on my GTX580. Make sure you don't go too mad with FSX settings though. I have my autogen down to a bit. You may get artifacts with FSX settings too high for BP=0

I think the correct entry is UsePools=0 or PoolSize=0 :wink:

Off-Topic! In the MS FSX forum you would have gotten the same answers within an hour!

And indeed, correct settings are:

[bUFFERPOOLS']

PoolSize=0

But also:

[bUFFERPOOLS]

UsePools=0

Both are doing the same thing. However I did have some problems with the UsePools=0 in the past, API.DLL crashes. I was using a different video card and HDD at that time so it might be caused by that. But with PoolSize=0 I have never had any problems so that's the setting I recommend. I am not using RejectThreshold at all, as I don't see what exactly it does, it does nothing for me. And if you disable bufferpools by setting PoolSize=0, then the RejectThreshold tweak won't work anyway.

Hi Arjen, as I understand it, while the PoolSize=0 bypasses the buffer and sends all the available data directly to the GPU, the RejectThreshold value limits the amount of data which is determined by the value given to the reject threshold

Are you using any Affinity Mask Tweek in the CFG? If I dont use

[JOBSCHEDULER]

AffinityMask=14

I get lots of sound crackling. With the tweek in no crackling at all.

Ok just read the above post and checked my fsx.cfg, trying to see what my settings are and there is no such entry in my fsx cfg. Is it suppose to be in there or are you suppose to add it in what section? Having no issues with fsx at all just wondering if should add this tweak or not

There is no [bufferpools] section in the cfg by default. So simply add it anywhere in the cfg file.
