August 9, 201213 yr I have limited knowledge on computer parts and upgrades, but have been doing alot of research there is such a varity of opinion's on what is the best system for not only fsx but also a day to day pc that will last for several years before needing to be updated again. I haven't ordered the system yet but would like your comments about the system below, this system is going to cost around $4700 I just want somthing that will be trouble free and be able to run smooth and fast (like we all want really) Im sick of my current system pausing going blurry and having poor FPS. this is my proposed system, can you see any problems with any of the parts ? can you see anything that may cause a botttleneck and do you think this system will run FSX at max settings, or anthing good or bad you can see. August 9, 201213 yr Do you have money to burn? if the answer is yes, gold plate that thing and you're good to go. But in all seriousness, that's a massive waste of money in just about every aspect: IN TEL CORE i7 3960X EXTREME SANDY BRIDGE-E 3.3GHz 15MB RETAIL BOX - NO FAN If you really want a 6 core prcessor, the 3930K is almost the same chip and much cheaper. Mind you 2 extra cores are not going to help in FSX and definitely not futureproofing at all. For other stuff not FSX related, well it depends what your "day to day" tasks are CORSAIR COOLING HYDRO H100 CPU COOLER ASUS P9X79 DESKTOP MOTHERBOARD G.SKILL 16GB KIT (2x8GB) ARES C10 1866MHz If you're going to get 16GB of RAM, get 4x4GB of 2133MHz.. or better, simply 2x4GB of 2133MHz for a total of 8GB. Cheaper faster and won't tamper with your OC as much as those 8GB sticks SAMSUNG 830 SERIES 512GB 2.5" SSD SATA3 520/400 Do you really need 512GB? August 9, 201213 yr IN TEL CORE i7 3960X EXTREME SANDY BRIDGE-E 3.3GHz 15MB RETAIL BOX - NO FAN I'd recommend the 3930K instead...
August 9, 201213 yr I'd recommend what I have, since it's about as fast as you can get and the CPU costs only 29% of what you chose, yet performs better in FSX. Total cost is about the same but includes monitors and flight controls, and still has the 512GB SSD + plenty of additional storage (3TB).
August 10, 201213 yr Author Thankyou all very much for taking the effort to reply, TechGuyC where did you get that system made up, and would that also be suitable to do some video editing on. I cant seem to find a pc builder in Australia with those same parts. could you please provided me with the details of your pc so I can give it to a PC shop to look at building a system close to yours. Like I said my knowledge in computers is limited so I have to go on advice from others and your happy with the performace of your system. also if you rebuilt a pc today would you use those same parts or would you change or upgrade any parts. (or is it new) Thanks again Jason
August 10, 201213 yr i would recommend the i7 2700k its definately the best chip ive found for overclocking got mine at 5ghz with 1.36vcore and its alot cheaper than the 3960x and the 3930k and performs just as well in fsx. Alexander Shepherd
August 10, 201213 yr IF video editing is something you do in addition to FSX.. there is no iffs or butts about it.. Ivy Bridge is the way to go. Here are the metrics http://www.anandtech...-3770k-review/6 the only thing is, for serious video editing you may want to check out workstations. They also may need more stable memory but with lower clock speed. They may also require special video cards rather than the gaming ones. But for casual video editing, the FSX /gaming PC may just do. August 10, 201213 yr I cant seem to find a pc builder in Australia with those same parts. Where abouts on Oz are you?? Im in Perth and Netplus or PLE computers have all of Max's parts (google it) Im looking at putting together a 3930K 680GTX Solid state drive, storage drives 750watt psu etc etc all built for $2400 Cheers Josh Cliff
August 11, 201213 yr Author thanks VH_JLC, I have been looking at PLE, im either going to go with them or GR-TEK both companys seem pretty good. I live in Karratha so will have to get it delivered up here. after reading more I am now looking at the below system, it was the one also recommend by GR-TEK. do you belive this one may be better suited for fsx and video editing Case Level 10 GTS Tower Power Supply OCZ/Silverstone SLI 1000W Monitor: 3 x LG 27"LED E2711T-BN Motherboard: ASRock(Asus) Z77 Extreme 4 CPU: Ivy Bridge Intel Core I7 3770K 3.5GHz Overclocked to 4.4GHz Graphics Card: nVidia Geforce GTX 680 PCI-3 2Gb Cooling Corsair H80 Water Cooling Hard Disk: Intel SSD 480GB 520 Series 2nd HD: 2x1 Terrabyte Seagate Sata3 HDD RAM: 8Gb 16000Mhz DDR3 G.Skill Operating system: Windows 7 Pro 64Bit Thanks Jason
August 11, 201213 yr You could do with a lesser PSU and save some money.. somethin like 800Watt rather than 1000 watt But then you can apply that towards a faster memory. instead of the 1600, how about 2400. Other than that you have a winner.... As of today. (I have to put that caveat there). LOL :) Manny Beta tester for SIMStarter
