2001? Wow, I didn't know it was somehow current. I recall a large setup of scientist including Carl Sagan to lead some former projects or proposals on them way before that date, so lets see.

It's always a bit touchy since you end up very quickly in the 'being nuts' corner, and that's just form stating 'I don't know what it is, I can't explain it with our current knowledge, so I will call it unidentified'. And this I don't know yet state is actually a very common one in science.

Absolutely CoolP, it is a UFO, which of course stands for exactly what it is... an unidentified flying object. However, I could tell a story of how I saw three objects in the sky 38 years ago, which I will never forget until the day I die, but I won't 'cos as you said it opens you up for ridicule...
