August 27, 201213 yr I was going to post this the day Neil passed away but got side tracked packing for the Florida move. I was going through some of my Dad's stuff, and found a signed personalized photograph to my Dad from Neil. My Dad was a speaker as well as Neil at a Motorola Convention in 1973. The photo is of Neil in a suit with the flag behind him. Neil said on the photo "Norm, It was a pleasure meeting with you at the 1973 convention, Best of Luck! Neil Armstrong" I was blown away with this, and to top it off I found it on the day Neil passed. Wow. I will give you 3 guesses where I am going to hang it? Regards Bob Officially retired
August 27, 201213 yr Neat story. Kind of interesting. Maybe it's just me but from when I was growing up until now I've always had a few celebrities out there(not just Hollywood, I would consider Neil a celebrity because of what he did) that I kind of wondered where will I be and how old will I be when that person passes away. Neil was one of the few on my list so to speak. It wasn't that much of a surprise given his age and his recent health issues/procedures, but still interesting that one of the few people I picked to be on "that list" was him especially considering I was unfortunately not around when he landed on the moon and wouldn't be for another 12 years.

Yea, I had seen a number of interviews with Neil and he was a very humble individual. I really admired him. Well you were not around for 12 years when he landed on the moon. I was 6 months into the Navy at the time and floating around the Gulf of Tonkin not far from Hanoi. I remember the celebration on the ship. It was amazing. Thanks for chiming in. August 27, 201213 yr Wow...I heard today that Neil stoped to give autgraphs, because he found out, that people made money with them by selling. I always liked his modest attitude. RIP

RIP Yep, that's what I heard too. This was signed 4 years after the eagle landed. Not sure when he stopped doing autographs. Bob Officially retired
August 27, 201213 yr Moderator Yep, that's what I heard too. This was signed 4 years after the eagle landed. Not sure when he stopped doing autographs. Bob It's also a sign of the times... you look at the photo the same way your dad probably did; a personal memento from an American Hero. You and he would never have entertained the notion of selling the photo simply for the autograph, like so many are inclined to do today. Humble, professional, courteous, dedicated; that sums up Neil Armstrong. People like him are hard to come by... that's why they are missed so much when they "Head West".

Save that for sure! What is really kind of sad for me is how many of these men have passed away of various causes -- most simple old age. These astronauts at the time of their walks on the moon were in the middle thirties, so since it has been about four decades since, it should not really surprise anyone but looking at the list of the dozen men who walked on the moon, it did surprise me.
