  1. What I mean is what are the different codes you can use to "write over" what the route has... Above you say 220B/FL80A I'm talking about the B and A here. What are all the codes and what do they all do when planning your route. In other words, how can I tell the FMC to make sure I'm flying at or below 220kts past a waypoint and beyond? Is it just A and B? A = speed or altitude and above and b - speed and altitude or below? I was never able to find this info... And seing you write B and A it just clicked that it might stand for above and below but I didn't know this. Is that correct?
  2. LOL... I couldn't believe that. First time I ever had a failure in FS... I know you can simulate them but I've never actually tried before and I certainly wasn't trying this time either. Scared the poop out of me cause I'm looking through all the settings trying to find what I might have turned off that might not be allowing the ap to work.
  3. Thanks so far to both of you. Tom, you lost me there when you said FMA.. and ND? Should know the short forms but I'm blanking on both. Also for 3... In the tutorial they said to append something like A or B or something like that to the speeds or altitudes(for example to make sure it's at or above that altitude)... How do you recode those in the route? Is there a place in the manual that covers everything in the FMC including those codes that you can append?
  4. Just wondering if it's possible that you had an autopilot failure. I had that happen on only my 5th or 6th flight in the bird. My first autopilot stopped working when I stepped away for a few minutes. Came back to an aircraft that was diving and climbing LOL. I tried turning it on and it just wouldn't. Finally tried the second autopilot and it turned on and took over. Then I started looking at everything, the FMC, MCP and nothing. Just couldn't figure out why it wouldn't engage. Finally went into the PMDG options under the aircraft and failures and found out that one decided to stop working. Surprised me too because I hadn't enabled failures. It was just automatically enabled to happen randomly at any time and I didn't luck out on that one.
  5. Thanks for all the answers by the way. Appreciative.
  6. Hi there, I had originally posted 100 questions topic because I was very lost. Starting to get the hang of this beast but I do have a few more quick questions. 1. Procedure with RNAV and no ILS... When you're about to land you disconnect the Autopilot obviously, how about the throttle. Is the correct procedure to turn it off or is there a way to set 5 above reference speed during the RNAV approach? Just wondering because when I've tried it a few times previously to use the Autothrottle all the simulation does is speed up the engines to keep me from landing. I assume I should be disconnecting it. 2. I have found at least on 3 or 4 occasions that my flight won't allow me to meet what the FMC needs in terms of a descent. I know about the speedbrake and drag thing but why is it the FMC automatically programs impossible vertical routes.. also why is it that if you're say 40 miles away of a point or even 80 it won't desend quicker to make the marked altitudes. It's like sometimes the FMC will descend at 800 ft/m instead of doing more to get down quicker and then later in the same stage it will go to 1600ft/m... Kinda strange, am I missing something? 3. Speaking of the FMC. I remember in the tutorial you can add codes to speed restrictions and altitude restrictions. Where is there information on the different ones in the manuals? I'm having a hard time finding answers in these massive books of information. 4. Finally... For the first time in a long time I ditched a plane(yes in this case the 737ngx) into the water as I overdrove my landing at TNCM. Short runway I know but it leads me to 2 questions, is there a trick to shorter runways? Just more flaps/max speedbrake obviously and max autobrake? And for the takeoff, where can I find in the manual information on getting the max out of the engines. Tried taking off from TNCM twice. The first time wasn't pretty, I think I ripped off the back landing gear on the airport fence because it wouldn't go up with the rest of the gear. I didn't know about the whole derate not giving me enough kick to get up in time there and I was fully loaded practically with a long trip to Tulsa and a pretty heavy load as well. Is it just leaving derate off that will get me maxed out on power or is there a way to force more power out of the 737 because I joined a VA that has my hub at TNCM so I figured I'd better learn to takeoff and land on shorter runways.
  7. Jim, I picked up Addon Converter X as well. Great addon but one thing I ran into and was curious if you had was a couple aircrafts are now showing the textures as they should but they're also semi transparent. I can see right through a Dash 8 I have for Air Canada/Jazz Air and it's transluscent. Any of that over there?
  8. Pretty new to the idea of flying a complex airliner. I mean I've done the default airliners and stuff but when it comes to all these new operations and the FMC I'm a little confused. If anyone can help with some of these questions: 1. MINS with Radio and Baro... I just don't understand where I get the numbers and what it does. 2. Altitude on the MCP... So let's say I was flying online or with ATC... They say cleared to 6000. I set 6000 but then when I get there they say cleared to 15000 I set 15000 in and I have to press this alt Int or whatever that button is? Why is that? Also I tried setting a descent to 3000 yesterday after setting it to 15,000 but because I didn't get down to 15,000 before changing it to 3,000 is that the reason I didn't have to hit the alt int button? 3. FMC... Is there a procedure checklist like the ones you get off the net that runs me through programming the FMC without missing a beat? I know there are the tutorials and I've actually been able to program the FMC on my own with a little help from a checklist that had a few things listed but I'm sure I'm missing a few things. Also in the tutorial it says to set the one item(i think it was under N1 but don't quote me to 45 degrees... where does that come from? Is that 45 degrees fereinheit outside on the ground?) 4. FMC if I want to fly online or I fly with default atc on FSX what happens when they send me off course from what I setup in the FMC. I don't think I've ever had someone on VATSIM direct me to use the whole STAR or SID. They always have me change from the original STAR or SID halfway through or not use a transition on a STAR to get into the ILS. And how about when a STAR says Vectors. How do you input the vector? do you just go to the "Manual Autopilot" like in the default aircrafts where you input heading and use it instead of the LNAV and VNAV modes? 5.Just about done with questions right now... 6. Once ou start using the loc and the app for the approach, does that mean the FMC is no longer in control and it's actually autolanding because I've chosen CMD A and B? In other words if I get deviated from my flight plan because of atc, does that mean I can still autoland if I want or do the changes need to be somehow inputed into the FMC directly? 7. Also, if I get asked to go direct a fix. do I just enter it into my FMC under Legs and then click on 1L to make it the current one and execute? I know lots of questions but I'm having a heck of a time wrapping my head around it. Bonus questions from yesterday's flight: Tried a flight on my own without the tutorial yesterday from Edmonton to Vancouver and I found that I couldn't enable the LNAV and VNAV until I was in the air. I guess because of the over 5 degree change on takeoff to my first waypoint. I also got confused on landing. For some reason I was landing on 26R and I was coming in at least 3 or 4 degrees off the runway centerline and with no idea why. I had set it in the CRS on both sides and I got my degrees from the FMS. Just installed AIRAC, could that be why? The change to the magnetic north or changes to the Vancouver Airport since FSX came out? Any idea? Thanks so much, Signed Long time simmer but not a whole lot of experienced in NGX
  9. Neat story. Kind of interesting. Maybe it's just me but from when I was growing up until now I've always had a few celebrities out there(not just Hollywood, I would consider Neil a celebrity because of what he did) that I kind of wondered where will I be and how old will I be when that person passes away. Neil was one of the few on my list so to speak. It wasn't that much of a surprise given his age and his recent health issues/procedures, but still interesting that one of the few people I picked to be on "that list" was him especially considering I was unfortunately not around when he landed on the moon and wouldn't be for another 12 years.
  10. Hi there, I'd like to take my simulation to the next level in FSX. Other than the Boeing 737ngx are there any other payware out there that simulate aircraft pretty accurately with an FMS and all? I know there's a few 320 projects out there, but I take it there's nothing quite up to par yet that's actually out that is pretty accurately modelled in the 320 line? Also CRJ, Dash 8, Embraer 175, 190? Anything else?
  11. I've been searching the forums but I'm obviously not that good at it. Can you or can you not fix some/most fs9 aircrafts using something like Photoshop for DX10 Preview to render them properly? I know there's addon converter but if I can do it myself, I would rather. Also, every time I searched all I saw where people complaining about dx10 preview and their advice was turn it off. I like it and it gives me a big boost in fps so I'm not looking to turn it off. I'll even continue to fly in DX10 Preview without the textures if I have to but I'd rather not. Someone please point me in the right direction if you can.
  12. Hi there, Tried your installer version from your blog. Don't know if it made any difference in terms of performance but it sure got rid of the issues with the flickering, etc... I did see bridges from high up flickering over rivers and such but I would expect that it's not possible to fix something like that? Anyways, I digress to my 2 important questions. I read most of the posts but I got a little loss throughout the 12 pages. 1. Can REX be installed overtop without issues caused by your fixes? 2. Does anyone have an explanation of how to use the NVidia Inspector and what steps to take as well as settings that should be put in there along with the settings I should set within FSX? Right now in FSX I have Antiscopic(or whatever it is) and Anti-Aliasing set. I also turned of DX10 Preview obviously. Thanks.
  13. It has to be my do all computer unfortunately. I do have my old laptop which is why I haven't played FS in 2 years. I tried to play for a year with it but it was pretty bad on there. The laptop seemed to be going on the bum with some of my photos dissappearing but now I'm starting to think the photos were dissappearing because of the software I used being buggy and not the hard drive going because no other issues have risen. So my laptop could still be used on the go but the desktop would be for video editing/photo editing and flight sim/trainz mostly. Thinking I might want to go for the desktop after all and try to hope that my laptop which is now 3 years old will continue to work for another year or two.
  14. It just started working like it's suppose to and switch once I've put the settings to do that in the NVidia control panel. It just didn't work with the old drivers. I'm kind of thinking of going back and returning it though after running into this issue. If it's giving me this buggy issue now, will it happen again is my thought process. Also what else might it act up on in the future. I might return it and get a desktop with the 630 graphics card. The card isn't quite as powerful as the 630M according to the ratings but it can always be upgraded for next to nothing. And the computer i'm looking at has a bigger i7 at 3.4ghz versus 2.3ghz on mine. And 16gb versus 8gb. See the two and let me know what you think? 15. That was tried but no luck either. So I went on the search for drivers. Toshiba has nothing yet for my laptop(it's a very new laptop). NVidia has no updates for my video card under the certified released drivers so I went into the beta drivers and tried one that fit my laptop's Nvidia chip and it has fixed the problem. I'm hoping for good but who knows. I'm going to keep an eye on it that's for sure. I was about to bring the laptop back under the 14 day return policy and get a desktop but I may not now. By the way, under the same conditions I went from about 36 to 38 fps at O-Hare to 48fps even hitting 50 at times.
