Alabeo Waco YMF-5 released!

Featured Replies

And it looks good! For those who don't know: Alabeo is a sister company of Carenado.

I bought it simply because I lust for the genuine article! At $20, it's a good buy, but only because it looks stunning. It does a proper slip, but not a proper spin. In keeping with reality, Alabeo should also offer it with a constant-speed prop and higner-end avionics.

Can someone vouch for this pedlar? Gorgeous looking plane but I've never purchased from the pedlar in question.

I purchased the Waco a couple of days ago and it went perfectly fine. I like it a lot and it's well done in every repect. If you know Carenado, who have a longstanding reputation of providing well done aircraft, you know Alabeo. The website frontend and the transaction procedeeings are virtually identical to those from Carenado. They work quick and hasslefree.

It's a 16 250 USD option, 19 172 USD with a nice polished spinner. Could you really afford it anyway?

So maybe Alabeo could offier it for an extra $1.95?

But... that's why we love flightsimming! Can you afford even 1% of the aircraft you fly in flightsim?

I must say this model does look beautiful.

1%, I would but then again I dont fly liners

It looks nice indeed, hard on frame rate.?

To set the record straight, I posted above that the model wouldn't do a proper spin. Bernt Stolle contacted me to tell me that if trimmed full nose up, the model will properly spin; I can vouch that he is correct! My thanks to him not only for this, but for his many contributions to the hobby.

Does anyone use it with DX10 (plus Steve Parsons' amazing shaders patch) ?...

I do and all's well but for the radio textures when the cockpit/instruments lighting is turned on. ( Typical light blue image before textures have loaded, except this time it stays that way.... )

Anyone else seeing this ?...

@ Dominique : at parking lot default C172 VC : average 50/60 fps. External 70/80 fps. Change to Waco, VC : average 50 fps. External 60/70 fps. Not bad at all. Absolutely beautiful, really. B)

Thank you Jan, got it and it is indeed rather light on frame rate. I get a solid 24 at OrbX YMUI with lots of dense autogen, two layers of clouds, wind and rain.

This is a nice model. The strobe beacon bleeds through the wing but not a big deal. I don't see a rudder trim animation while rudder can be trimmed  . The whiskey compasss is barely readable.

For the flight model, I'm no expert. I was a little surprised to have to input so little rudder at takeoff to keep the plane straigth on line but then again it looks rather weakly powered I cannot get much more than 500 f/m in clmbing at 70 mph. Maybe me ? Isn't it supposed to be an aerobatic bird ?

My biggest woe is there's no documentation. Please guys, make us pay few bucks more and give us some infos on how to t handle it I blew up the engine at startup without understanding why :P !

As a complement/edit

I can have it climb at about 1000 f/s at 50% fuel (should've thougth) and reducing the pilot weigh at my 165 pounds ! On the other hand, quite quick to turn. Not difficult to handle, a forgiving plane except if you're way behind the curve. Still have to find the sweet spot tor final ... The FDE feels good.

About the bleeding not sure maybe the beacon is fixed between the two wings, a pain for the pilot then. About the rudder trim, I understand it doesn't have one but it seems that nobody said anything to FSX as my joystickcan send a recognized rudder trim signal.

Overall, after flying about three hours et doing about fifteen TnG , a keeper.

Bonjour Dominique,

I have no bleedthru of any lights ( probabely because i use DX10 ) There's a trim tab on the rudder which is actually animated. Aerobatics strictly prohibited because you won't live to tell... ( remarkable Alabeo put so much effort into details, lovely pilot figure too, but no safety harness, chute straps or anything like that ) Dunno bout the real thing but i guess it's just a wonderful sunday tourer.

It could've done with a lot more ' wind thru the wires' sound and i miss VC shadowing ( a real treat with the shaders patch ) and a passenger in the front seat. With his wonderful Ryan STA Bill Lyons proved already years ago how a simple animated head/flying cap in front of you can add a lot to the immersion of not being alone upthere. Not only happend once that i thought she was speaking to me thru the communication tube... B)

As i use Gizmo's 'Shade' some VC's can turn really dark while flying into the sun so if it is provided (otherwise i'll try and add it myself) i like to use VC lighting also during the day. I'll try and contact Alabeo to see if something can be done about the missing radio textures when the VC lights are on, which are done very well too !

Yes, a manual would be welcome ! ( f.i. what exactly does ' Alt Air' do....? )

Overall a real gem, certainly for the price ! Go Alabeo !! ( lots more Waco's where this comes from, what about a Ryan STA, or Travelair ! )

Cheers,

Jan

Didn't see it thanks, I was referring to the absence of a rudder trim crank inside the cockpit.

I agree on both accounts B)

Inside : how do the clock and fuel computer on the rightside of the dashboard work (if they do which seems the case for the fuel computer, not sure for the clock)

Flying : recommended settings in the pattern , with and without Xwind.

I will add that, returning to simming, I checked whether Robert Sanderson's Stearman75 has been adapted to FSX and was disappointed to see that it was not the case. Wonderful bird it was

That is a beautiful airplane. While I'm tempted, I usually hate hate hate the view from between two wings. I rarely ever fly that FS2004 Stearman that has so much detail.

I'm also curios if those two mirrors actually mirror anything useful?
