MSFS 2024 looks good, but...
Well, call yourself lucky, my friend. And sure, to each his own. Also one of the reasons no instant fly-by in msfs and probabely neither in msfs24. You are no doubt part of the mucho much bigger camp of simmers that could'nt care less about a fly-by camera option then i am, the few poor suckers waiting in their soaking wet tents for a glimpse of a possible fly-by camera option in msfs2024 just because they love to see their take-offs and landings from alongside the runway so much. They can never enjoy their beloved flight simulator as much as those from that other camp, those who don't even have a clue of what this sad bunch of simmers is talking about. "See yourself in your own plane take-off and/or land ???....What kind of nonsense is that ??... " "You're the pilot for Pete's sake !! Not some kind of airplane spotter loser !! " Sorry, hs118, i always get carried away a little bit when i talk about my favourite missing subject in MSFS. Sad to say that i can't advice you to try it sometime... 😁

MSFS 2024 looks good, but...
A 5 minute tutorial how to 'set up' a Fly-By view ??..... Isn't that totally rediculous !?... Normally,in a flight simulator you have a Camera menu from which you can select VC, External, Fly-By (also via key of course). That's it really... That's how it used to be in FSX, P3D, FS9 and before. If you need a third party program to 'set up' a Fly-By camera and you need a 5 minute tutorial to learn how to do that something stinks, doesn't it. Atm, after seeing some of the MSFS2024 preview video's popping up, i'm afraid Fly-By camera fans can forget about it for another 4 years. And forget about FCR as well when it comes to a Fly-By view. It's called a Beta in the current FCR version and it's even more cumbersome to set up than it is to do that with that MSFS Drone thingy. It looks very much like MSFS is just too complex for a smooth working Fly-By camera view to integrate. That's why Asobo won't touch such a camera feature with a barge pole.. Who ever has heard Jorge Neumann speak the words "Fly-By" ?.. It's "Fly-By Bye-Bye" as far as MSFS and MSFS24 are concerned, atleast the easy 'One Click Instant Fly-By View'. Better get used to it, guys, or fly DCS, now THAT's an easy one click Fly-By camera ! Best i've seen sofar ! ( possibly because not even half as complex as MSFS scenerywise aka not complex at all....)

Will we have Fly-By and Tower Views in 2024?
Maybe the reason for the blatantly missing most spectacular view mode in the most spectacular flight simulator is that this very topic has dried up already after a day and a half..... i.e. there's clearly far from enough interest, eagerness to have an instant fly-by camera option in MSFS nore in MSFS2024 for MSAsobo to get to work on it (true, they have a LOT on their plate..). They don't see any harm in seeing all of these MSFS2024 preview video's popping up now usually with the external camera pointed at the rear of the aircraft (not to say as*, i mean who'd like to look an airplane up its as*...it's embarrassing !) like it was just a cheap arcade flying game from the last century... About 3 months total silence here in this topic. If i didn't stumble over it just now, because * I * am certainly one of the 'seemingly' very few who would trade all the fancy new stuff (Ok..., *most* of the fancy new stuff..) they created for MSFS24 just to have a decent, easy to use, one click instant Fly-By camera back in our otherwise amazing super flight simulator. Something that shouldn't even have had to be mentioned, let alone *asked for* in a wish list, because nothing belongs more to the camera options of a flight simulator than a simple one click Fly-By view. Oh "Active Camera" where art thou ???..... (for simmers here that are not familiar with these two magical words : Active Camera for FS9 (FS2004) was a camera system created by a Belgian/French team of highly skilled and innovative programmers called 'Anti-Cyclone'. The first version was freeware, for the final version you'd have to pay a small price but the camera system, including a Play Back option, was really something to behold, particularly the Fly-By camera. Imagine you can click a point along the runway from *within* the VC during final approach where you'd want to stand and externally view your aircraft approach, land and roll out ! You'd just finish your approach, land and roll out, hit the Replay Button and you'd be instantly placed along the runway on the spot you've clicked earlier to watch your aircraft all the way until it turns off the runway at the end of its roll out. And that is over and over again too ! And that goes for your take-off as well of course. Particularly with something like a 747 on a rainy day which i could watch indeed 'over and over again'. A dream come true for any aircraft spotter ! I can easily imagine nobody within the MSAsobo team knows what i'm talking about. Possibly even never heard of 'Active Camera' let alone the possibility to just click a point anywhere at any airport and you'd be instantly transported there while in External View. If they'd known we'd be walking all over the place at an airport and seeing our own aircraft, in External View, depart its stand, taxi to its assigned runway, take-off and dissapear in the distance... Not anymore, guys, not anymore... ( and don't ask me about FCR because setting up a Fly-By view with FCR is even more cumbersome than it is with this MSFS 'Drone' camera and besides, you wouldn't have to 'set up' a Fly-By camera view in the first place of course. Rediculous. A Fly-By camera view should be a 'one click' operation. Take DCS, now THAT's a Fly-By camera view, why oh why can't we have that in MSFS ! ( i think i know.... too complex and seemingly not enough interest in it. We should all pack up our tents and go sit in front of Jorge Neumann's house until he will give in ! "Fly-By Extincsion Rebellion" !! )) A very worried Fly-By camera aficionado. (who more or less lost interest in MSFS just because there is no Fly-By in MSFS. ( Ok, i'm a dedicated aircraft spotter. Hey, who can help that ?...))

Do you turn on/off your PC every day?
Thanks very much Martin ! Of course i have been reading up about this problem off and on but i never came across this one. Maybe it's because i'm still on W10..... Some of the stuff from a possible solution doesn't seem to be available. What i can do of course is keep my Bios up to date in any case. "Power button on the CPU" looks very interesting, never heard of that... (they don't mean the main button on the case, do they ??.....) Thanks again, Martin, this is very welcome indeed, i might even think about updating to Windows 11.. 🙂

Do you turn on/off your PC every day?
Has anyone had/have to deal with a "1 out of 10" situation that your system won't start/wake-up after having it put to sleep ? I am used to put my system to sleep. I am often away from it for a couple of hours so it's often On/Off several times a day. I never felt comfortable shutting it down completely every time. What happens with this "1 out of 10" clausule is that when i hit a key on my keyboard to wake up my precious baby she just won't. The inner lighting comes on and that's it. My monitor remains black but after a few seconds i get this message " No DP signal from your device". Usually i can get it back to work after closing it down and even pull the plug, wait a minute and then try again. Usually i'll then get the Bios and after closing without saving i'm back at my desktop. Pheww!! That "1 out of 10" is not carved in stone. Sometimes my system awakes each and every time for a month or so but then all of a sudden out of the blue this annoying problem is back again. Couple months ago it finally happend, my beloved system wouldn't wake-up/start-up anymore no matter what i tried (for a couple days...). Called an expert and i watched him pull out a tiny round battery or something, put it back again et voilá ! System started up like nothing had happend. That's another Pheww!!!! .... Btw, i also tried shutting down my system after each session instead of putting it to sleep, same thing happens, sometimes "No DP signal from your Device". So it doesn't make no difference putting it to sleep or shut it down completely (i am often busy with something when i have to leave for a couple hours. Very handy to leave everything as is, put system to sleep and later have everything still as it was after waking up the system). In any case i know what to do now when my system doesn't really want to wake-up again. I am just interested in hearing if anyone else knows what i'm talking about ??...🙄 Thanks !

[03MAR15] PMDG's First Product for XPlane...
Would you believe that in my quarter of a century flightsimming ( started with FSII on a Commodore64 back in the 80's...) i have never used a GPS... ? I have learned about flying and navigating thru the booklets that came with FSII which was an absolute joy because i didn't know anything about it. Later on i could get my dirty hands on original but outdated Jeppesen en route charts and terminal charts of just about the whole of Europe and US. Using these charts and using only VOR to VOR and NDB navigation has been the most interesting and rewarding virtual flight time for me, no matter if i'd be flying GA, a propliner or a jetliner. Certainly i learned how to use a GPS when it became available in FS and learned to program an FMC later on (several times even) just because i found it very interesting but i never liked using them for my virtual flights. I, for one, really don't see the fun in having computers take over the things i love to do and take care of myself during a virtual flight. Nothing as exiting as to watch those VOR and/or NDB needles come in to where you expect them when you're up there all alone in the murk... I do fly the wonderful PMDG 747 and 737 occasionally using only the absolute necessary FMC entries ( although very limited i still like to fly with default FSX ATC and flightplans ), no LNAV/VNAV for me, VOR/NDB is still my motto. Can you tell i have been waiting all these 3 years with baited breath for any news about the PMDG DC-6 ? Sure's a bummer that all of a sudden X-Plane is the word but i'm willing to buy it just to fly DC-6. ( i tried XP a couple times but never could get into it, rushed back to FS9/FSX before i could manage to dial in the VOR frequency because i couldn't find the keys to do it... ) XP, FSX, P3D or whatever, i'm ready ! :Praying: cheers, jan

What are you expecting from Dovetail Games?
Well, basically, DTG did the exact opposite with MSTS(Kuju).... With their Railworks/Train Simulator franchise they seem to pretty much know what the're doing... Why not with MSFlight ?... Will they fall into the same trap that made a laughing stock out of MSFlight ? As we say here in Holland " a donkey never hurts itself on the same stone "... For me, being a pixel pilot for more than a quarter of century, the most wonderful and immersive virtual flying experience did not happen in FSX or FS9, nore in any FS itterations before that. It happend in MSFlight ! I, for one, can't wait to see what DTG will surprise us with regarding a second take-off of MSFlight. Knowing what they did with the Kuju TS i'd say we might have something to look forward too. ( basically Boeings and Airbuses are nothing but trains with wings, aren't they... ) cheers, jan

Star Citizen
I notice the topic here beneath, "Elite Dangerous" , didn't accumulate much replies so i don't have much hope for this one neither but one never knows what lurks outthere in space, isn't it.. @ rene_1st: thanks for givin it a try. B) I have tremendously enjoyed Elite on my Atari1024 stfm back then and i'm certainly thinking about buying this new generation. Love the videos and the fact that the developer seems to have kept the original feel of the game. I think with some practise i can get right back into it again. But now there's 'Star Citizen' too.... While 60 Euros for Elite Dangerous Beta is already not for the weak of portemonnee i really don't know what to think of the amount of money one seems to have to spend on Star Citizen. Holy Moly! I see prices there for a single spacecraft alone from $30 up to $325 ! 'Combo' packages from $1150 up to $15000 ! That's total outrageous madness, is it not ??.... When it comes to that the best choice seems to be to buy Elite Dangerous but it's also true that, from what i've seen in the abundage of available videos, Star Citizen looks absolutely amazing. Any active star citizens around here by any chance ?..... If affirm could you please give me some advice what package to buy for starters ? I'd be most interested in exploring stuff, not so much shoot things up. In all the videos i have seen i didn't actually see much exploring going on..... Is that not part of the beta gameplay just yet ? Thanks for any info!

FTX: Global openLC Europe Released
OpenLC is a Global add-on and works only with Global selected That's what it says, Bert, so if you have installed OpenLC and have FTX Europe and make that the active region in FTX Central you're going to see anomalies in textures placement. Would've been better if Orbx would've left out the 'Global' part with their OpenLC product. FTX Europe with FTX Europe OpenLC sounds a lot more viable. Btw, it IS rather hot here, isn't it... :Whew: Groeten, Jan

I'd certainly prefer that too ! But what exactly are we looking at here ? Thanks!

Hoi Bert, Have you actually read mine ? ( particularly the red parts ? )

FTX: Global openLC Europe Released
That's right, Carlito, but the 'complication' starts once you have installed Global OpenLC Europe. And that's what it's all about, isn't it.. From the Global OLC Europe manual, page 13 : Scenario 3: If you intend to spend some time in an Orbx FTX Region without leaving If you intend to spend some time flying within the boundaries of an Orbx FTX Region, for example Europe (England, Scotland, Wales, Northern Ireland, etc.), then you can select to use Region Exclusive Mode To use Region Exclusive Mode, simply select the FTX Region (in this example, Europe), then press Apply. Note that openLC Europe is not the FTX Europe region and selecting it will cause anomalies in the scenery. openLC is a Global addon and works only with Global selected. Scenario 1, Scenario 2 or Scenario 4 are applicable where openLC is concerned. _________________________________________ Aka forget about Scenario 3.... Atleast that's what i'm reading... cheers,

FTX: Global openLC Europe Released
Yup, that's what i said, " with FTX Europe selected " ... ( not FTX Global )
-
FTX: Global openLC Europe Released
Aha,Ok. So you did buy OpenLC Europe and tried it with FTX/England/Wales/Scotland/N-Ireland with FTX Europe selected in your FTX Central, right ?.... Actually i don't think so because then you would've seen misplaced textures and other anomalies all over the place.... It is not called Global OpenLC Europe for nothing, you see. It will work with FTX Global only, not with FTX Europe. And frustrated i am not, my young padawan.

FTX: Global openLC Europe Released
And not only that...... As it looks now you can also kiss your precious FTX England/Wales/Scotland goobye.... No word about that on the FTX OLC page. Was wondering about it because i have FTX England/Wales/Scotland/N-Ireland too ( and like 'em very much). Program is called ' FTX:Global OpenLC Europe', right. When i open up my FTX Central i have two buttons there : FTX Global and FTX Europe. Can only select one...... Obviously FTX Global OLC Europe will work with FTX Global but will it work with FTX Europe, i.e. England/Scotland/Wales/N-Ireland ? ..... Seems like the answer is no...... So now what..... Was on the verge of buying because i love what i see in the screenies but now i'm not so sure anymore. I don't want to loose my precious FTX/UK..... Remarkable, isn't, Both FTX add-ons have Europe in their name but you can't use them together... And there's another thing : what about if UK with FTX Global OLC Europe looks as good ( or maybe even better.... ) as FTX/England/Wales/Scotland/N-Ireland all together ??.... Then i can just throw away the latter 4 editions... :o Cheers, Dilemma Peel

FTX: Global openLC Europe Released
From the OpenLC manual compatibility section : ___________________________________________ UTX Europe (UTX) FTX Global openLC competes with UTX since we replace landclass data contained in UTX. You have a lot of configuration options available using the UTX configuration tool and we recommend you take time to explore what works best when FTXG and openLC are combined. ____________________________________________ Furthermore a link is available to the FTX Compatibility forum but i don't see anything about OpenLC yet... +1 cheers,

New monster PC dies...
Great advice, thanks Jazz ! I have zero experience with overclocking, actually it scares the hell out of me and i'd rather leave it alone all together. I did install FSX and P3Dv2 now that my new system is running again but only with base files. Not that much of a problem to uninstall again if i decide to go thru with OC. Frankly i'm quite appalled with the performance of P3D compared to FSX.First time trying to use it seriously. I found a good beginners OC tutorial for Asus Rampage IV Extreme. The section about voltage is enough to make me walk away with my tail between my legs...Brrrr! :Whew: I'll wait and see what these shop guys have to say first. Thanks again for the advice! cheers, jan

New monster PC dies...
I guess you're right, Bert. Nothing but BSOD's during first FSX tests with my former pc, Alienware ALX, some 5 years ago. Dell did sent me a new vid card and memory right away. Now this.... Anyway, it's running again,( my new rig, that is.. B) ). I asked them to send me a new power supply instead of hauling that heavy monster around. Got it today. Only thing is when i started it up i got a "Overclock failed!" warning. We're going to try to fix that in the coming days. I just hope it'll keep on running now...
