MD11 not following SID

Just before you start reinstalling. Have you followed the FSX reinstalling checklist from the PMDG knowledge base? http://support.preci...nstall-fsx.aspx

I didn't know that document existed but in any case, those were the steps I followed as I needed to move FSX to another location to fix some other problems.

The issue Chris is having is not related to the procedures he uses, but either an MD-11 FMS flaw or a SID problem. I flew a PAN2 SID out of runway 36C at CLT and the plane immediately started turning toward CLT VOR after TO instead of flying assigned heading. I think it's the FMS databases that are sometimes screwed up. But in those cases I just quickly select heading and continue with the flight. I doubt the FMS has issues because otherwise they would have crawled up into the forum long time ago. Makes the flying fun and interesting. Always be on you guard and always monitor what the plane is doing. Beleive me, the plane I fly in real life also throws curves at you in auto mode form time to time ;-)

I only have that issue when arming NAV. It is quite stupid because even when you enter a manual heading it disappears when going toga. I haven't found a way to disarm nav on the ground yet...

Ships are cooler that you think.

If I'm not mistaken what I usually do is arm both automatic profiles and after pressing autoflight in taxi out, I select heading. This will give you heading select mode either immediately after takeoff or passing 400', I'm not sure. In any case I do get heading select 100% of the time doing this procedure.

As I can see in the attached screenshot, you got some things not right, I want to name some:

1. Your ABS disarmed obviously, I don't know why it did in your chase, but if it does you did something wrong.

2. You are pretty slow, as you aren't in the right AF modes as it seems.

3. You didn't press PROF to engage profile mode (or VNAV as it is called by Boeing). Either, you didn't want to or you forgot it.

4. Have you pressed the "NAV" button on the AF panel?

You weren't looking too closely.

Item 4 in your list - NAV is ACTIVE, hence the NAV1 in magenta on the FMA. The rest of your points are quite irrelevant, as it is failing to follow the lateral flight plan, yet NAV (lateral mode) is engaged.

There is a problem with the routing as entered in the FMS - look at the fact the magenta lines terminates immediately after the turn.

Best regards,

Robin.
