Weird temps with the 3770K/OC help!

Hmmm, Word Not Allowed said that maybe it's the 18FPS that's visible to my eye.

Once I switch to the outside view, it's 20FPS, but pretty smooth. Weird.

And now I switched to Aerosoft's Madrid Barajas, inside the NGX cockpit, traffic at 50%, I'm still at 17-18FPS.

FlyTampa's Vienna is at 30FPS Solid, same settings. Gahhhhhhhhhh, this is frustrating.

With my new PC, the FPS will suddenly go down to low 10's and lots of stutters. I decided to check out my OC config and found out that during the IBT, the CPU would sometimes throttle down to as low as 3.7ghz because of temp spikes but it will pass the IBT . I redid the voltage settings and now I'm at 4.4ghz stable throughout the test and FSX is now at a solid 20fps smooth using PMDG and UK2000 EGLL with most of the settings at 3/4 or at max except traffic at 30%.

I also managed to get 4.6ghz stable but for some odd reason FSX doesn't like that (CTD). Still trying to figure this one out.

Hmmmm, that's weird....

My OC stays at 4.7 during IBT, 20 rounds at ultra high stress.

4.7 @ 1.275? No way, not without sub-zero cooling. Either it's not really stable or it's not really that voltage.

It's probably not stable. Passed IBT, but I haven't Prime tested it for longer durations.

What voltages do you see as realistic? I'm really new to overclocking, I could REALLY use some help here, I'm lost amid BCLKs, Multipliers, and Vcores!

Okay, so the insanity with my chip continues.

I went into the BIOS and reset everything, with the intention of using Asus's Auto OC feature, but I disabled hyperthreading and Intel Speedstep.

So here's the crazy bit.. I started the Auto OC software with AI Suite II, it got to 4.6 GHz, which is where it stopped last time (automatically), and I thought that was the end of that, but in fact, it pushed on! The software got to about 4.9 GHz before I manually prevented it from going any higher. If I had not, it would've gone on to 5+, with a H100! It would've led to a chip fried beyond my KFC Specials Bucket (which I'm eating right now, so if there are grammatical errors, I apologize, I'm too buzy stuffing my face.), right? So at 4.9, according to the auto-tuning software, I did an IntelBurnTest, at high.

Here are the results.. Is this normal?! I'm really confused here guys.. The voltage seems okay, I think, but then again, I'm a noob, so what do I know..

Your output is way too low. I get ~140GFLOPs at 4.9GHz. Your chip is either throttling or only clocking a single core. You need to load up CPU-Z and task manager while IBT is running to find out.

Oh god, I'm at my wits end now :(Okay, since then, I've lowered my OC to about 4.6, volts at about 1.25, temps all good, passed about 6 hours of prime before crashing due to unstable RAM.A screenshot of IBT, Task Manager, and CPU-Z running. Where am I going wrong? Output is still at 65GFLOPs :,(I'm also having a RAM issue, I have the G.skill Trident X kit, rated for 2400MHz at 1.65 volts, when I manually set it to that in the BIOS, it crashes a few hours into Prime because of unstable RAM. I'm VERY confused now.

Perhaps you've somehow disabled AVX in the BIOS or you aren't running Windows 7 with Service Pack 1 which adds AVX support to the O.S. That would explain all the symptoms, actually.

A testament to my computer building nooby-ness, I just realized I haven't got any of the Windows service packs installed, in all my excitement with the new hardware, I completely forgot.

So what do i do with this AVX thing?

And what about my RAM?

Sorry if I'm asking too many questions, but I seriously need to figure this stuff out :(

Woot! Troubleshooting FTW. Install SP1 and then your chip will finally be properly stress-tested. At which point you will see your temps skyrocket and understand why many of your fellow Ivy Bridge owners have taken to de-lidding.

Okay, so with SP1 installed, I got the following results. What do you guys think about temps, voltages, etc.?

Oh, and you sir, are a boss.

Huh, but the thing is, realistically, there are no applications that would run your chip at 100%.

(snip)

If you do any video encoding while applying video/audio filters as one does when using Adobe Premiere or simular applications, you can peg all cores (virtual or not) at 100% for a half hour or more doing something most worth while and realistic.

Anyways, good luck with your OC endevors...nice thing about FSX is that it rewards your OC efforts realistically.

Well, I'm working at it, pretty hard. I'm in the middle of stress testing with my current OC of 4.6 @ 1.25V

Temps are hovering at about 50-55, spikes to 60-ish.

That's is pretty good Vcore and temps for 4.6GHz, just stay away from auto-overclock features(i saw that you tried this in your first post) and auto Vcore settings in bios. CPUs will degrade over time whatever voltage they are at, but the higher - voltage the faster the CPU degrades.

According to some very experienced overclockers, you'r CPU should be fine for at least 3-5 years near 1.4 Vcore and max temps around 80 when runing stability tests(under 70 for everyday usage).

My 2700K @4.8GHz and 1.375 Vcore(stable at 1.370, but i allways add +0.05Vcore when stable, that's just me - i have some theories about stability B) )reached max 80c with intel burn test, max 70c with Prime95 1h test, and never goes above 58c with FSX. I am happy with that overclock.

Are you trying to say that there is a connection between Vcore and cooling/temps? This is for the first time when i hear that and i am very interested, i saw that you have experience with overclocking and fsx systems. Does this mean that i can get lover Vcore with water cooling vs air?

If you have 2133MHZ RAM paired with a 4.4-4.6GHZ overclock on your 3770K, you will run FSX very smoothly.

Can anyone confirm that you can run fsx noticeable smoother with 2133MHZ RAM vs 1600MHZ? I belive that 2133 will be more stable than 1600, but i'd like confirmation
