September 11, 201213 yr Hi, I wonder why it is not possible, in such an advanced software as AS 2012, to simulate a random or wanted windshear, that would avoid to the developers of advanced aircraft like the 737 NGX, the excuse "windshear is not simulated, since FS doesn't simulate a windshear". I have just been in a real 777 simulator and there the windshear is perfectly simulated... James Goggi

September 11, 201213 yr Commercial Member Picky, picky, picky Dave! I wasn't trying to be a smart@ss. I really couldn't think of any other answer. LOL I think if I ever got in a real sim I would give up this one. Although after 20 years I am flying the GA's again on this thing. I'm still hoping to see some tornado action soon. September 12, 201213 yr I can speak from experience with Active Sky products since the earliest days of FS-9. Wind shear is simulated at extremely rare occasions and you do not ever want to go there. On the first occasion I was flying a MAAM-SIM DC-3 into Abingdon VA KVJI with heavy T-storms in the area and was on 5 mile final. The airplane simply stopped flying and the crew and 14 souls on board died in the resulting crash. Over the intervening years there have been only two or three occurrences of wind shear at landing. I now fly almost exclusively small GA aircraft and have taken the position that if I cannot avoid a T-storm I turn around and land at the nearest airport immediately. I can attest that wind shear is modeled and that it is a frightening and intense experience. Thankfully it is rare. It is so intense an experience that it is like the laws of normal physics have been suspended. Dan George (woodhick)Check out Greenbrier Aero Club, the VA for and about the GA pilot.
September 12, 201213 yr What? Ive experienced wind shear in Fs9. I was flying the Majestic software Dash 8 (With Active sky) from ENTO to ENBR. I flew straight in to a storm on CRZ and the ride was very very bumpy. Everything went ok however, until I was an final approach for RWY35, flaps full, gear down, about 500 feet to go. Suddenly the aircraft nose dived, it was a total loss of control and it was nasty. Never had i experienced something like that and have not happened to me since then. The only explanation i could find for it was that it had to have been a terrible wind shear removing just about all of my speed and entire lift coeffisient. Yngve GiljebrekkeENZV NSB
September 12, 201213 yr Moderator Not at my FS system but IIRC there is an option to enable/disable wind shear in AS2012. Can someone verify? Vic RIG#1 - I9 14900K MSI Pro z790 RTX 5070Ti 40" 4K Monitor 3840x2160
September 13, 201213 yr Commercial Member Confirmed on the windshear settings in AS. Wake turbulence also which seems to be pretty active at the airports. Regards, Dave Opper HiFi Support Manager
September 14, 201213 yr There have been a few times I've had windshear roll a B772 on its back over the threshold on 28R at SFO.. Very nasty surprise after an 11 hr. flight. I finally had enough sense to turn the windshear settings down some in ASE after that. Tommy
