Recommendations for a regional plane

Featured Replies

I have both ngx and j41 and i didnt notice that much of a hit on the fps. If you can run ngx decent then youll be able to run the j41. What you can also do is wait for the majestic software dash8-q400. Its been in development for years and finally its getting close. It looks like a very good project and def a great regional ac. You should check it out. They have a facebook page with tonns of photos and videos. Currently in aplha testing stages. Good luck

P3D v4.4, FSLabs 320, ORBX Global, Vector, Fly Tampa Airports, FSDT Airports, ActiveSky, REX Sky Force

While it does not have a FMS the new DC-9 from CoolSky is an awesome aircraft IMO.

How is the JS41's VC on frame rates? I currently have adequate performance (high teens to mid-20's) on the MD11 and NGX. Is this heavier on FPS then those two?

The JS41 and MD11 have similar demands from what I can tell, but the JS41 supports the realityxp weather radar, and I have that installed, so it might make my JS heavier than some others. This is one finest planes for Flight Simulator, hundreds of pages of manuals, and clearly the best rendition of a turboprop that has been done until the Majestic. It is probably also the only transport type plane that has passengers sitting in seats visible in outside view. If I didn't already have it, it would be my top pick by a large margin over anything else.

I bit the bullet and got the QW 146 and so far I like it. I was surprised at the FMS though as the flight plan programming process was very similar to the -NGX which made it easy to come to grips with and get flying. I did my usual manual-be-damned approach, put in a route I use to get acquainted with all my planes with FMS (MKJP-KFLL) and it seemed to work well (flight still in progress, dunno about landing yet  ). I flew it by hand for a little bit and it handles pretty well although I did have to watch my speed and pitch closely when taking off. I thought with 4 engines it would have a bit more get up and go but otherwise its not bad. The sound set is quite nice as are the textures in the VC.

Pretty nice purchase and I was surprised at the frame rates in the VC (mid 20's consistently). I think this will be a fun plane to fly.

Thanks for the reply. I may pick up the J41 at some point in the future as I do love a good turbo-prop.

The JS41 and MD11 have similar demands

Thanks for the reply. I've seen a number of people say the same thing so its definitely worth a look later on.

The 146/RJ has five APUs in lieu of engines, as some wag said on here somewhere, so bound to be down on power. When the 146 update comes out, you'll find it has the same FMC as the J41, so that will be a straight forward transition. Engine starting, not so much. ;-)

Can someone please advise as to the quality and realism of the sounds on the PMDG JS41? After watching the video they have on their website, which shows a startup, I was left feeling unimpressed. During the startup sequence particularly there was a high-pitched tinny sounding whine that didn't sound like any turboprop I've ever been in and certainly not like what I would expect to hear from an engine when inside the plane. Is this just the quality of the vid perhaps.

Just want to know as this would be my first PMDG product and as far as FS addons go it's definitely on the expensive side of the spectrum.

Look for YouTube vids of J41s starting up. They do sound quite hideous. It goes away once they're up and running. I had similar doubts. Now I don't even think about it.

I have both, and to be frank, I no longer have the JS installed - I think the avro is a great fun little plane. Usually I like in depth that PMDG provide, however the avro is just so much fun - it has the mixture of depth, but you can also just fly around without programming systems..

Get the Avro - Frame rates are great, and I am yet to find any bugs (I am sure there are some) - And, the BAE will be a free update at the EOY!

:LMAO:

This is one reason I find it interesting. I think its also an irrelevant aircraft in today's cost conscious world where less is more (apparently) and two engines are better than four.

Get the Avro

Got it

I'm loving it right now. I think it will give the MD-11 competition for my attention

I'm looking forward to that update.

I'm still on the fence about the JS though so I think I'll wait a bit and enjoy the Avro.
