October 1, 201213 yr Hi guys, I have a question? What will happen if i redo my fsx.cfg file? Will i loose all of my addons? I have done a boo boo when unistalling REX (I did not revert my FSX back to default textures before uninstalling REX), now I have REX textures all the time. For some reason REX was sapping my frame rates so that is why I unistalled it. Now I have been told that I need to redo my fsx.cfg file but am not sure of what it will do with all of my addons? I know I have Bojote's tweeks and will have to redo that one, but what else will be effected by the default fsx.cfg? Will things in my "Effects", "Sounds", "Gauges" etc... be affected too? In all will it be just like a whole FSX reinstall? Any insight would be greatly appriciated. Kind Regards. Tim.
October 1, 201213 yr No, your addons will be safe. Only your settings will be wiped all back to default. All effects, sounds and whatnot will be fine. ORBX- the way to go Sincerely, John McGee
October 1, 201213 yr Moderator save your old one. Delete it - let FSX build a default one. Comp[are the two and any custom settings you need - copy them over. But you won't "lose" anything, just custom settings. Vic RIG#1 - I9 14900K MSI Pro z790 RTX 5070Ti 40" 4K Monitor 3840x2160
October 1, 201213 yr Not sure how re-doing your fsx.cfg will fix anything with REX textures... are you sure that "advice" was well founded? Bert
October 1, 201213 yr You will also have to answer the silly "Trusted gauges and dll" all over again. I keep a backup and manually add them to the cfg if necessary so it doesn't ask a 1000 times again. I too can't see how the fsx.cfg would affect textures unless there is something not conveyed? There is nouthing in the fsx.cfg in regards to REX. You should have a BU of the original FSX textures rex created on your HDD. If using REXe, they keep a BU on the server.
October 1, 201213 yr Commercial Member Hi Tim, allow me to clarify a few things. In your post on our forum, I didn't notice anyone advising you to redo your fsx.cfg file. However, since you uninstalled REX prior to restoring your original FSX textures, Peter did advise that completing a restore via the original FSX DVD would in fact help in this matter. As for your FPS issues, this topic is discussed in the user manual, and is the reason we have an OPTIONS MANAGER inside of REX. You can pick and choose the texture file sizes and compression algorithms that meet your specific needs. Hope this helps. October 2, 201213 yr Author Hi guys, Thank you all for your input. I must sincerley appologise for my lack of experience with terms and procedures. In responce to timest input "In your post on our forum, I didn't notice anyone advising you to redo your fsx.cfg file. However, since you uninstalled REX prior to restoring your original FSX textures, Peter did advise that completing a restore via the original FSX DVD would in fact help in this matter." I had interepted this advice as a fsx.cfg rebuid due to reading other forums and the likes. As for "reading the manual" there was a manual for REX V2.0 but when i up graded to Essentials with the DVD there was no manual that i could find? I had spent a few day trying differnt settings but always found that the "configurator" would set my clouds back to HD all the time? Thank you all again for your help and I am very sorry for any stuff ups due to my lack of experience. Kind regards. Tim...
October 2, 201213 yr Tim: I would recommend that you go to the REX forums, and do a little research there. I love REX textures and yes the HD ones can be a little intensive but you can go into the configuration panel of REX ES, and set the non HD Texture's. Please go to the REX forums and Register make sure you read how to register and confirm that you are a verified product user. You will receive better help there from the software developers then you will here where everyone will give you a different answer. VATSIM 1068863 P1 rated
October 2, 201213 yr Commercial Member Hi Tim, No worries, it's easy to misinterpret when it comes to FS jargon. The REX user manual (not sure if you still have REX installed) is located in your main REX folder within a folder labelled "Help". You can download it via the link below: http://www.realenvironmentxtreme.com/REX_Essential_Product_Manual.pdf Also there is an options manager available for you to pick and choose which textures will be installed or not. This area also gives you the ability to choose which type of compression algorithms best suit your system as well as texture resolutions. Very flexible. If you have any other questions please feel free to continue this in your thread on our forum. Cheers. Tim FuchsManaging PartnerREX SIMULATIONS website: www.rexsimulations.comsupport: www.rexaxis.com
October 2, 201213 yr Author Hi guys, Peter over at REX has walked me through this little pickle and all is good now. I would like to thank each and every one of you for your time and input to help me get back on track. Kind reagards and forever thankful to you all. Tim..
