October 4, 201213 yr Bristol - you need to sign your posts with your real name - forum rules! Hi Jason, There's no forum rule to sign your posts with your real name. There was several, several years ago but no longer. It is nice though if everyone would tell us what their name is as it helps when responding to a post. Sorry I had to removed your two very nice pictures. You need to review the policies for posting images, whether uploaded here or from another website, like Dropbox. Your images really busted the policy! But you can post them again after reducing them to the right size. Thanks Best regards, Jim Jim Young | AVSIM Online! - Simming's Premier Resource! October 4, 201213 yr Bristol, definately go with Win7 64bit... Even Microsoft have given up on WinXP, and it was only the explosion of netbooks that twisted their hand to keep supporting it until 2014, but they are pretty much trying to wash their hands of it. Win7 is sooo much better if you already have it.. In fact my GTX 560 is only 1 mb Wow, 1mb? Blue screen at the bios then? lol, ok, I'm just messin around... Richard... October 4, 201213 yr Thanks all for the help and advice! I bought the deluxe version on Amazon, so think I need to install SP2 when it comes, yes? Thanks Martin
October 4, 201213 yr I bought the deluxe version on Amazon, so think I need to install SP2 when it comes, yes? Why not Gold? Then there is no question, it has everything including the latest SDK.
October 4, 201213 yr Commercial Member I bought the deluxe version on Amazon, so think I need to install SP2 when it comes, yes? Deluxe = Original Version + SDK (for use of SimConnect on Networked PC). So you need to do this 1. Download both SP1 and SP2, not just SP2! 2. Install DeLuxe, run it and get it registered with the supplied Key. 3. Close it down. Some say even re-boot your PC 4. Install SP1, run FSX again. 5. Close it down. Some say even re-boot your PC -- again! 6. Install SP2, run FSX, and enjoy! Some of the setup needed is only done when FSX is run. Without this sequence things can go wrong and when they go wrong it is VERY difficult to put them right -- it has even been necessary to reinstall Windows it order so sort it. The complexity of the SimConnect side-by-side library registration in Windows is to blame, or the Microsoft FS Team's lack of full understanding of it! (With WinXP it was possible (just) to fix it via Registry editing, but I never found a way with Vista or Win7). Regards Pete Win10: 22H2 19045.2728 CPU: 9900KS at 5.5GHz Memory: 32Gb at 3800 MHz. October 4, 201213 yr Bristol Ello me babber ize just down da road from youz me lover ... sorry guys bristolian talk LOL. I made the jump from FS9 to FSX just over a year ago because of PMDG's NGX, was running the FS9 PMDG 737. I could 'just' run the NGX on my old system (which was a year old £800 Dell machine) but not the way I wanted. For mid range add-ons it was fine even though I was running two graphic cards, TH2GO a touch screen for a CDU, Saitek yoke, rudders, 2x throttles, switch panel, radio panel and a VRI MCP, REX, UTX, GEX, UT2, VOXATC, FS2CREW, Horizon Photo, all UK2000 & Aerosoft Airports ... it was being puched to say the least. I was getting issues with the yoke constantly disconnecting and I had to have the sliders back quite a bit and I was getting the odd stutter issue and sloooow loading ... quite frankly I had enough and bought an i7 OC to 4.9 all singing - all dancing PC ... what did it do? TRANSFORMED it. So ... will FSX work for you? YES providing you dont ask too much from it. NO if you want to run it at VERY high levels with heavy duty add-ons ... I think its fare to say (and prob everyone will agree) if you switch to FSX your bank account will need toping up cuz you'll want better add-ons and theycost in performance. Good flying Rich
October 4, 201213 yr Alreet Ricardoooo my babber! Lol. Wow your rig sounds amazing. Sadly I just don't get enough free time to spend with the sim to justify the required outlay on that scale of hardware! I'm aware that I won't be able to run it with all the sliders maxed but what I'm hoping is that even with some options scaled back a bit it will still give me a better visual experience than FS9. I've just reformatted my PC and done a clean Win7 install so hopefully that will help get the best out of it! Martin
October 8, 201213 yr Yes RCITGuy - I got the base model... Got my m and g mixed up... I know, I was just yanking your chain Anyhows... I have the Gold edition, and now, after an entire day, another new clean re-install of Win7 Ult 64bit, so do I NOT need to download the SP1 & SP2 for FSX? I just picked up a second copy of FSX Gold edition on ebay for £12 delivered too.. Bargain.. Richard... Amateur Pilot and UK Web Hosting Guru 🙂
October 8, 201213 yr Right - Gold is complete - unless you decide to buy add-ons or download free ones.. Happy flying! John John Wingold
October 8, 201213 yr P3D No addon Please post again for the comparison, this time not as big as 400kb!
October 8, 201213 yr Why not just go straight to P3D? Honestly FSX is very old now and unsupported. It is VERY buggy and frustrating. P3D is much smoother and stable, you will face many less issues while at the same time it is very similar to FSX. Plus most addons will work with P3D. So if someone is planning to start anew, why in the world not go for the best program, which right now is P3D 1.4. Then when P3D 2.0 comes out next year, you won't have to pay full price for it.
