V-Sync - does it work?

Featured Replies

Hi,

I'm having god results running DX-10 on my rig. One thing that bothers me a little is the lack of V-sync in DX-10 preview mode. A definitive answer whether v-sync does or doesn't work in DX-10 didn't show up in a search on this forum.

So my question si if anybody has it working? If so, how?

My NI settings:

- Vertical Sync Tear Control: Standard

- Vertical Sync: 1/2 refresh rate

- 8x Sparse Grid SS

- Transparency Multi Sampling: Enabled

fsx.cfg:

- 30 frames locked in sim

- //ForceFullScreenVSync=1 (tried enabling too)

- MultiSamplesPerPixel=4 (just to be sure)

- MultiSampleQuality=8 (just to be sure)

- FIBER_FRAME_TIME_FRACTION=0.1

- TEXTURE_BANDWIDTH_MULT=40

Looking forward to your opinions.

Hey Lenny:

These figures look just fine. Remember - vsync only works in full-screen mode, and I think that's the same when using DX9. I would suspect that vsync will have a hard time working effectively if one cannot hold 30 easily.

My suggestion if it is having a hard time holding 30, or running ok, but with hesitations or the odd stutter, or being unable to manage high slider settings - would be to lower 8x SGSS down to 4SGSS, and move the TBM up to 80, and water to 2x Med. (5)., and pulling some (AG and SC) back a notch in order to give it some breathing room.

I found an interesting thread at simforums.com regarding v-sync, nVidia drivers and Inspector are also touched upon.

I also cant get any vsync working in DX10 - in DX9 it worked no problem..

I have the newest nvidia drivers installed - wonder if its that thats causing it from working

Can you post your fsx.cfg and NI settings, please, Phil?

Hi Phil,

Let me jump in here with a couple of comments as Paul has been fairly busy lately. I noticed you do not have AA turned on in FSX by the fact I only see the following in your config:

[DISPLAY.Device.NVIDIA GeForce GTX 570.0]

Mode=1920x1080x32

Anisotropic=1

There should be an AntiAlias=1 entry here. That must be turned on with DX10. You have a very powerful system and it can handle LOD 6.5 but that is a performance killer for sure! You didn't include your Traffic Manager settings but I would follow my settings:

[TrafficManager]

AirlineDensity=40

GADensity=14

FreewayDensity=10

ShipsAndFerriesDensity=0

LeisureBoatsDensity=0

IFROnly=0

AIRPORT_SCENERY_DENSITY=1

Best regards,

Jim

I reckon there's a number of settings that are too high, Phil - 4097 textures, BP=0 and LOD 6.5. The 570 and a 4.6 proc will barely support those. The saving grace is the fact that you have only a single monitor to feed.

Wind them back, add in the AA as Jim suggests, and then see where she sits. The greater the graphics load - the less able the Inspector will be to control vsync. Too, I would turn off FXAA. I didn't find any benefit during my testing, and in fact it gave poorer AA - BUT it may work better on your system...

I know I'm running 3840x1024, 4.9gig and a 580, but I cannot support 4096, nor a 6.5 LOD or BP=0 all at the same time, and without knowing you traffic load - I can only speculate that these are the reasons for lack of vsync.

Jim, Paul -

Thanks for taking the time to have a look at this for me.

This DX10 stuff is a whole new ball game.

I'll apply what you two suggested and report back later.

Once again many thanks :)

Jim, Paul,

I was just finishing out trying your suggestions and it was still tearing.

Then as you will have seen that DisablePreload=1 post appeared and solved it straight up.

Thanks for helping me out guys :)

I saw that! I can't believe there are more brilliant guys than me and Paul! I was positive we knew everything! :LMAO: I have thrown it into my fsx.cfg too even though I wasn't getting the tearing others are experiencing. Will see how it goes... Glad to hear you have your problem(s) fixed!

Best regards,

Jim
