Its the old conundrum. There are so many cfg settings out there and so many who swear by them (or don't swear by them) that nearly any direction you point in will find adherents and their opposites. Even now, the yes, try it, no, don't, it breaks (place name of something here) varies nearly site by site.

Bjotes cfg tool even addresses that issue in the directions, so it's nothing new. In the end, for me the only way to learn is to try things (After backing up your original cfg) and see what happens on your particular machine.

It's all backed up because I intend to destroy it. ..piece by piece..line by line

I actually did that. All the "important" settings I changed nearly line by line, then changed them some more and benchmarked fsx between changes. I did that for months, and can't imagine now why I thought it was interesting! :P

The only defense is I thought of fsx as more of a computer benchmarking tool than a usable program at the time.

I ran a cfg from http://www.venetubo.com/fsx.html..... .

meh....I think all call it quits for the day.

Think I will get some Flight time in Alaska.

The thing is, a lot of tweaks were designed to help get fsx back on its feet after its been loaded down with other things, so your already fairly clean install might not see as big a difference as some. Wait a few months until your drive is loaded down with.. software absolutely needed for full enjoyment of the sim. :P

If I can't get it to run smoothly (to stand on it's feet) as it is...there won't be any additions to it.

if you want a nice and smooth running fsx, you have to install nvidia inspector

and put the right settings in it including vsync 1/2 refresh rate and set your internal fps in fsx on 30

I actually downloaded NI but I can't see where you actually make those changes.............I also don't want to make any changes that will effect anything other than FSX.

Well speak of the devil!

Read the whole thread. :P :( :( As you can see, which tweaks to use has been an ever rocky road!

In the end, its probably best to ground yourself in the basics, ignore anything that looks like a miracle cure until its proven, and experiment on your own. A lot.

Here is a guide for using NI. As has been stated, use at your own risk.

the last www.simforum etc you see the NI and the last one force on should be modified by 1/2 refresrate which is 30fps and make this also in fsx

i assume you screen is 60 hz

paula

I used the NI and changed the settings as for Word Not Allowed's recommendations. Better results less stuttering, still get a lot of shimmering in the landscape though It's as if the ground is 250 degrees and you are looking .

through the heat rising. . Vsync still tears quite a bit with Trackir but I can live with that., might be able to get rid of some of that by adjusting Trackir settings.

I'll go back and try to set the fsx.cfg as per Word Not Allowed's recommendations .

Three fresh .cfg files in one day! Time to destroy another!

Word Not Allowed's guide is done ..........much better.

I would still like to get it to run smoother.....more tweaking

But don't fall into the trap! It's very easy to end up doing as much tweaking as flying.

I believe it, however this still doesn't seem to be running properly. Still a little rough.

In it's present state I wouldn't be willing to spend any money on add ons.
