Fresh clean install of Gold

Featured Replies

I have a boxed set sitting on my desk and a clean dedicated 1TB hard drive waiting for it.

Can someone point me to the best set of start up instructions to load this.

Thanks.

If it was up to me...make a new partition on that drive dedicated solely for FSX and install FSX in there. Defragment once the install is complete and then continue to installing addons.

Have fun!

Repaint Requests - Get your OWN custom repaint

This drive will be solely for FSX.

Once you have the clean install complete, and before you load any addons. Copy the whole FSX folder somewhere, that way if you get any corrupt files you can simply copy them back.

Prior to starting your install. You will need to create a folder on your dedicated HDD/SSD and name it FSX or Flight Simulator X etc, in order for FSX to do a custom install option. Then install to that folder or the only option the installer will give is the default Drive\ program X86 folder.

Otherwise, to the best of my knowledge, you cannot install directly to a drive. It wont ,cant ,doesnt create a root folder. You must manually create the root folder on the drive. @#$@$ lot easier to do then say. :)

The best installation instructions are done by Nick N on his how to setup FSX and tune it. There are some additional files you need to download and install - http://www.simforums.com/forums/topic29041.html, like SP1 to Microsoft Visual C++ 2005. His guide will get you set up and running then you can start looking at tweaking.

Best regards,

Jim

For FSX Gold? I never had to install any additional files. Gold will update if neccessary. Gold includes all updates, Sp1,Sp2, Acceleration. SDK Sp1, Sp1A and the latest runtimes and DX files, at the time of its release, required in order to run all bundled in a neat pkg.. If their are newer versions already installed on the computer , it will not digress.

Hes referring to FSX Deluxe. Most of his suggestion have become antiquated. For FSX optimization see: http://#####...hardware-guide/

Thanks for your help. ..it's installed.

I am so un- impressed I am tempted to take it right out.

This is DISGUSTING.

How do I get the little window to fill my whole screen? Man this is BAD!

lol

Where to start.

This looks so bad I don't even want to run it.

This can't be that bad right out of the box ....can it?

You need to go into the FSX settings at startup and set your configuration for your computer. It can be pretty ugly out of the box without touching any setting. Even modern games require the user to set settings. You have an excellent system that can run FSX very well if properly set up. You have been provided a couple of excellent links to guides on setting up FSX. I hope you check them out.

Jim

Can't install FSX w/o installing W7... right? I used Nick's install guide for that. And used what I thought appropriate for my build (a month ago) for FSX...
