November 11, 201213 yr I, too, ran up against the limited update thingy. Waiting for their email as we speak. I have the developer version ($10/ month). Hope they hurry because P3d is the only sim I use.
November 11, 201213 yr I have had no problems with P3D, but many early CTD's with FSX in Windows 8 The only app so far that does not work quite right is SImPLatesX and even then it is not it but the abode reader that donna wanna work. So far I got: OPUS, ORBX, ASE, Saitek X52, Carenado planes, all working flawlessly I had no problem activating P3D, I also am on a monthly, which was activated only once before in Win 7, so since you are allowed two activations (I guess), it worked right away.
November 12, 201213 yr Hi! First setup was: Booting from DVD, Windows7 still in place on SSD. While setup is determining what drives are avaliable I did choose to remove the existing partitions. The Windows8 setup created the hidden and the system partition newly and activated Windows8 automatically later on. Next setup I tried a different way. I disconnected the LAN cable first, as I thought, I don't want to provide my Windows Live ID every time I start my computer. Deleted the Windows8 Partitions while setup was running and did continue "offline". Unfortunately Windows did not activate itself and did not show any dialog to do so, when I was online again. As I thought the setup of P3D isn't stable I did the first way of setup again. Booting from DVD, Lancable connected, and deleting the partitions (this time of Windows8) to start again from "blank" SSD. Windows did activate itself automatically and everything appeared to work fine. The Windows8 PRo/64Bit version is the official "29€ Upgrade" download offer from Microsoft from last weekend and as 3 of my USB Sticks weren't accepted I did wrote a DVD +R to setup the computer. Saitek: At this time I only use the Cyborg V.1 with Saitek provided 64 drivers. My Flight Sim Yoke and/or the CH Pedals are not connected so far. I will try this sometime later and try to see i fI run into the same trouble you described. Thanks! Mit freundlichen Grüßen / With kindly regards Ralf P.S. Ahhh, forgot something: Windows Search. As I have more than 100.000photos on my data drive D: and several files and whatever, Windows Search had a lot to do, to find and index all that stuff. I had 25% activity on drive D: while I did nothing at all and that search continued when I tried to fly anywhere. So the 5th time I did rename "My pictures, my music etc." and gave Windows8 Search some 4 empty "Dummy folders" to search and index. :-) 0% activity on Drive D :-) Hello Ralf, Have you tried this? http://janvaane.org/prepar3d/?p=823 Works for both FSX and Prepar3d Jude BradleyBeech Baron: Uh, Tower, verify you want me to taxi in front of the 747?ATC: Yeah, it's OK. December 28, 201213 yr Hi Guys hope you can help. I am trying out Win8, and all my progs work with no problem, but when I installed and ran P3D, everything loads up and I can even hear the sound of the default planes engine, BUT NO DISPALY, except for the taskbar at the bottom of the screen, and a bar at the top saying P3D Academic version, but everything in-between is black. I can press escape and get the "End Flight" box with all the options, and can exit from this, but cant get any other menus because I can't see them. Have installed the latest Nvida drivers for my GTX 580, also tried various compatibility modes in win 8, all with the same result. Also tried changing resolutions, no joy, and switching from window to full screen mode, same result. Had no problems whatsoever in Win 7. Any help would be much appreciated. John.
January 1, 201313 yr I've been using Prepar3d on a clean windows 8 system with no other flight sim. I've had a few issues that I believe were mostly related to how it was installed. I strongly advise running the Prepar3d setup program in Administrator mode and then going back into the Lockheed Martin/Prepar3d/ directory tree structure and setting the file permissions to Full Control. Then, I also recommend running the Program in Admin Mode during normal use. Seems to help avoid some of the problems others reported.
January 1, 201313 yr The display issue should be solved by installing DirectX9 Jude BradleyBeech Baron: Uh, Tower, verify you want me to taxi in front of the 747?ATC: Yeah, it's OK. He's not hungry. January 1, 201313 yr I have Prepar3D installed in Windows 8 Pro 64-bit and I have had very little issues. Keep in mind though that the addons I installed are both for FSX and Prepar3D, so I didn't "forcefully" move the addons over from FSX to Prepar3D.
January 2, 201313 yr Direct11 doesn't contain DirectX9.0. Installing FSX instals DirectX9.0c and uninstalling it doesn't, as far as I know uninstal it. So if you've had FSX on your PC there should be no need to instal DirectX9.0c. Gerry Howard
January 15, 201313 yr Author I've installed Windows 8 Pro and unfortunately i went among those with problems of missing joystick. I have tried all sorts of solutions but unfortunately without any result. Everything that he has left is to expect an update of the MS or the LM. The problem is certainly between MS and FSX / LM beacause the rest of the games (DCS, BF3..) go smoothly with my joystick Today is the most beautiful day of my life...
January 15, 201313 yr You need to install FSUIPC and register it. Unfortunately, I found that some menus cause CTD's when FSUIPC is installed. If you have Windows 7, use it instead. January 15, 201313 yr Author I try with FSUIPC registered and unregistered but unfortunately problem remains. With or without FSUIPC joystick disappears (i disabled the controller directly from cfg). Besides this problems, everything works perfectly. I install Win 8 Pro OEM and unfortunately can not return to Windows 7...it's very frustrating P.S. : meanwhile i received the same error in x-plane 10 Today is the most beautiful day of my life...
January 15, 201313 yr The joystick will disapear in any case, but FSUIPC should still work,as long as you don't try to change settings when the joystick disappears. January 16, 201313 yr Author I tried this before but after approx. 1 minute FSUIPC doesn't see the joystick anymore. Today is the most beautiful day of my life...
January 16, 201313 yr There's a Prepar3d Simconnect joystick code sample here http://www.prepar3d....stickInput.html Has anyone tried running it in Win8? Gerry Howard
