November 3, 201213 yr This is interesting... I had heard of issues with aircraft with tilting gear or steering rods which could and would fail....but the main body gear in a 747? Would be interesting to follow this up.. The gear truck rotated 45 degrees on landing and the crew called for immediate assistance. link to Avherald http://avherald.com/h?article=458582a9&opt=0 Will Reynolds Flight Sim Addict
November 3, 201213 yr Commercial Member Well to be honest this just shows how well designed and strong these beasts are (also high level of maintenance) I've never heard of failure like this on the 747 The 747 main gear rotates with the nose wheel to enhance it's turning radius. It looks like this machines main gear decided it wanted to do it's own thing. Rob Prest
November 3, 201213 yr Yikes, touching down with some of the wheels being 45° off. Reminds me of that Airbus with the 'off' nose wheel. http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=c-Lmfcma0ZI In both cases, I'm glad about the good outcome.
November 3, 201213 yr I bet it smelt bad in that cockpit afterwards! Terrific pilotage. :good: The World is divided into two groups. Those who say "Give me a link" and those that provide the link. WWG1WGA
