November 3, 201213 yr Hello Fellow P3Ders, This is my first post here. Allow me to introduce myself. I have been an avid simmer since FS98 and I am happy to say that P3D is so far the best flight sim I've had the pleasure of tweeking to my liking. Even though I'm running it on a middle of the road system... i7 920 OCed to 4.00 GHz (24/7 and rock solid) Win7 64 Triple nVidia GTX 260 SLIed to triple monitors using nVidia Surround ... I am still able to get a very smooth internally locked frame rate of 25 flying around BC, Canada with UtFsxCan, REX2, Orbx NAPNW, and VanPlus V3, with the following Prepar3D.cfg... Granted, the frame rate does drop down to the low teens flying over the heavily populated area of Vancouver, but for the most part, BC & P3D is a frame rate friendly paradise. The plane I fly the most is ACA Scout (RealAir) with the windows open at around 2000'. The ACA Scout for FSX/P3D is the closest model I've found to a genuine RANS S7. In real life, I live in the Fraser Valley, BC. I have a 1985 Spectrum Beaver RX550 that I fly out of King George Airpark, in Surrey, and I soon hope to buy and fly a RANS S7 Courier. Until then, and probably even then, I will spend countless hours blissfully flying low & slow in P3D. At any rate, I am always browsing thru the various flight sim forums for useful tidbits, so if you have any pointers for me (and others like me), please chime in. Thanks for the good times. November 4, 201213 yr I used this guide to get my system running right: ##### I think your graphics cards are slowing you down though.
November 4, 201213 yr Author I can't seem to stop tinkering with the cfg settings. After rereading yesterday's post, I noticed I had the tml at 512. That was a temp setting I forgot to adjust back to TEXTURE_MAX_LOAD=1024, where it usually is. Also, I had the tbm set at 80 which usually sits at TEXTURE_BANDWIDTH_MULT=40. The one thing that threw me off the most concerning cfg & Inspector settings was trying out tweeks posted by guys like Word Not Allowed and the like, who run fairly high end systems with a single monitor. I have no doubt their tweeks run great on their systems, and I hold these guys with the highest regard and read their posts with the utmost respect, but guys like me with not so high end hardware can spend a lot of time trying their various tweeks with more heartburn being the only thing gained. A good example of this, and one that threw me for quite a while, was the recommended Compatibility and SLI settings in nVidia Inspector for FSX. None of it did anything but slow my system down. I found that setting all the Compatibility to default and SLI to autoselect ran my triple SLIed cards and triple monitors the best. Once that was figured out, then and only then, I had a good base to start from with the cfg tweeks. All us SLIed guys with multiple monitors need to keep in mind that our settings WILL differ from most of what's being posted by those who run single monitors. The higher, the fewer. November 4, 201213 yr Author I used this guide to get my system running right: https://kostasfsworl...hardware-guide/ I think your graphics cards are slowing you down though. Actually, I'm quite happy with my graphics cards running a very smooth locked 25 frame rate in P3D. My biggest bottleneck is my CPU running at only 4.0 GHz. When my frame rates drop, MSI Afterburner indicates less GPU usage. GPU core & shader clocks and memory usage stay the same, but temps drop along with GPU usage levels. So it's not my graphics cards, but my i7 CPU being taxed. Bumping my i7 OC to 4.5 GHz is my next project. The higher, the fewer
November 4, 201213 yr Have you tried Vsync set to 1/2 of the monitor refresh rate? Not sure if you need to lock at 30 for this to really work, or not.. It has added a lot of smoothness to my rig.. http://forum.avsim.net/topic/369500-adaptive-vsync-30fps-new-levels-of-smoothness-in-fs9x/ Bert
November 4, 201213 yr Author Good pointer. I've tried it in the past, but not with my present Inspector & cfg settings. I'll internally lock frames to 30 in my cfg and try the Vsync to 1/2 monitor refresh rate in Inspector again. The higher, the fewer
November 4, 201213 yr Vsync settings and configuration also depends on whether you run Full screen or windowed mode.
November 4, 201213 yr Commercial Member Hey Happy Flying Beaver, Welcome to the best kept secret in flight simming! The more you fly in P3D the more you'll come to appreciate it... especially if you have a multiple monitor setup. That's where I stated to notice a big difference in performance. I can pull off stuff in P3D Surround that I never would have tried in FSX. I've only gone through one round of tweaking since my install and have pretty much left it there - that's something I don't miss in FSX. So you got three 260's in there, eh? I've read that three in SLI can actually degrade gaming performance, and not just with flight simming but other games. So I went with two 580's (one for the center display, and the 2nd for the outer two displays. Anywho... keep this forum bookmarked as it seems to be leading the fight to get simmers over here to the "dark side". Clutch P.S. - regarding your Username - I was called 'Little Beaver' when I was in the Indian Guides many moons ago. Could never understand why all the adults would chuckle when I introduced myself. I'll internally lock frames to 30 in my cfg and try the Vsync to 1/2 monitor refresh rate in Inspector again. Getting stutters at 30 and more often when frame rates drop. It's smoother overall when it's locked to 25 target and not Vsynced to 1/2 refresh rate. I HATE stutters. The higher, the fewer

I noticed a huge difference SLIed to tripple monitors in P3D, compared to FSX. It's P3D4ME forever. I went the GTX 260 x3 route because at the time it was the cheapest. When prices allow, I will go with 2 of something else better. P.S. At one point I was considering going for my UL instructors rating and opening a flight school with the slogan... November 4, 201213 yr Concerning my guide: While it is absolute blast when you're running fast CPU+GPU, the 260 *could* give him problems when running BP=0. No other way than trying though, and I would recommend you do. Keep away from high IQ settings in Nvidia Inspector though, especially 2x SGSS. Vsync is the best smoothness tweak though. I HATE stutters. My blog/guide was for most simmers the answer.

My blog/guide was for most simmers the answer. I couldn't agree more, Word Not Allowed. Your guide is the bona fide de facto standard for most higher end systems. BP=0 doesn't work for me. In fact, most BP suggestions posted by others didn't do much for me either. I've found a BP of 150000 to 200000 works best for my setup. I don't really understand why, but time and testing have proven it true in my case. You could save me some time rereading things. Question... Do the frame rates have to be internally locked in P3D to 30 for the Vsync to 1/2 refresh rate to be effective? The higher, the fewer
November 4, 201213 yr Hi Happy Flying Beaver. We must have crossed path somewhere in the sky... If you remember a Japanese instructor at King George Airpark, we have a common acquaintance. (We flew together out of CFC) Welcome to the world of Prepar3d. I just purchased the sim a very short while ago. At first, i was very disappointed, a real slide show. I mean my rig can run Rise of flight and DCS maxed out without breaking a sweat. But i read the forum, used Bojote's tweak and i run an external fps lock(30 fps) with the game set to unlimited. And voom! Now i get a very smooth flying experience like i never even came close to have in FSX. Case in point: PMDG's NGX at KSFO (FlightBeam) with Traffic X (Prepar3D upgrade) full blast. Now in all account and from past experience, all these ressources demanding add-ons should virtually (pun intented) bring my rig to a stop. Ah so, not so! I get a fantastic 15-25 fps and that's parked at a gate, wtihout stutter, and all the slides maxed out. But i do keep shadows and light bloom off 'til i find a more "all around" perfect setting. And let's don't forget about the fact that Prepar3d Is owned by people who are actualy interested in improving the platform and are doing it. This is only going to get better. See ya 'round the sky! November 4, 201213 yr Do the frame rates have to be internally locked in P3D to 30 for the Vsync to 1/2 refresh rate to be effective? Yes. As long as your monitor refresh is 60.
