Crazy!

I have come to the conclusion that pilots in Alaska are crazy! I don't know what else to think.

This in Nanwalek.

It is the strip of beach right between those 2 hills up ahead. Here is a close up view.

Now, I simply don't understand how one is supposed to land here. There is no approach pattern, just hills and tall trees. These pilots are insane! So, I decided to give it a try. :lol:

The only way I could see is by skirting the side of the hill.

There is no way to avoid brushing the tops of the trees.

At least there are no trees :-)

Flying gliders since 1980

AMD Ryzen 5600x, 32GB RAM, GPU Nvidia RTX 3060 Ti 8 GB, 1 TB and 500 GB nvme2 SSD drives, HP 27" 60Hz LED monitor @ 1920x1080, T16000, Hotas from old X52 Pro, Saitek Combat Rudder Pro (2010 model)

Wow! Turning while Landing! Also, not too much speed, or you will overshoot, but not too little so you don't stall either.

Not sure there is an actual runway, either!

(I would have called it an old gravel parking lot. Probably doubles as a space for local events!) :lol:

This looks more like your typical MSFlight airport........

Oh! I have slipped the surly bonds of Earth
And danced the skies on laughter-silvered wings;

I have an uncle that is an Alaskan bush pilot. The things he has told me about that landed on over the years that don't even remotely resemble an airstrip are numerous. I think my favorite description was that of a remote beach with a 15 degree cant and cross winds that required more slipping and dipping than I'd ever ponder. but, when you have no other choice, you make due with what you have to use.

All I can guess is that its a Cessna of some type. If you can tell more, you are doing good! im%20Not%20Worthy.gif
