November 19, 201213 yr I have come to the conclusion that pilots in Alaska are crazy! I don't know what else to think. This in Nanwalek. It is the strip of beach right between those 2 hills up ahead. Here is a close up view. Now, I simply don't understand how one is supposed to land here. There is no approach pattern, just hills and tall trees. These pilots are insane! So, I decided to give it a try. :lol: The only way I could see is by skirting the side of the hill. There is no way to avoid brushing the tops of the trees. Crazy, I tell you. :lol: Best regards. Luis Hot, humid Caribbean paradise!

November 19, 201213 yr Wow! Turning while Landing! Also, not too much speed, or you will overshoot, but not too little so you don't stall either. Alexis Mefano
November 19, 201213 yr At least there are no trees :-) Not sure there is an actual runway, either! (I would have called it an old gravel parking lot. Probably doubles as a space for local events!) :lol: This looks more like your typical MSFlight airport........ http://youtu.be/4dm88_vYFt8 We are all connected..... To each other, biologically...... November 20, 201213 yr This looks more like your typical MSFlight airport.. Hey, is that the Retro Blue cowl?? Hook Larry Hookins Oh! I have slipped the surly bonds of EarthAnd danced the skies on laughter-silvered wings;
November 20, 201213 yr I have an uncle that is an Alaskan bush pilot. The things he has told me about that landed on over the years that don't even remotely resemble an airstrip are numerous. I think my favorite description was that of a remote beach with a 15 degree cant and cross winds that required more slipping and dipping than I'd ever ponder. but, when you have no other choice, you make due with what you have to use.
November 20, 201213 yr Hey, is that the Retro Blue cowl?? Hook All I can guess is that its a Cessna of some type. If you can tell more, you are doing good! We are all connected.....
