November 23, 201213 yr Hi guys. Having the weekend off (the girlfriend is out of town) I have decided to try out the 64bit beta. However I dont want to ruin my currently stable 10.10 so I was thinking... Is it possible to just copy the xpx directory to another location and update just that directory? Will my 3rd party aircraft still function in this or am I boud to mess everything up? Edit: Worst. Name. Of. Topic. Ever. If a mod can correct this I would be ever so joyed. November 23, 201213 yr Commercial Member Richard When you update to a beta version, you have to make sure the check box is checked. (I'm assuming you know this). The 64 bit beta contains two x plane files. 1 for 32 bit and 1 for 64 bit. Many add ons with plug ins will not work with 64 bit yet, but they will work with the 32 bit. If you don't like the beta for any reason, run the installer again and uncheck the beta box. It'll revert back to 10.10. Good luck

I don't want to mess up my settings and stuff. That's why I wanted to make a 'beta folder' where I don't have to worry about that. November 23, 201213 yr Commercial Member Yes, it is a separate executable and all settings remain. Just in case, back up your preferences. I'm not saying preferences will be reset...I haven't had a problem, but it's just a safeguard.
November 23, 201213 yr Is it possible to just copy the xpx directory to another location and update just that directory? Yes, you can. I have a backup of the whole XPX folder in a different drive just in case the XPX drive drive goes out. I rather just copy the whole directory back to the XPX drive than having to go through the whole installation process. November 23, 201213 yr Author Just about to blow a fuse. Forgot to back up prefs. They are gone. I hate when this happens! Come to think about it, it often does for me. Think I'll have to leave the computer alone now before I break something. Richard 7950x3d | 32Gb 6000mHz RAM | 8Tb NVme | RTX 4090 | MSFS | P3D | XP12
November 23, 201213 yr Author So, after calming myself down a bit (and fixing the settings) it sure feels like the 64bit has the smoothness-edge alright. Anyone know which 3rd party aircraft is currently functional? Have only had time to try the Challenger 300 so far, and that doesn't seem 100% functional. November 23, 201213 yr it sure feels like the 64bit has the smoothness-edge alright. Yes sir,I've been trying both and I can feel the smoothness in the 64bit also. November 23, 201213 yr Author Yes sir,I've been trying both and I can feel the smoothness in the 64bit also. For me, it isn't just a slight increase. It's an almost insane difference. However.. I have tried the following payware aircraft: Cessna 208 Skymaster 337 Q400. Challenger 300 And none of them work. What. So. Ever. The only one I've gotten of the tarmac is the default 172. So I guess it's a tad too soon to be happy about performance.. EDIT: Add the 777 and the CRJ-200 to the list. Can't even turn the batteries on.... The plug ins used for all those add ons use 32 bit versions of LUA (Gizmo and SASL) Cameron and Ben Russell at X-Aviation have taken the initiative to work with Laminar to get 64 bit LUA libraries to work with X-Plane. No timeline has been set, but it is a high priority.

I wonder if this "insane" performance is due to the fact that certain systems simply is inoperable... (?) Richard 7950x3d | 32Gb 6000mHz RAM | 8Tb NVme | RTX 4090 | MSFS | P3D | XP12
November 24, 201213 yr Goran is too much of a gentleman to mention it, but The Leading Edge Simulation Beechcraft Duchess works admirably under 64 bit. J Rollons TC34 Mentor also works except the radios are not tunable, the work around, (I think), are tune the radios in a default plane then switch over to the Mentor. Carenados Bonanza seem to work, although most of Carenados props are not right in 64 bit. Also the C152 seems to work except the props aren't spinning right. The Carenado C172 again the props aren't right but it flies nicely and the radios work. Donald E. Donovan Flying is the 2nd greatest thrill known to man The 1st is landing.

There are ways to achieve the same result in sim by programming it multiple ways, some way more efficient than the next. X-Plane has a constant "flight loop" which runs over and over again. When code is ran in this flight loop then you can see performance degrade. In Gizmo we optimize the way code is processed by placing only necessary items in the continual flight loop, while leaving out the rest that doesn't need to be there until it's called upon. Others don't always do this, and some don't have a choice to do this, and as such performance can degrade. All this said, I think it's safe to assume that what you see FPS wise in 32-bit with an aircraft should pretty much carry over the same to 64-bit once plug-ins are compiled for it. Things won't change a whole lot. Founder of X-Aviation
