during that time apart from the flying part there's lots to do on a computer. Also extremely good for revising; I like to keep current on my Private Pilot stuff so that'll be something I'll do. Could pop out to the Gym or go swimming in the local pool.. I probably spend 75% of it at my PC overall - that's eight hours plus, anything below then I'm there 98% of the time ;-). I get a buzz of long haul; I absolutely love it!

Okay. At least you're not sitting watching the displays motionlessly for the entire flight. I can't imagine anyone doing so (of course reading manuals and talking to others during the flight is probably okay, as it is done in the real world) without multitasking by doing real-life leisurely activities or work while "in" the simulator.

 

Fortunately, I have a school computer for school and work. I often turn to AVSIM or other interesting reads after my B747 has stabilized in cruise, even though my Asian flights are a maximum of two hours long.

NRT-HKG is a favorite of mine have flown a 742, 744 and 737-700 on the route. Will be a great day when I get to take a PMDG 777 on the route too. I don't even have payware HKG but even the default there is something about landing and departing HKG that feels very real. I am not sure what it is but it may be my favorite airport in FSX to fly to. I should look into getting a payware HKG it will be even better. Need to get over there in real life too! :lol:

 

Nothing like a Cathay Pacific 777-300 with the Trent 800s! I think they use the ERs on some of the regional routes, I don't know why.

 

Narita and Hong Kong are nice airports. Narita has extensive viewing areas including an aviation museum!

 

Hong Kong, well its a great friendly place and lots of ex-pats living there and heaps of Western foods and English pubs with Carlsberg beer!

 

Now Cathay also flies to Haneda. Take a domestic flight to Osaka and get some Japanese friend to take you into town. Osaka is great and near Nara and Kyoto!

 

I have posted the photos of the 777-300s with the Trents on Avsim before.

 

But here is one I don't think anyone has seen, overflying Sakurajima!

I'll be handling military charter flights for Air Mobility Command in my 777. KLAX-RJYY-RODN and return. Once the freighter version is out, I'll fly on the old "milk run" route used by the C-141's: Travis AFB-Hickam AFB-Anderson AFB-Kadena AB. Pretty much a spider web all over the Pacific.

 

Too bad Flying Tigers isn't around anymore. Their red, blue and silver paint job would look mighty fine on a 777 cargo bird.

How can you stand such long FSX flights? Do you actually sit in front of the computer the whole time and do other appropriately realistic things throughout the course of the fifteen hours while listening to the roaring engines? I personally like to have at least 5% of my airborne time under manual control.

 

My longest non-stop flight in real life was probably from Hong Kong to New York in a Cathay Pacific B777-300ER, and it was tiring even in the new business class, which was the best I have flown in. The good thing about Asia is there are many high-density, short-haul flights in large aircraft such as the A330, A340, B747, and B777.

Easy, what I do inflight is do other things like browse the net, play some games etc then from time to time I check up on the aircraft ;)

 

Anyways the short haul 777 flights Ill be doing is most likely the ANA ones, I just love them! Too bad Tokyo has hardly got any FSX scenery though, can anybody clarify if there is or isn`t?

Well, of course one can easily pass time doing things like that. But have you considered how mundane it would be to spend the entire flight doing appropriately realistic things, such as planning the descent, reading the manuals, and staring out the windows?

I believe there aren't really any good ones. The overall lack of high-quality FSX scenery for East Asia is why I decided to move my operations to Central Europe.

Just today i've flown THA103 with the 744 HS-TGW, from Chiang Mai (VTCC) to Bangkok (VTBS), on this

leg, Thai airways operater the T7 too :lol:

 

By the way... This flight i had today i did all flight without autopilot, only used autothrottle. So on short flights

like this (1h 20m), we can "fly by hand" :rolleyes: than it will not get so :Yawn: boring.

Anyway, i do program the flight to FMC, than i fly the FD-bars.

Sure hope the PMDG 777 are ready sooooooooooon.

 

Oh... Forgot, i fly with VA FlyingTigersgroup, as a mebmer of VA Thai Airways :wink:

This flight i had today i did all flight without autopilot, only used autothrottle.

Wow—I consider myself to be a person who flies manually a lot, especially compared to real-world B747 pilots, but what you've described is pretty extreme. I generally fly manually to 10000 ft and from glide slope interception. Like you, most of my flights are short (below 500 NM).

 

Flying manually for the entire flight may not actually be that realistic, though it would be interesting to compare the fuel usage of a completely automated flight to a completely manual flight in the same conditions (i.e., just how much more efficient is the autopilot?).

 

Today I performed my second flight to UK2000 Gatwick from Geneva. There must have been a wind bug, as the "real" winds were almost 70 KT between 2000 and 3000 ft! Under the autopilot, the aircraft suddenly slowed to 105 KT. It started descending at a rate of 7500 ft/min before I was finally able to gain manual control with the master alarm and stick shaker ringing in the background. This was my first incident during which I really thought I was going to crash fairly (e.g., not due to a lag spike, random bug, etc.). Hopefully this type of situation will never occur in real life!

My longest route would be KLAX to KPHX!

Now that is extremely short for a 747.

Too bad there are so few (if any) domestic commercial B747 operators in the United States. Currently, the longest route in my Central Europe Cycle is from London Gatwick to Geneva, at 414 NM without SIDs and STARs. The shortest route is from Zurich to Geneva (cruising altitude FL200!), at 125 NM without SIDs and STARs. Surprisingly, the latter has actually been flown in real life before by Air China. I'll be replacing the B747 with the B777 when it is released, as it is probably more realistic to use on these short legs.

Well the 777 would be a good replacement for the short hauls i do with the 747.
