July 26, 200421 yr "I would also like to see virtual passengers in the cabin who react appropriately during the flight."Something tells me you'd like virtual air sickness bags as well? :) H e l p k e e p A V S I M f l y i n g
July 26, 200421 yr FS needs a revamp of its viewing system badly. It very much needs a padlock view to improve sense of motion and to suspend reality on things like approaches with fixation on the end of a runway, turns about a point, fix on other traffic etc. ActiveCamera guys implemented a few of these at my suggestion, but still not done perfectly. To me this is very big necessity. There needs to be native ground AI. Moving ships and cars and especially trains would be of great interest.Eric AND
July 26, 200421 yr Fs should be experienced in vr. This would make all the difference. I'm amazed we're still looking at screens. A vr enviroment WOULD make you feel the turns and loops. And no need for an expensive cockpit simulator setup.
July 26, 200421 yr Hey there great post! How about a real simulated weather environment...I know it was mentioned already above but this gets my vote too. I would expand to say not only water/snow left on the ground, but determining factors to calculate IF the snow lasts, how long it lasts before melting, etc. Same with rain effect- how long will the darker concrete and puddles last? Is it sunny and hot or still cloudy and misty? Ice on the aircraft, more realistic clouds inlcuding lightning that just lights up the thunderhead instead of just lightning hitting the ground or cloud to cloud bolts, smooth weather transistions (takes breath)...intelligent weather system which reads in the METARS like now, but is much smarter than just plopping in weather numbers and changing them as we fly. Why not include reading pixel for pixel some weather map on the internet that reads in cloud cover (satellite) and precipitation then generate those conditions within FS. WEATHER that REALLY affects the aircraft rather than a few bumps here and there.Be more creative and use the numbers and play the weather game. Give us about 5,000 more cloud combinations, in fact make them totally random so we see different patterns, different colors, thicknesses, etc. Nature is not cookie cutter, nature is randomness and excitement. We're not likely to see the same sky (color, cloud combination, etc) twice in a lifetime! Tornadoes, low cloud banks smoothly interacting with the ground, fog, all the good stuff.WIND effects so we can tell it's windy!LAKE/OCEAN color effects, realistic wave effects according to wind, and ice, etc.
July 26, 200421 yr Pabra above is correct. Improved VR hemets, or parabolic surround screens mounted on a mini motion platforms are the future of serious home PC simulation. The ambient room environment around our monitors greatly deters realism, especially in daytime. Comfortable, affordable VR helmets with high resolution for simulation would be a great future alternative. What's more, Concave parabolic screens surrounding a mini-motion platform would also represent a leap in simulation realism (you would actually 'climb inside' it, and close the screens around you like a hatch.) 2 or more high resolution projectors would be required, as in the big simulators. These projectors with the proper configuration, will project off-set stereo images (simmer will wear improved shutter glasses) A prototype similar to this already exists, although unfortunately I've lost the link to it. I expect these paradigm leaps in the simulation environment to occur 3-7 years or so from now.John M.
July 26, 200421 yr Personally, I'd like to see something that is not FS specific- A virtual world, with various sims laid on top of it. Obviously, this would only be ultimately useful in an online environment, but would have it's uses offline too. For instance, FS, and train sim would share the same servers. Much like WWII online, or some the other massively multiplayer sims. Even combat sims, like Falcon 4 could be included- making flying your 737 over N. Korea a potentially dangerous mistake without proper clearances. It could have a contanstly changing world- so all users would have the same "add-ons" or rather patches. So when a new airport is created, all users will see it. A sort of regional-download thing, so when you plan a flight to Hong Kong, it would download any changes necessary. Your home airport would always keep itself patched. Naturally, the level of detail would be adjustable to suit bandwidth. You could choose which scenery types to include- some users may not want to see the train sim guys hauling timber down the tracks. But some users may want to fly there Bell 206 to Michigan International Speedway, and watch the NASCAR 2003 guys in a scheduled practice session. You could fly over Newport, RI, and watch virtual sailors in a regatta. Or maybe even the space sim guys launching out of Cape Canaveral.
July 26, 200421 yr 100% voice recon with ATC. No windows with choices to select needed. That might be a while away so to hit for something closer I would say pilot controlled lighting and if that doesnt work for ya how about the ability to get out of the plane and automatedily go to the flight planning room at a normal pace where one could enjoy the addon scenery on the ground. Just like how AI follow a path to get around on the ground allow a way so that if you click esc an option to visit the flight planning room would allow the user to slew from the plane to the flight planning room to load a flight plan or change weather or what not. Authors cold then locate the Flight planning room with AFCAD and you could have more than one and should also work with tower view. How are those for not currently modelled?Edit for an after thought that would be great to me would be multiplayer hat combines Default ATC with AI and other Pilots. It would be the best of both worlds having real pilots with AI and at ever field and airspace a controller. I really miss flying online but cant stand giving up ATC and busy airports. It would need to be tied into UT so that all the flights are still real airlines on a real schedule as well and could be hosted in rooms offering differnet levels of AI so that a user could select in interves of 10 the I precentage.
July 26, 200421 yr What I would like to see is more buildings and, something new, houses. I would like to fly VFR and be able to find my house and it actually be a building instead of a just a crappy picture. Seeing the houses in the different patterns that they are in, in the real world would be awesome to see in flightsim especially for VFR flying. Could you imagine being on final looking out on the wingview and being about to see where you live or work and traffic moving on the local interstate or road around the airport...that would just be crazy! Right now I just don't think FS gives any of the cities justice on what they really look like. I know adding individual houses is nearly impossible but one can wish. The buildings can be improved to give each of the cities a more realistic feeling. Daniel
July 26, 200421 yr Reading some other posts I made up my mind. Very unfeasible things: Feel the motion: Acceleration, turbulence, ascending fast. More feasible: 3d (I know there is already, I mean out of the box)Very feasible: configuring your AC weight distribution, adding lugagge and passengers. I also know this can be done with what we have, but it is not so simple. What I mean is simple a feature in the program that lets you add or remove weight and distribute the same way you choose an airport or you set your fuel. Weight is so much important when flying, and other than fuel we can't choose if we are flying an empty AC or one full of passengers, luggage and cargo.Leo
July 26, 200421 yr I would like to see a fully interactive world. By this i mean seeing Passengers board your plane. I would like to see a "Follow Me" car on airports. Working Jetaways. Hightways full of moving cars. And people walk around naiboorhood. Basiclly everything that we have in the real world:-lol
July 26, 200421 yr I don't want the real world. I would like to see random autogen mesh and landclass with autogen cities and airports. VFR quality. I want to be lost in my sim. Now that's adventure!
July 26, 200421 yr Ok my turn. I'd like to have a virtual world that is an exact copy of the real world. You see, feel and can do things like in the real world. So you would only be able to fly aircraft, but drive cars boats, whatever you like! All with an interface which gives you all the input like the real world does, g-forces, the touch, temperatur, emotions, everything! A world where people around the world gather and can do whatever they like! Only your imagination is the limit! But even for that program, I wouldn't leave my girlfriend ;-)Ok, maybe for some hours:-hah

July 26, 200421 yr Here's my 2c out-of-the-box:True aircraft systems. Real start-up sequences for all planes (stock and 3rd party). Systems that can fail due to misuse or fatigue.RgdsMarcelo
July 26, 200421 yr Commercial Member Three things which really surprise me (because they don't exist in the sim) when flying for real:1. Clouds have shadows2. Houses aren't really houses, they're properties, complete with boundaries, outbuildings, trees etc. Trees aren't always just trees either, they're forests, windbreaks, copses...3. Airport approaches can be busy! We need that big rig rocketing past as you are coming in to land.
