I need everyone to really think about this one

Two things for me:Navigation. Real-life localizer capture during an ILS approach is a gradual process. In MSFS the localizer needle is a rocket. They need to work on fine details like this.I would like more realistic sounds. I've had the good fortune to have ridden jump seat on a Boeing 767, 747 & on a 737 in the early 90's & the noise levels in the cockpit are extremely low compared to the diesel-engine blast that you get in MSFS. I would like to see detailed work done on this, not just the subdued engine noise in the cruise (cuz they are *far behind* you on those wings!)but the air- conditioning, slight rumbles during taxi as you go over a bump etc. Lastly they need to engineer the sound to support surround-sound systems. So when you land, you hear the thud of the main gear from the rear speakers and then the squeak of the nosewheel touching down from the front speakers. Those r my wishes :)

Three ideas come to mind that haven't already been mentioned.First is a hybrid AI/live ATC environment that allows live controllers to plug in (a la VATSIM), with AI ATC taking over when transitioning to areas without live controllers, so that the entire flight is covered by a contiguous ATC environment. And voice capability should be an integral part of multiplayer capability.Second...minor but not completely so, is the absence of any natural denizens of the air. The environment should include birds of type and densities appropriate to the locale and season, with the possibility for birdstrikes. One of the closest brushes with disaster I've had in an airplane was a birdstrike with a turkey-vulture sized indigenous fowl near N'Djamena, Chad in a Gulfstream III. It ripped a 2x3' hole in the airplane, with initial impact just inches from the left windshield.Seeing a flock of geese winging it south below you would be neat in a GA bird...and seeing hawks circling in thermals great for the virtual sailplane pilot. Which brings me to point #3...we really need weather to include vertical air mass phenomena such as thermals, up/downdrafts associated with mountains and convective weather, right up to the dreaded microburst. Tell-tales such as dust rings, virga, and dust devils would be nice.CheersBob ScottATP IMEL Gulfstream II-III-IV-V L-300Washington, DC

No, it wasn't Star Trek but a game called Wing Commander. They had some big time movie stars who worked on this game. This is back in the days when CD's were new technology and now we have DVDs....Jim Young

Well since we're dreaming...Truly interactive local met conditions (real time anywhere in the world, of course) that include blue thermals, wave lift, sink, rotor clouds, etc. This feature would include variables such as time of day, season, and local terrain. Make an approach across a parking lot on a hot summer day and feel the turbulence; freshly irrigated green fields would yield dead air.Greg

What aabout a realistic (dynamic) air traffic environment? For example, a thunderstorm, snowstorm, etc. at an airport creates delays in departures, causes holds or diversions for inbound aircraft and departure delays or ground stops for inbound aircraft yet to depart, close smaller fields.Maybe couple it with the better weather (slick runways, etc.) and the integrated sims...

Hi ClayWell you are right. Just googled the film and yes Christopher Walken was in a lead role and was the "hat" wearer. Cliff Robertson was in the film also but I cannot recall his role. Must get the video out again. It was fairly advanced for its time and I recall that it was one of the first video's I played after getting a stereo capable video player. The stereo effect just bought a whole new dimension to the experience.I remember well how one of the scientists (don't think it was Walkin) ended his days - I can think of worse ways to go. I had forgotten about Christopher Walkin's involvement, too many grey cells now I am afraid and it was 1983, sheesh over 20 years ago. Thanks for clarifying that.

Don't the Hovercontrol boys have something similar to this? They call it Liquid Scenery which downloads to your PC as you need it. Seems to be controlled centrally so that it can be updated and everyone who is operating in the same theatre is looking at the same scenery.Sounds like a great idea to me.

Good points Dimbo.....FS9 does to a limited degree have some kind of ATC control over flying in VFR mode whereby it will refuse clearance at times due to poor visibility, but yes, it'd be great if in bound flights were delayed, put into a holding pattern due to adverse weather, and flights out were delayed accordingly too.....And on that, maybe it needs to model the usage of alternative airports next time round too, so that you can be diverted should problems arise at your destination airport. AI needs better ground handling too, to try to eliminate some of those frustrating go-arounds because some clown parks on the runway to think for a few minutes before going to where he should be....I love the idea as posted earlier about birds....not only do they present a potential problem, but it would just look neat to see a flock of whatevers trying to scoot out of the way!!! In the same vein, even if they're just static autogen scenery, livestock in fields would be nice to see when descending over rural areas, and whilst road traffic is still a dream, it may be possible to have some large train configurations moving around, and animated ships, boats, etc in harbours and in busy shipping lanes.....the English channel looks mighty quiet from up there at the moment!!

Hi! Well - I didn't say Graphics and Scenery shouldn't be there at all or have no priority. I just said that the FM should have the highest priority.Of course - I have installed the Realair Cessna 172, and this is how it SHOULD be with all the other planes, and I don't want to spend a ton of extra Bucks to get them. And yes, FM isn't the only thing about sim - a good panel with a correct layout adds to the fun. Too bad my system chokes on most of the addon panels. Must update somewhat soon...Fox

When it comes to flight sims I live in the future, since I don't currently use any--but I believe they have enormous potential, and so I keep checking to see how they're progressing. One thing that could be added is a completely real-looking Cessna--just the one plane in the default product that looks, sounds and feels totally real, including the view from the virtual cockpit. And MS could have a little sort of star sign on the side of the retail box with something along the lines of "Now featuring the super-realistic Cessna 172!" It might be a selling point for them.More broadly though I'd like to see the total and absolute banishment of cartoon-like coloring and texturing in simulations. Now I don't know what's involved in the creation of sceneries and airports and so forth, but I just keep wondering why things can't be made to look like they've been constructed from real metal and real cement. But more in line with the thrust your topic, besides totally real clouds, I'd like to see at least a limited area of scenery--say New York City, Seattle or Los Angeles--which actually shows what's there, instead of just a representation of it or a very, very dulled down reproduction (I'm thinking of the old FU III at this point). MS could start with skyscrapers and office buildings that really look the part. There was recently a Manhattan scenery that made huge strides in this general direction, but I hope the progress and the development of that product and that approach will continue, because for me it doesn't reflect reality yet. And I believe it can, and eventually has to. A helicopter flight through the concrete canyons of Manhattan would be a remarkable thing if it feels real; I've seen films of that sort of thing that have given me vertigo. While VFR photo scenery does indeed show the land as it is, obviously it's limited to a certain altitude, and the coloring of the fields is frequently washed out or just wrong from my perspective. I'm wondering if it's possible to get higher resolution source data and run filters to correct the coloring anomalies. But the world as it is--that's the one that gets me going. And if it was available, I'd pay the money, that's for sure.

Very nice post!I would say... Bring back good multiplayer capabilities! The limit of 16 players on the same session really limits the pleasure and enviroment when flying online in VATSIM/IVAO. There are cases where you have dozens of planes in an airport and you only see 14 of them.We need to be able to see a LOT of other pilots. More than 50 or 60...To enhance, taking a loooong shot, native VATSIM/IVAO support and usage of the AI fleet to show the other pilots. That would not harm the performance too much and reduce the overhead required by external programs to do the same thing.I can wake up now... :-)George DorkofikisAthens, Greecehttp://www.precisionmanuals.com/images/forum/betaimg.jpg

Well, I remember reading Neuromancer of WIlliam Gibson years ago where he created cyberspace. It is obvious that the environment for flightsimming could be one of the first to go totally cyber. Why installing this environment on every single PC when everyone is in cyberspace (internet) in the first place? The idea was already put forward in this thread but I strongly support it. I imagine flying with my Meridian to Eelde Airport Groningen in the Netherlands, take a cab to the grandprix motorciruit in Assen. I take part in the races or be a manager of on of the teams. Then I fly back to Schiphol, take a big one to Melbourne or Sydney, hop to an island somewhere in Micronesia and help this poor guy from the Far Cry game to save his girlfriend. Fly a helicopter there or race around with a speedboat. Not even the sky is the limit, maybe I would take a space shuttle to be an astronaut. In this cyberspace you bring your own personality with you. In FS9 I am a nobody, no name, no gender whatsoever. No history either. Come on, I hope to see this kind of environment before I die! When I could meet my dream girl there, it would be even more addictive than William Gibson made me believe.

You guys are coming up with some awesome answers! I am impressed, just when I think that no other ideas could be put forward here comes another one. I guess it just goes to show how well things can go if we work as a team. Anyway, we'll see how many more great ideas we can get here before I reveal my reason for asking this. I really wonder what kind of flight sim we could come up with if all of us here on this forum pooled our resources and worked together to create one? Probably a pretty good one judging from your answers!Best regards,Philip Olsonhttp://www.precisionmanuals.com/images/forum/supporter.jpg
