Looking for suggestion on Cessna trainer

Featured Replies

Good morning pilots! After months of talking about it, I finally got my bro into flight simulation. I am now looking around for a good Cessna he can use for his training. When I started, my mean machine was the Cessna 172 default, but for him I would like something more complete and appeasing. The two Cessnas I found are the 172 from Flight1, and the 177 from Dreamfleet. They are both very good, only problem is they both lack the ADF intrument. There is also the one form Carenado, but the autopilot is a one axis only, no altitude. Can someone point me in the right direction? For now I want to stay with a simple aircraft, so no retractable gear, no variable pith propeller. Looking forward to your suggestions,

Enrico

Probably the best would be to wait for A2A or Real Air to release their C172, those will for sure be the best option here. Until then, I'd say the best thing to do is use the default 172 (which isn't that bad), and use some updated FDE, which can be found here.

Many thanks for your suggestions, I'll download those files tonite and try them out, as a matter of fact I thought about Realair too, or A2A, but who knows when their renditions of a trainer Cessna will come out...

As well as imprived FDE being available, you can also give the default 172 a bit of a facelift with RXP T- and N-gauges and Friendly Panels radios.

I'm guess that I'm in the minority of possibly one, that prefers the Carenado C172N over the default 172SP. Perhaps it is because when I could afford flying, it was in a pre-SP model. No autopilot, etc. Even with the above listed mods I just find it more enjoyable to fly.

Does it perform close to a 'real" 172N. Don't know. I can no longer afford a personal comparison, I do plan on buying both the A2A and RealAir versions when they are released, but for now find it a good reliable plane which does what I need it to do in FSX

Thank you all for your suggestions. As I said above, I'll install the FDE, but besides that, I do not think it is woth it to spend money after the default Cessna. I do not even use it anymore, it will be only flown in Multiplayer and cockpit sharing to give my bro some lessons, he is totally new to flying, it will be fun, bye everyone

There is also a Cessna Cardinal by Flight 1.

Although it does not have an adf it looks good and it flies good.

I have it and I like it a lot.

Enrico,

Real Air offer a free C172 for download from their website. It was designed for FS2004 but works well in FSX. The flight dynamics are the closest I have found to our real 172. It also has an ADF.

Otherwise yes wait for the all new Real Air 172 coming soon we hope!

Hello Alex, I saw the Cardinal too, very nice indeed, but it lacks the ADF, or it would have been perfect. Thanks for the heads up
