Heading Select issue

Featured Replies

Hello!

I´m having a problem with utilizing the HEADING SELECT mode:

Each time ( during AUTOFLIGHT ) I change from NAV to HEADING SELECT, the MD11 show´s difficulties with intercepting ( and holding ) a preselected heading.

E.g.: when selecting a new heading ( say 090 ) and pulling the selector knob, the MD11 starts it´s turn as expected. However, the Autoflightsystem initially overshoots the selected heading by a certain amount ( usually around 5 degrees ) to a heading of say around 095. Thereafter, the MD11 starts it´s left turn, overshooting heading 090 again, starting to roll out and initiate a right turn when reaching a heading of around 085, and then the whole story happens again.

In other words, Autoflight "oscillates" around the preselected heading whilst in Heading Select mode.

Remarkably, this happens with no winds at all, no turbulence present ( not even the crappy occasional FSX default turbulence at lower levels ), turbulence effects around aircraft disabled, etc.

Wind smoothing in FSUIPC is NOT active ( there´s no requirement with no wind ).

Any thoughts on that...?

Thank´s in advance

Best regards

Toto

Just found out that this issue has been reported already, more than once only.

One example:

http://forum.avsim.net/topic/125226-md-11-problem-when-flying-a-selected-heading/page__hl__heading

Given that fact, it's even more astonishing ( and disputable ), that PMDG didnt react in any of these topics handling the above mentioned issue.

Obviously, it's not an isolated problem that occurs on a single system!

Best regards

Toto

I find it astonishing, and indisputable, that you have utterly failed to provide a single screen shot of what you are attempting to report.

I'm awfully sorry, not fullfilling your individual expectations, Paul!

I'm sure my consideration, as well as the description within the other threads handling this problem, is sufficiently selfexplanatory.

I am also awfully sorry that PMDG are not living up to your expectations, which I assume explains the tone in your original posts that I was parodying. The thread you linked to was inconclusive except in so far as low IAS would appear to be a factor, but since you make no mention of your IAS, your flaps, your attitude or any of the many other factors that can legitimatly cause lateral instability, most of which would be apparent in a screen shot, and most of which could be considered pilot error, I would have to say that, in my opinion, no. Neither your consideration, not your description is sufficiently explanatory.

I suggest that when reporting an issue, you ask your self the simple question, "could an interested observer read what I have written and reasonably expect to reproduce my situation?"

Toto,

As mentioned a screencap would be very helpful. The phrase "a picture is worth a thousand words" doesn't exist without reason...

It would really help us pin down the issue.

Also, how did you load the aircraft?

And one more thing:

Toto, this does not happen for me. HDG select (pull knob) works for me, at cruise speeds and approach speeds. I do not use FSUIPC so maybe there is a strange interaction with it under some settings.

Cheers

I do use FSUIPC, yet my experience mirrors Clark's.

Does it happen if you disable the weather programs you use? I know this was(?) a big problem with ActiveSky for a long time.

Best regards,

Robin.
