December 7, 201213 yr I'm not sure I can even pronounce this one but we're going on a lagoon hunt. Should be fun. Enjoy. Thank you. Rick $Silver Donor EAA 1317610 I7-7700K @ 4.5ghz, MSI Z270 Gaming MB, 32gb 3200, Geforce RTX2080 Super O/C, 28" Samsung 4k Monitor, Various SSD, HD, and peripherals
December 7, 201213 yr This is another (deliberately?) misleading clue, it would seem, since Google Maps does not recognize either Kasegaluk or Akasegaluk, both of which are listed on the Flight web site as the location. On the other hand, there is a Kasigluk in the region of Bethel and there seem to be a lot of swamps (lagoons?) in that area. Thanks, Chloe, a little bit of confusion gives the Hunts some spice and forces us to do more research. Best regards. Luis Hot, humid Caribbean paradise!
December 7, 201213 yr I always check the sectional charts for the location. No need for google or bing (in most cases) .
December 7, 201213 yr Hi Folks Luis - You'll need to use the AotD's full name. A Google Maps search on Kasegaluk Lagoon displays the correct location. Following your 45AK posting over at the Old Hangar encouraged me to fly the various airports thereabouts. Loving the tree's and ground cover's seasonal colouring, especially the mixing of tree-types, rather than solid uniform blocks. Did you manage to work out what all those clearcut strips & areas were for ? Interested in knowing whats being constructed nearby. Just wish AK's North-Slope landclass was appropriately treeless. Its almost as bad as OrbX England converting 3 ft high bracken into 50 ft tall trees. Richard - Just a very minor niggle, and not in any way a criticism of your sterling work. :good: Are you possibly based east of India, & west of the International Date-Line ? Just guessing above as your AotD posts always attribute the following day's date. Currently the MS server releases/activates AotDs at 11:00 hours PST, (19:00 UTC). Any chance please of using the UTC date when posting future AotD's details ? Many thanks ATB Paul ODG Preview
December 8, 201213 yr :LMAO: Oh, well, gives me a chance to fly around when I get it wrong. Now that I have flown from Bethel to Kasigluk, I shall go and do the Hunt at ... Akesageluk, hmm, I mean, Point Lay. Thanks, Paul, I can always count on you. No idea what the deal is with Cherokee, maybe that couple just likes to have 5 parallel strips on their property. Sure are a lot of crop circles, I mean rectangles, in that area, probably a lot more than Area 51, maybe some top secret military installations in the region. Checking the Sectionals for Alaska could take a bit of time, so I prefer to Google it. Best regards. Luis Hot, humid Caribbean paradise!
December 8, 201213 yr When you do a web (not map) search for Kasegaluk Lagoon in Google or Bing, the first result is a link to a Wikipedia article about it, and that has a lat/long link to the place (on a wide selection of maps). Many (not all) AOTD places in Flight have an associated Wikipedia article with a link to the coordinates. (Besides, you know it has to be near the suggested airport.) I had no trouble finding this one. I started from Barrow, landed at the two Wainwright airports along the way, followed the reef (or whatever you call that skinny land formation) south until I got the cache, then landed at Point Lay. It's funny to fly the RV-6 again, which I chose because I was a little pressed for time this morning. I used to thnk of it as the small, slow one, but after flying the Carbon Cub so much in Alaska, the RV-6 feels like a jet. I love how the Cub can get you in and out of almost anywhere. It's like flying an elevator. - Peter C http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/The_Bob_and_Ray_Show
