December 8, 201213 yr I recently picked up X-10 Global and did a full install on my SSD. Gotta say, I was pretty impressed by Seattle in its default. Looked great. Then, I went to my local airport, about 60 miles from the Rockies (CYQL) and the disappointments really began. The default strip was absolutely woeful and X-plane had the Nasa 747 taking off on the 5500' runway ahead of me. I could live with that though. The biggest issue I had was the distance drawing. I extended the drawing options that I could see, took away fog/haze and could not see even the most basic outline of the rockies from my airport. I flew towards them and probably needed to get about 30-40 miles until they started to come in. Am I missing some basic setting here? I think the mesh and texture looks great from up close, but from a "relatively" short distance on a clear day it's completely missing for me and really kills the immersion factor.
December 8, 201213 yr Bernse, Don't let the scenery troubles get you down, x-plane has a bit of a learning and adjustment curve to it. There are a lot of knowledgeable folks on this forum regarding scenery so keep asking your questions. You might tell us the basics about your computer, RAM amount and also X-plane likes a nice video card so tell us what your running there. Take a look at your rendering settings and maybe bump them up just a item or two above default. Also you might try the WEATHER settings, (Environment/weather ) have internet weather unchecked and then punch the CAVOK button and run the Visibility slider up at bit, say 50 miles. Play with those rendering settings, if it gets out of hand you can just punch the Load All Settings for Maximum Speed button and start over. (lower right of Rendering Settings window) You can try setting the World Detail Distance to high, maybe that will help if the CPU/GPU can handle it. Its important to know what kind of system your running so others can help you along. Stick with it, it will work out for you. Lets the folks know how your doing with it and ask away on the questions, somebody knows...... December 9, 201213 yr Author Thanks very much for the replies. My apologies for not posting my specs. I should know better: i5-2500k, 16GB RAM, 7 Pro, GTX 570. Sims are on a 250GB Crucial SSD. Fresh installs all around and up to date drivers. (Environment/weather ) have internet weather unchecked and then punch the CAVOK buttonand run the Visibility slider up at bit, say 50 miles. That did it. I think. I pushed it all the way up to 100 miles and I saw what looked like hills in the distance. I flew towards them and as I got, again, within about 20-30 miles the "hills" started having some horrific texture pop in of the mountains. I am certainly not impressed with the results. Looks great when you are in the thick of it, but not so good when you're not :(. Is a pitty for immersion. have a look here http://forum.avsim.n...are-your-ideas/ Well, that certainly seems more look like what I had in mind, but I'm a little disapointed X doesn't do something like that out of the box. You can see the difference between "roughly" the same point in my screen shots between FSX and X10. FSX is first and you can clearly see the rockies on the horizon.
December 11, 201213 yr FSX one looks better as in real life rockies mountains are seen like that on the foothills of the high plains. X-plane got a ways to go to improve.
December 11, 201213 yr I see there is a new product just released named Taburet - XPOrbit Scenery Enhancement for X-Plane that basically improves the visibility distant limitations of XP10 when you are flying at high altitude. The screenshots looks very interesting, does anyone have this product and can comment about it? Alexander Colka

The screenshots looks very interesting, does anyone have this product and can comment about it? Wow, those screenshots do look very nice. This has been a huge issue I have XP10, flying at higher altitudes has been a huge disapointment. You buy a fantastic addon like the CRJ-200, and then have to suffer because of the "crappy" visuals out the window. I will be purchasing this and report back, just have to get to town, could never download 2.2 gb of data on my interent connection.
