PMDG MD-11 "protection problems"

Featured Replies

Hello,

I've got several problems with the PMDG MD-11,

1. When the airplane overspeeds the controls "lock"

2. When I use 2x speed or 4x speed only one engine throttle works.

3. When the airplane is flying too slow the controls lock upwards so it only gets worse, i've already checked my trim

Thank you

Greetings!

I'm sorry but your attached images are way too big, they're both over 1.4MB! Causing significant slowdowns with this thread. They've been removed. Please follow our rules and make sure any images you attach are each 400kb max!

Instead of taking photographs, you can easily take a screenshot of whatever is on your monitor with print screen (the 'PrtSc' button on your keyboard, full info here: http://en.wikipedia....ki/Print_screen ) and edit it to acceptable size with a variety of graphics editing programs, including GIMP ( http://www.gimp.org/ ) - which is free.

Photos??? Press PrtScr to get a screenshot, and re-size the image - those are huge.

As for the pitch behavior - as far as I can tell it is "correct" in that the controls are assisting you in push/pull to recover the aircraft (what you're actually experiencing is rapid motion of the stab - check the CONFIG page next time and look).

The throttle behavior is problematic for me. In LOW SPD protection, the throttles are under AT control, and they just sit at 45% N1 instead of going to maximum power.

Best regards,

Robin.

Hi,

Thanks for the help, i solved 1 problem now.

Still i don't know what happend with the one throttle thing and the stall thing.

Here are another few pictures from the stall situation

Thanks for the help

Greetings!

The Flaps 50 is hindering your efforts to recover and narrowing the acceptable speed range so much you are having trouble staying in it. At those speeds the aircraft is probably really sluggish. I rarely use Flaps 50 and only during the last few seconds of a landing IF everything is very stable, and I let the ATS deal with it then.

If you were landing manually and lost control, you want to add power and reduce flaps to 25 (then to 15) so you can accelerate rapidly while climbing.

Just to check, is this during takeoff or landing? Takeoff does not require Flap 50. Use Flaps 25 for takeoffs.

In short, do not linger around in Flaps 50.

good luck

1 and 3 are likely related to more fundamental issues with your knowledge of how the aircraft is supposed to be operated. Are you trying to fight the autoflight, or are you turning it off to recover? The autoflight isn't going to try to recover until it hits protection mode. Up to that point, it's going to do everything you're telling it, which is likely "maintain this speed and this altitude."

I'm guessing you're running into 1 and 3 because of massive wind shifts. Make sure you're running in DWC mode, and if you have FSUIPC (registered), make sure you're using wind smoothing. That will lessen the chance you suddenly end up in one of those situations.

Issue number 2 however, is more related to the fact that running higher sim rates greatly affects how the aircraft operates. I think the limit is actually 8x for most PMDG aircraft, but if your processor isn't up to task, it may very well be that 1x is all that it can handle (particularly if you're getting low framerates already).

Those screenshots are useless. What does the message in yellow say?

Best regards,

Any future screenshots that you want to submit would clearer if you did the shot of the 2D Panel rather than the VC. See attached images. To do an FSX screenshot press the key v, open Windows Paint, within Windows Paint bring up the shot which can be found at C:\Users\YourName\Pictures\Microsoft FSX. Once you have the shot in Windows Paint resize it to 70% and save it as a jpeg photo. Then in the forum reply to this topic after your writing click on more reply options, browse to where your modified shot is located. Then click on attach file.

Thanks for the help everyone!

I am now only struggeling with the stall problem. I am running in manual mode but my problem is not how the airplane stalls, but the controls in a stall are my problem. When the aircraft stalls the controls lock upwards, but I can't do anything to recover the airplane. And when I use anothet joystick the airplane will recover. Maby it has something to do with my joystick. Do i have to recalibrate it or something like that?

Greetings!

You can try to calibrate your joystick, or if its an old one, you can also suspect it might be broken..
