December 26, 201213 yr Ive downloaded DCS world and bought the A10 on steam for £11.99!! This looks fantastic.. Does anybody know if there is a mod or a method of saving cockpit views like how you can with EZDOK in FSX. With news of what Aerofly have planned and DCS's 'EDGE' terrain, things are really looking up for flight simmers in 2013/2014.. As mentioned there is the facility called 'Snap View' which lets you have 10 (I think) views. They are preprogrammed but you can override them. Bes to look it up in the manual or search on the ED forum. If you press the numeric keys you will see the default ones. I use a warthog so every button is already mapped to something in the A10 so I use VAC (Voice activated command) for my snap views. This allows me to say stuff like 'right mfd', 'gun view' (for a zoomed in gun view) 'left mfd' etc. The mfd's are set up so that I have a nice front on enlarged view which is good for target hunting the the TGP etc. With helios and my MFD's on a 4th screen I dont use the views so much but if you are using a single screen then they can be invaluable.
December 27, 201213 yr Author Well guys, great posts, and certainly very useful for me, because although DCS is running good on my rig, I have a Nvidia 450 GTS 1GB video card, and processor is an i5@2500, both non-oc, so, under some settings I do get lower fps, particularly with the p51d (my preferred :-) I was browsing the forums at DCS trying to find good hints regarding graphics settings, so, some of the links above are precious. I had never used nvidia inspector, although I did read about it when I had fsx installed and Word Not Allowed's tweaking guide. Yesterday I downloaded inspector. There is a profile for DCS in it (or is it simply reading the default nvidia control panel?). Anyway, is there any profile dedicated to DCS I can download & try ? Where can I get it from? Or at least, where can I see the settings required? Ive downloaded DCS world and bought the A10 on steam for £11.99!! Hmmm, is this one compatible with the newer versions of DCS World? I bought mine from the DCS site, with the reduced Christmas sale. @KingGidorah: A2A had their own flight simulator, and most surely you remember it too - it was BoB (Battle of Britain), by the time of fs98 (I believe), and I used it... It was rather detailled in terms of flight / systems modelling for it's time. Then, they turned to MSFS, and I do understand their decision, but yesterday I left a message at the A2A forums challenging them to consider DCS World too ;-) Regarding add-ons for other 3pds, I believe I will, for the time being, restrict myself to DCS oinly with the exception of the upcoming UH1, from an Ucranian software house. Yo-Yo is involved on their project to, at least as a consultant / advisor, so, I believe it's going to be an accurate simulation too... The only guns I have fired were p51's I am yet to find myself accquainted to the cockpits of the BS2 and the A10.... I am also trying to find a good combination of settings for my x52 pro + saitek pedals, but only for the p51d... Then I'll have to repeat for the BS and A10... The amazing flight dynamics in DCS, starting with my initial buy - the p51d - were responsible for my total devotion for the platform. The BS2 followed, and although I do not yet even guess how to go through the detailled startup sequence, I have used the non-fighting instant action situations to taste it... and it really tastes good :-) Then came the A10, with the Christmas sales I got it and I think it was a great deal. Looking forward for the UH1. It will also be a great opportunity to check how a 3pd add-on matches the standards of the default aircraft in DCS World. I will now read through the precious links you have kindly posted above ;-) THANK YOU!!!! Ah! And if / when I feel prepared for an online fight, or simpy a peaceful formation flight, I will let you know and we can try to meet online ;-) Flying gliders since 1980 Flightsimming since 1992 AMD Ryzen 5600x, 32GB RAM, GPU Nvidia RTX 3060 Ti 8 GB, 1 TB and 500 GB nvme2 SSD drives, HP 27" 60Hz LED monitor @ 1920x1080, T16000, Hotas from old X52 Pro, Saitek Combat Rudder Pro (2010 model)
December 27, 201213 yr Thank you for the great replies. I'll try your advice out when I get the chance (currently on Daddy duty) I'll let you know how I get on Cheers Phil Phil Mosley - Rotation Films http://youtube.com/rotationfsx @RotationFilms
December 27, 201213 yr For some added performance, try setting resolution of cockpit displays to 512,in the DCS options screen. DIMITRI
December 27, 201213 yr Author I love this sim!!!! Sorry for the exclamation, but i REALLY DO!!!!! Finally got 24fps, without yet having been able to properly set nvidia inspector - just nvidia control panel, and I set MaxFPS=24 in graphics.cfg... Where can I find a good nvidia inspector profile for the most recent DCS World versions? December 27, 201213 yr Anyway, is there any profile dedicated to DCS I can download & try ? Try this! Import it via NI and assosciate it with the DCS exe : http://www.filedropper.com/dimitri DIMITRI
December 27, 201213 yr If you purchase the steam version it will work with DCS world. I have done this before. You buy off steam but do not download the game as steam does not sell dcs world, only the stand alone DCS-A10. When you buy it you will be given a key/serial. This key/serial is compatible with the a10 module for DCS world so you then want to download dcs world + the a10 module and when prompted enter the serial that you got with your steam purchase.

December 27, 201213 yr I've not yet taken any notice of the DCS offerings, but I see more and more of these threads talking of how good it is. So I am downloading DCS World right now - only 4 hours to go! (large, slow downloads at present). I'm sure it will be worth it, although a massive learning curve in any new sim, and I've never flown any combat sim before. Is it an intuitive sim, to learn menus, operation, shortcuts, etc ?
December 27, 201213 yr ....Downloaded DCS World today. First things; - Graphics are lovely and performance great! - Clicking on the items in the "Training" page does nothing. - Can't find any manuals whatsoever with the DCS World install, and haven't got a clue how to start finding my feet in this sim without a manual! Can anyone point me towards how new downloaders of DCS are supposed to get started and learn the ropes? Thanks.
December 27, 201213 yr Well I lasted 2.5 hours outside of FSX! DCS is so not for me. The GUI, the fact that in DCS World, unless you have the A-10, BS or P-51 add-ons, the Training modules do not work, the approach to documentation, etc, it just isn't for me. It's firmly in the Combat approach to flight sims, which is fair enough as that is what it is. I can see combat FS fans enjoying it, but I cannot see (given the extremely limited warzone map area, lack of proper airfields etc) how any civil aviation fans could see it in any way as a replacement for FSX. Not criticizing it though - it is what it is.
December 27, 201213 yr Author Raul, before you get any of the modules I don't belive you have access to any trainning missions, but I may be wrong... Reagarding your oppinion, I can perfectly see your point, having myself been what sometimes call an "hardcore" simmer for many years, having played being an airline pilot, then a GA pilot, a glider pilot, an helo pilot, etc... Unfortunately, the more I used flightsims the more I tended to step into their bugs / limitations / innacuracies, until the point, a few years ago, I decided to take a break... Got away from it for 3-4 yrs, returned with the advent of what remained from a great project I believe was at the start of what ended up being MS FLIGHT, tehn we all know what happened, decided to give (again) x-plane a try, buying xp10, then reinstalled fsx gold, but, on all of those simulators the evident limitations, those that really annoy me because they are directly connected to the most basic aspects of flying even a glider, or a basic prop aircrfat like a C172, smashed into my face... After all, a plausible / as accurate and consisten as possible, simulation of flight is what I try to find in teh very 1st place. With DCS p51d I found the best prop aircraft simulation I have allways been able to "taste". It ahead in almost each and every aspect, and not being a cvil platform - as I would like it to be - and even being the p51d the military version (although a civil version is after all included), I had to give up on my default renitence to combat simulators because even if I use it only for flying around the included scenery, it satisfies me enough to turn useless the use of any other flight simulators, with the exception of silent wings for soaring :-) So, and since "flying" the heavies is no longer what I prefer (until Aerowinx PSX gets released, I hope...), DCS World was my choice, and a source of satisfaction and joy I couldn't realise before I really started using it. The Black Shark followed and then the A10. Together these 3 models will keep me busy, just learning how to operate them, for a looooong time, but daily I start DCS just for a refreshing flight in the p51d, pushing my flight techniques more to the limits and learning how to properly opperate that beautiful and powerful ww2 fightter, and even reading some texts about it's operation, written by RW pilots :-) Flying gliders since 1980 Flightsimming since 1992 AMD Ryzen 5600x, 32GB RAM, GPU Nvidia RTX 3060 Ti 8 GB, 1 TB and 500 GB nvme2 SSD drives, HP 27" 60Hz LED monitor @ 1920x1080, T16000, Hotas from old X52 Pro, Saitek Combat Rudder Pro (2010 model)
December 27, 201213 yr Hi Raul, DCS world, the free download only comes with the one aircraft which doesnt have the advanced flight model. It's OK to tinker around with a bit but doesnt show you the better flight models of the add on aircraft. While you can get fun out of it I think it is more helpful as you found out to see if it runs well on your machine and get an idea of the environment. If you want to use it to fly heavies long distances it's not the thing at the moment. One thing I wanted to pick up on is the opinion that you cannot see how any civil aviation fans could see it as a replacement for FSX although combat FS fans would like it. It doesnt have to be a replacement as long as you have the hard drive space all will be fine, the court system will not pull you over the coals for being unfaithful Depending on your interest in fsx there are a lot of things that can be done in dcs to keep you happy. Not everyone like flying the heavies to which DCS is not currently suited. At the same time some people are only drawn to the heavies because of the extreme realism that is in the systems developed by some companies. If thats whats drawn you to flying simulators then the A10 is a pretty hard aircraft to beat on that front, there are lots of systems and procedures to master before you become proficient. If you like aerobatics there are a lot of aerobatic teams in DCS and the size of the world is not an issue. There was very recently a very big online event with a lot of aerobatic teams flying in it. If you just like flying for flying then you can practice your maneuvers and procedures until your heart is content. If you like flying online with other people then you can be in for a treat, especially on a server run by an online squadron with a number of their guys on line. If you think you are a flying hotshot then the FM of some of these aircraft will figure that out. In a combat scenario there are a number of aerobatic/defensive/offensive maneuvers that are nothing more than a test of your flying skills but skills that are not normally tried in a civilian sim. This isnt your point and click combat where everyone is a hero. If first and foremost you cant control your aircraft then you are on a hiding to nothing. A realistic sim like DCS has a lot to offer FSX users - unless you want to take a 777 up to 30,000 and come back down a few hours later
December 27, 201213 yr
The amazing flight dynamics in DCS, starting with my initial buy - the p51d - were responsible for my total devotion for the platform.
I'm sure I'd enjoy DCS. Yet I live and fly in Rocky Mountain country of the western US. I'd never be content enough to limit myself to specific scenery areas. In my book, scenery rates right up there with flight dynamics. However, Ive been a devoted P-51 fan for the last 52 years.......ever since my grandmother bought me that "invisible" P-51D model when I was 10 years of age. Didn't hurt, that a friend owned a 1944 P-51D either... L.Adamson

It's a standalone (older) version, not compatibile with DCS World (you would have to upgrade to version 2). No training missions, but you can find everything on youtube. ( ).There is also holiday sale between December 25th and January 3rd for DCS products. I had this sim (free version) on my pc for a few months before I discovered how great it is. Mariusz Wrzos
