The Weight of Words.

Hello Everyone,

I hope you all had great holiday, enjoyed the Christmass and New Years :) I apologize in advance as I am not a native English speaker so I know my English is not perfect.

I am frequently following the forum and other online sources regarding flight simulation as I am a big fan as all of you. Moreover, I love PMDG. I mean I really LOVE PMDG.I am the owner of the PMDG 747-400X and its just wonderfull. They produce, to my opinion, by far, the most advanced, sim relaistic, detail resolution oriented software I`ve seen in the sim arena.

This is the first time I am posting here and only cause I noticed few issues lately I would like to address. These issues have nothing to to with the quality of the addons as PMDG always provide state of the art products but issues regarding managment, marketing and customer expectations BASED on declerations.

On around March 2012 PMDG CEO, MR. Randazzo stood on the stage in Munich and gave a 40minutes presentation (with Q&A) about PMDG: where it was, where it is now and where it is going. Link to the presentation part 1 :

. you can find part 2.3.4 as well related. (Were not uploaded by me).

While Mr. Randazzo delivered the presentation, great one to my taste, I loved it, he said more than once ....the airplane is about little more than half in development and we anticipate to release it this year. (meaning 2012). PART 2, starting from 11:15min

. But you really should see it all, its very interesting presentation.

Now, lets hold on for a second. From a business point of view and from credability point of view when a CEO of a company stands on the stage and declare anticipating a product for that same year what it really means, in today`s norma and business standards, is that the product will be released this year. Imagine to yourself Steve Jobs (RIP) stands on the stage in San Fransico declaring ".....and we are anticiapting the new iPhone to be released this year" you have a doubt the product will not be released??, that it will be "dragged" to the next year? be sure the answer is no way. and why? only because that when a CEO says words they have heavy weight, they have impact, they have meaning.

Again, this is not about the quality, we all agree PMDG are the best there is to my modest opinion only.

In addition, I read many posts of what I assume are teenagers asking about why some versions of products released in the next couple of months after the base package was released. Well of course there are the elements of the time, finishing the job, adjusting what needs to be adjusted and all, BUT dont forget this is a basic business economic model to allegedly expand revenue which is natural and understood from a private company who`s basic existing right is to earn. (So, put it in proportions).

Another point I was thinking to myself is why Mr. Randazzo in one of the posts saying something like that one of the employees, VIn I suppose, works only 2 hours in a each day in a week once of the other month? what is the point? if you state it will be delyaed so we will all wait in patient, if you are under staffed so solve it and fullfill your own words (from the Munich Presentation) by getting additional staff. I didnt get that point and I am sorry if I misuderstood it correctly and it was a joke by Mr.Randazzo. I do hope it was a joke, cause its sure sounded as one. (dont forget we are talking about business and companies which have standards as being such).

If the whole matter should be considered and addressed as an amatuer, unprofessional, flexible thing so its all ok. Words can have less weight on that. But if we "judge" things from a formal business standards I find myself minding the gap like travelling on the London`s tube due to having such a gap.

I was wondering about those issues and the things derived from them. I want to emphasis, this is not soft of complaint (as I assume some will say what and why are you comapining about). so again, it is not a complaint. I would love to buy from my hard working money PMDG products as they worth every cent of it.

I can also wait to the release whenever it will be, please remember its a software after all. the whole post wasnt about release date at all it was about the weight of words and their meaning as titled above.

I wish all of us happy new year with health, happiness and dreams coming true.. and keep on flying :)

Yaniv Igal,

Yaniv;

To begin, I'm always impressed by those who can speak more than one language. I think this was a good post as far as diction and structure go.

I interpret the thought of your post to be "If a CEO of a company says something, he needs to stick to his word". Two counterpoins if I may:

1) PMDG probably (lol) does not have the financial means that Apple does. If Apple has a setback or issue, they can hire more folks, increase the assembly line shifts, buy more resources, etc... Point is Apple can overcome many issues by "brute force" via the large war chest of money

2) PMDG is trying to replicate complex systems on a commercial airliner. They are doing this with considerably less people than Apple uses in one of its plants on a task, arguably, more complex and less forgiving. (No one can tell Apple they are wrong with their iOS lgic/coding. However, if any system logic/Flight dynamic is incorrect on the PMDG777, there are some people who will be sure to mention it in this forum) Point: Complex software based on a complex aircraft. Unforseen issues WILL occur when treading in new territory.

Delays are a part of life unfortunalty. Even the actual airplanes have run behind schedules for years, despite Boeing announcing they planes would be out in a specific year.

In regard to working 2 hours a day every other month is a joke to us and maybe a inside joke with the development team. If you were here for the NGX, there was mention of "sacrificing".

PMDG knows their financial state far better than any of us. I'm also assuming the CEO knows how to run his business and can decide whether to staff up or not. I'm almost 100% sure that the company is trying to finish this as soon as practical (and to their standards) so they can get the revenue.

Every post like this makes it more unlikely we'll get any of this information at all, fewer updates and in less detail. I think that takes the magic out of the process, really. It wouldn't be exciting if the products just turned up one day. Please don't spoil it for us.

Hey Hangman how are you?

I disagree with you because of one main key factor which is formality. This is not a comfortable afternoon talk with high school friends. Compare it to calling your cellphone provider asking some tariff change you are entitled to, they say YES it will be changed tomorrow, suddenly you notice it was changed week after,.You would not say that in future its unlikely they will tell me some information or details or anything. The OPPOSITE, they will tell you all the information you need but they must be accurate because as a customer you expact and deserve that. So of course its not 1 to 1 in this case, but the "structure" is the same, the meaning is the same.

Dont be "afraid" PMDG will not give future informtaion, they can decide not to, but they should give information, they should update their customers and fans they should do all as you expect but the only natural minimum of being accurate :)

P.S on a more genral note, the PMDG 747 is coming to around 6 years cycle and its still amaze me, what a wonderfull aircraft. love it. :)

Yaniv Igal

Well i feel that i have to say someting on the matter at hand.

1. Have u paid 1 cent on the T7 if not ur not entitled to any information if PMDG doesnt want to give u one.

2.Theres always a chanse that the developers run into some issues during development and for that reason dont give any updates until they are positive that they cleared it.

3.Ur english is just fine have a great day. :)

Kind regards

This "general forum" is a friendly place for PMDG users to discuss PMDG related topics. By no means is this the official support portal. In other words, this forum is more a place for a "comfortable afternoon talks." Though I like the gentle manner in which you've broached this topic, it still remains simply an impatient rant. Any further than that, I feel I should steer clear of the topic.

BTW, your English is excellent. I wish I were multilingual!

I agree.

We are all excited for the PMDG B777, but honestly, I do not see the point of such nitpicking when it is not beneficial to the development of the aircraft (especially since the evidence you are using is not from a formal written contract, but from an oral presentation, during which slight wording inaccuracies may occur). It should not be upsetting when loose promises ("anticipations") are not met during software development. PMDG is a serious developer, and it is not as if it purposely deceived us and tried to give us false hope. I understand your disappointment, but please be patient.

Have a great new year!

Not seeing to point - anticipate and definite are two different things.
