Flight from KDFW to KMSY tonight, 01/08/13, real weather, as seen in pic, winds were jumping from 95 to 105 Knots making the plane bank suddenly hard left to the point of getting the "BANK ANGLE" warnings, then after a while bank full right also to "BANK ANGLE" to try to mantain magenta line.

 

Is there an AP limitation in the BOEING procedures for this case, or was this just a FSX issue?

 

The plane did this constantly until we reach TOD, then it stiblilzed on the descent, even though winds were still around 80 Knots.

 

I have to say, i did a flight the day before in the Airbus Extended, also with winds varying from 95 to 100, and even though it was a rough flight, it never banked like the 737 did tonite...

I think this is an FSX thing. Since the NGX uses a custom autopilot, it is recommended to disable turbulence effects in the fsx settings (I have it enabled and haven't encountered problems), and find a way to enable wind smoothing, as FSX has an annoyance where it will randomly switch the wind direction/speed. As you can guess this messes up the autopilot.

I see what you are saying, but why did the Airbus Extended not behave the same? in same conditions?

I havent had the bank angle issue. But I am getting problems with airspeed. I am currently running the NGX with REX and anytime REX goes out to get the latest wheather and generate it for the next area which seems to be about every 80 -120 miles along my course the wind will change direction all of a sudden while the wheather injection is occuring. I go from having an 80mph tailwind to headwing and back again. It reaks havoc on my speed. The plane gets tossed around pretty good but nothing extreme like you are experiencing. I do have turbulence turned off in FSX. I aslo found a link in another posting that said to change your turbulence setting in the fsx.cfg file from 1.000000 to .500000 which I tried last night and still had the problem. I have heard that FSUIPC will help with this but not sure. I guess that is probably my next purchase. I just hate to spend money on it if I don't need it.

Sudden big changes in wind direction and speed are known documented issues with FSX and other WX add-ons. The NGX autopilot is modeled with real world limitations so it will disconnect appropriately given the wx conditions presented.

I had the same problem which I posted a few days ago. The autopilot never disconnected util I grabbed the yoke and tried to level it out. I didn't have gusts that I was aware of.....the wind speed was a quartering headwind 2 to 3 oclock at 80 to 85 kts.

Still, if any of you turn off all weather (fly clear skies with no weather add-ons) you'll note the thing flies perfectly.

 

It's a well known issue and you'll see at least a few topics per week, all with the same conclusion:

Use a weather add on that offers wind smoothing (DWC in AS2012), and for better results, use a registered version of FSUIPC with wind and pressure smoothing enabled.

Hey Kyle,

 

I have REX and it does offer smoothing options which I do have enabled but I still get the results I described earlier in a post to this thread. Will FSUIPC work with REX to address this issue?

Solved the issue for me (running AS2012 + FSUIPC). Doesn't matter how the weather comes in - FSUIPC can take care of it.
