January 20, 201313 yr Fellow Pilots, Does anyone know or have a very realistic VC view set up for the NXG? What I am trying to achieve is what they see in real life as much as possible. When you look at the cockpit panel all the instruments lean towards the pilot at an angle, the only way I can get a sort of view like this is to put my eye point through the roof and look down... I do use the Opus camera system which works fine but this seems to be a FSX hard setting and just wondered if anyone knows. Many Thanks Mark
January 20, 201313 yr View angle is set by default to be very realistic (as reported by pilots). The only thing is zoom value, which often is set to far by many users. I'm not pilot, but if you'll watch them in cockpits you'll notice that they're sitting very close to main panel, because all switches must in reach of hand. Watch this
January 20, 201313 yr For all aircraft, I use EZCA to move the camera around the virtual cockpit so it is aligned horizontally with the center of the yoke (center of the rudder pedals for Airbus aircraft) and vertically with the seat head rest (unless the position of the head rest is inaccurately modeled). I like zooming out so at least the upper third of the screen shows the outside, and I can see the PFD, ND, EICAS, and half of the yoke (when centered). During manual, non-visual flight, I expand the 2-D PFD and move it on top of the 3-D PFD. This allows me to follow the FD more accurately. While some may think that doing so is unrealistic, the real PFD is probably about the size of the expanded 2-D version on my 27" monitor.
January 21, 201313 yr Commercial Member This has been discussed at length multiple times, so if you do a search (even in this subforum alone) you'll find a couple with a good discussion of what's going on. A lot of simmers expect that a zoom level of 0.3-0.5 is more realistic, when it's really not. 1.0 is the most realistic, but your view is your monitor alone, so you're only getting about 30-40 degrees of what your eyes would be seeing (i.e. your monitor isn't supplying periphery information - and it really shouldn't). I compromise with about 0.7 on the zoom. That way, I keep my realistic zoom level, without having to hat around so much. The default eyepoint is where it should be. In the end, the pilot would adjust the seat to his or her height and leg length anyway to get to right about that spot. Kyle Rodgers
