January 21, 201313 yr Hello! I have a little thing that always have to do the first time I load FSX. When I do it, appears the plane rotating as usual. No problem. But if I choose another one, or better seen, If I go to change the time.. I have no problem. Change it, but when apply and return the plane stops rotating and FSX seems like it hangs on. But wainting something like 1-2 minutes it makes rotate again the plane and can continue. Exiting fSX and loading again don't produce this. Someone has similar behaviour, and can tell me how to solve it? Thanks! Javier Rollon. Owner of JRollon Planes for Xplane
January 21, 201313 yr It's actually probably nothing wrong with FSX, other than how it goes about actually loading a change you make to settings like airplane, time, weather, etc., and how well your computer deals with that process. Let's say you select a different airplane, and then click apply: FSX, to save a little bit of processing workload, doesn't try to access every single airplane and/or addon you own when you first start FSX, just the one you've selected as the default option. When you change airplanes, FSX is telling your computer, "okay, forget about the one I just had, I want to use this one now." In reality, it's a bit more complicated than that, but the point is, when the airplane stops rotating, that's FSX pausing one process (making the plane rotate) to allow another process (accessing the new plane) to run through what it needs to do. Once the new plane is loaded into memory, FSX allows the plane to rotate again. Unfortunately, all of this likely has to do with your computer's performance. More complex aircraft and changes will take longer. If this is a new problem, it may be a sign of a bigger problem (like a virus or a corrupt file), but if you've had the problem for a while, I would say it's a computer performance issue and not an FSX problem. Hope that helps! Jon K. N324JK
January 21, 201313 yr Author Thanks for the reply. Yes, could be, but I had this problem before formatting the computer. It is an i7 at 4.6ghz 8gb RAM windows 7 64 bits. With nvidia 585ngc. It goes all perfectly with 3 screens at 5040x1050. But always the first load makes that hang on. Even sometimes after I use other programs, it maybe hang on again. I think that is something related with memory use. Javier Rollon. Owner of JRollon Planes for Xplane
January 21, 201313 yr But wainting something like 1-2 minutes it makes rotate again the plane and can continue. Just to clarify, Japo. Are you saying that FSX freezes for some 1-2 minutes and then works normally? And only on the first run, yes?
January 21, 201313 yr Ok. Could there be some module running in the background trying to reach a server or something? 1-2 minutes is a pretty long time though. Can you try using FSX with all addon modules disabled for one run? You can do this if you just grab your dll.xml and exe.xml and move them away. To the Desktop maybe. Edited. Does this happen with the default planes or just some addon ones?
January 22, 201313 yr Author All of them. All the planes. It freezes all the sim in the menu. The first time I thougth it couldn't start.... but I was away a while and when I was back it was running. What dll.xml or exe.xml files are you talking about. Don't understand. Yes.. it could be an addom. I have a good number of them installed. Javier Rollon. Owner of JRollon Planes for Xplane
January 22, 201313 yr I think I have a suggestion for you. Make a backup of your current fsx.cfg at C:\Users\Japo\AppData\Roaming\Microsoft\FSX. Then open the active one with e.g. Windows notepad and head for the [Main] section. Add DisablePreload=1 somewhere in that section (it's not there in a default cfg). Forget the previous suggestion on the dll.xml and exe.xml. I think it's a FSX feature holding you back. That one 'caches' the default flight just after starting FSX. You know, Friday Harbor with the Trike and fair weather. With a lot of scenery installed, this takes some time and renders the FSX menu pretty unresponsive. You should see your HDD lights showing a lot of activity in that phase. Well, if it doesn't work out, just revert back to your backup fsx.cfg. No harm done, that line doesn't alter anything on the system. It just prevents FSX from that caching action and you can start right away with your selection and the actual flight of your choice.
January 22, 201313 yr I think it's your 3 screens and screen resolution. I see this quite often too now that I have installed most of my photoscenery, FSDT airports, Orbx/FTX products, and MyTrafficX. Before then, FSX would start up within 5 seconds and I had no problems configuring for a flight and loading took less than 10 seconds. Loaded all the addons and now it takes a minute or two to get to the startup screen. Then, when I select an aircraft, the trike remains frozen for 2 or 3 minutes, then the aircraft I selected pops up. Because it takes so long for the aircraft selection to appear in the Window, I'm thinking my FSX has frozen or is getting ready to crash. It does not and the flights I load all start up okay and I get great FPS. I found another thing that could be causing some delays in FSX and that's a backup program that automatically updates changes to photos, and other personal files. When it's running its backup, sometimes I can't even surf on the Internet. I have an External 3TB MyBook from Western Digital and I think I will uninstall the backup software that came with the and find one that is more user friendly or I'll simply unplug it during flights. January 22, 201313 yr Author Hi! I thought it was solved when putting the DisablePreload to 1 made the load of the plane fast! but when loading then the loading screen stucks in 6% and remains there for the same exact time 1-2 minutes the first loading of the day. That let me search again and that is something that happens to a few users, but they didn't find the solution (I think). Tried disabling the antivirus, but nothing.. the same. Javier Rollon. January 22, 201313 yr Thanks a lot, CoolP, I tried the DisablePreload=1 myself right now, and it really increases loading time. when loading then the loading screen stucks in 6% and remains there for the same exact time 1-2 minutes the first loading of the day. Do you have very high scenery settings? That might cause long loading times, seeming that FSX got stuck for a few minutes. Florian
January 22, 201313 yr Author Well I suppose maybe I have.. but before when I had those scenaries was ok. Maybe was an airport installed later.. Don't know. well it is an thing that can live with it. I will take a look to forums in days to see if someone found the solution. Thanks! Javier Rollon. Owner of JRollon Planes for Xplane
January 22, 201313 yr The pause at around 6% looks normal to me when using the tweak. Remember that, without the tweak, FSX was already preloading things and not all of them may be location based. I could think of some being of a general nature and therefore would be able to speed up the second loading process. This doesn't happen when we disable that process. With the tweak, the first time FSX actually loads anything flight related happens right after you click 'fly now'. But you folks are correct, high settings may affect FSX with and without the tweak. So a pause may be more prominent when running a lot of active scenery at high detail levels. If you want to reduce the loading times, disable the scenery you don't need for that flight. When crossing continents, only enable those and leave the rest of the addon scenery out. Not talking about the default scenery entries. I would leave those enabled all the time.
January 23, 201313 yr Author Thanks for all the help! Well I cannot disable scenaries because all are from my country only (I don't want think what would happen if I put more countries (lol!) Thanks! Javier Rollon. Owner of JRollon Planes for Xplane
January 23, 201313 yr Sitting there at 6% for a while is perfectly normal. The more add ons you have will increase the time. Dave
