February 13, 201313 yr MS still has FSX in their online store, oddly with Standard and Gold at the same price. Might be difficult to find FSX on any store shelves though. My local Best Buy here in Canada still has several copies on the shelf

February 13, 201313 yr Hi Darran - best advice I can give is to absolutely install it, take the learned AVSIM suggestions to set it up correctly and enjoy yourself. You can always upgrade later, however, my biggest piece of advise is not to spend any further $ on your pc. Not insulting your hardware - its just not going to be a good investment. To really get high end performance from FSX, you need higher end pc components beginning with the motherboard, cpu, etc. Again, AVSIM has all the answers when you decide. Meanwhile, enjoy what you have and then do what the rest of us do - go nuts! Ron W
February 23, 201313 yr Author Hello, After my first week trying a few things out i thought I would let you know how I am getting on, You are right this is so addictive!,I am very happy with how it runs on my system as its nice and smooth and I managed to complete the Rome to Naples Airline run which I really enjoyed, I actually had my heart in my mouth as I came into land. I'm now thinking about buying OpusFSX for the weather and I would like to buy my first Aircraft a passenger Jet as I find the original ones look very bland on the outside., Can anyone recommend one that is quite easy to fly? If you mean a simplified-complexity aircraft by "quite easy to fly", consider the Aerosoft Airbus X or a QualityWings aircraft. If you mean an aircraft easier to fly in real life, consider a very light jet (VLJ) such as the Flight1 Cessna Citation Mustang (C510). Manual flight is a pleasure, but its glass cockpit and jet engines retain some of the benefits of flying large aircraft (speed, technology, etc.).
July 2, 201312 yr Author Well you were absolutely right, I never realised at how addictive this could be, i have purchased my first add on Gatwick extreme airport v3 and am really enjoying it, I am quite surprised at how well it works on my pc too My youtube channel http://www.youtube.com/c/Dkentflyer
July 3, 201312 yr Told ya One warning on the other hand; the more addons, the more your system will struggle with the performance. For me it is a continuous challenge to get the max out of my pc (upgrading and tweaking) and running FSX with countless addons which I have gathered in the past few years. Although I'm happy for you that you like it so far. ======================== HAPPY FLYING Raymond
July 5, 201312 yr Author Yes I see what you mean, I have seen lots of Youtube videos on getting the best out of FSX and it does make my mind boggle. I am pretty happy with how it runs and would like to buy a traffic package. I am a bit concerned about my old video card though(ATi4870HD 512mb) as its quite old now and have read that FSX prefers Nvidia cards?. I don't have a budget to buy a new system but do have up to £100 ($160) to buy a better card but i don't know if it would actually make that much of a difference? or even what to go for?. the last thing I would want to do is end up in a worse situation. July 5, 201312 yr Commercial Member One warning on the other hand; the more addons, the more your system will struggle with the performance. I would say this is true to an extent. A number of scenery or aircraft add-ons is not going to hurt your performance. Having a lot of high detailed scenery add-ons around one area will hurt performance, but not international airports scattered around the world. Same with aircraft. You only have one loaded at a time. Upgrading your card will not help you that much indeed. I would say stay with your current system till its fine for you, and maybe when the time is right for you I would consider a new build. ======================== HAPPY FLYING Raymond

I totaly agree with you. I mostly flying in Europe and I have this continent fully build with addons, all major airports and a lot of ground sceneries are covered and dont't forget the AI traffic. So yes it definetly hurts my performance. On the other hand flying in the US with some major addon airports spread around the country its more easy for my system. ======================== HAPPY FLYING Raymond
July 5, 201312 yr If I was you I would be vary careful with addons until you build a new PC (yes Build) and wait to see where FS is in six months to a year. I would suggest a used joy stick, a used Trackir4 with the simple baseball cap clip and light aircraft addons like Just Flight if you are interested in tubliners and restrict yourself to that based on your hardware. Before you blow hundreds on Addon that are going to work poorly on you system spend hundreds on the system. See NickN new FSX guide on SimForums.
July 6, 201312 yr Author Thank you for taking time out to reply and for the advice, I think I will stick with my current set up, I am thinking about getting My traffic 5.4 for the ai traffic, I already bought a cheap joystick from ebay which makes it much easier to fly. There is so much to choose from when it comes to add ons such as scenery, I was thinking about buying the payware schiphol airport but have heard that it uses a lot of resource.
