August 18, 200421 yr Please tell me....What are the best, and most realistic CLOUDS for Fs9 at this point in time? I'm still using the Default clouds, and I use "Blue Sphere". I have a high end system, so I'm not interested in comprimising the textures or the size of the clouds. I remember a package in 2002 that really improved the defaults. What was it now...I think FSClouds or something like that. I really love flying through realistic clouds. What are all of you using out there?
August 18, 200421 yr IMHO the defualt are still the best looking for the cumulus and cumulonimbus type clouds. They are just bigger and have a bit more detail than anything else you can get right now. I don't believe there are clouds available which look much different than the default, they just have slightly less detail so they run faster. If your happy with the performance using them I'd stay with it. You can gain a bit of smoothness and a frame or two using one of the add on versions though. Allows me to have some more layers usually and still make it flyable.Hornit
August 18, 200421 yr cloudtextures.zipI don't know if you can get it avsim. But it's available here: http://www.surclaro.com/download.php?op=vi...oudtextures.zipHaven't tried it yet though. -Daniel
August 18, 200421 yr I downloaded those based on another thread here in the forum. They are very very good. Reduced file size, but still full effect and 32-bit makes for great fps and IQ.In fact, these will do me until Chris gets FS Sky World organised for FS2004, which I reckon will be the definitive cloudscapes.Allcott

August 18, 200421 yr Well, I've tried the cloudtextures.zip, and there isn't much of a difference to the standard clouds. The image was included in the zip - kinda looks like some low res textures compared to the original ones really ... Maybe they actually have improved, I couldn't really tell because I've been using low res clouds for quite a while now. -Danielhttp://forums.avsim.net/user_files/88394.jpg
August 18, 200421 yr These didn't work for me at all. I installed (the package uses an installer... for cloud textures?), and all went fine until I tried to fly. I tried 3 different flights, and each time the loading screen got to 68% and I got the MS error message... problems with the terrain.dll each time. Then I went into the FS9.cfg and disabled Render to Texture and tried 4 different flights... same error message. I'd had enough. I uninstalled, but of course the installer didn't clean the registry (though it said it did). RegHealer found a couple dozen entries remaining from the package and nuked them for me.The package also includes an installer for the default clouds, but I didn't trust it. So I reinstalled all the default cloud textures from my backup file. I'm back to Chris's clouds now.Cheers,Greg
August 18, 200421 yr Commercial Member Hi, The bmp files used for fs2004, are 100% the same like default with no edit at all, and what's I have been suprised, he upload my fs2002 fsw clouds which the bmp are not used in fs2004, also worst he never write me, and he don't have any email, no name, fictious name. Also in the picture example in the zip files, he show the resised clouds compare to default fs2004 one.All these below are my fsw files from fs2002 and are not used in fs2004:(cld1 to cld 10) (cldcn1.bmp cldcn10.bmp) (stratus_broken,few, scattered.bmp, stratus_overcast.bmp) cumulonimbus_broken, few, scattered bmp) etc.He also use spotlight.bmp from another author from avsim. Thanks daniel, I will immedialty warn the web site and remove this files, anyways all clouds are exact and the same default and he thinking all clouds are used in fs2004 and specialy use my fsw clouds from fs2002 for nothing.Ps: I take 10 sec to see if my files are edited or not, they are all encrypted signature! I am not sure now, If will going to release the amount of freeware anything compared to previous, my files goes anywhere, any web site, and I never know about this and they are sometime inlcuded on others packed author.ThanksChris Willis[link:fsw.simflight.com/FSWMenuFsSim.html]Clouds And Addons For MsFs Kind RegardsChris Willis
August 19, 200421 yr Sorry to hear this, Chris. Now that I recall there was no conatct name or e-mail addy in the readme... that should say all that needs to be said.I just had to re-install FS Water (easy to do with the Flight1 wrapper). After installing the above set of textures my sky was a mess. No where near as good as the included sky textures in FS Water.I recommend this cloud package be given a wide berth. Seems there are far too many questions about copy rights, no contact e-mail (or even the author's name), plus there are far better choices (freeware and payware) available.Greg
August 23, 200421 yr Thanks for the posts...Yes..those clouds from SunClaro caused errors in my FS9 startup.I went back to defaults. Had a lot of problems with those clouds.I TRUST CHRIS WILLIS.....When he's ready to do something, it will be right. I'll just wait until he comes up with something even more realistic than FS9 defaults. When he does...they'll be the clouds for me.
August 23, 200421 yr Author I think Chris' clouds must be the most awaited add-on at this point. I still hope to admire them before FS2006 hits the shelves .. ;)Michael J.http://www.reality-xp.com/community/nr/rsc/rxp-higher.jpg Michael J.
