February 1, 201313 yr I posted a few days ago about my cpu temp being high which is not resolved but it may be that i need a better cooler (currently a corsair h60 ) At the moment my i7 2700k is OC to 4.7ghz but when running fsx with rex orbx etc Im hitting 80-82 deg c I bought the pc with the company that I bought it from doing the Over clocking but from what I can gather they only changed the by all cores to 47 in the bios as far as i am aware they have not touched any voltage settings. As have no real idea exactly what i'm doing in this area I'm reluctant to change anything My memory speed is set at xmp which I understand is correct but my cpu voltages may be a bit low using cpu-z my core voltage seems to vary between 1.136 and 1.464 when I check it with realtemp do these voltages seem about right and would changing any of the voltages reduce the temp ( i suspect not if the voltages are going to go up ) can someone either explain what exactly changing the voltages do or what sort of settings I should have . Thanks . Pete Little
February 1, 201313 yr Hi Pete: Your cooling seems to be a problem, but I've found that XMP also can be a problem, with lots of "auto" this and "auto" that. This may well cause overheating. I very much prefer a manual setup, and specifically, I use these settings here, both for the 2600K and the 2700K. Try the 4.8, and use CoreTemp to watch IntelBurnTest's loading output. CPU-Z won't give you an accurate Vcore temp - use only what you set in BIOS as the "right" voltage. i7 [email protected] | 32GB RAM | EVGA RTX 3080Ti | Maximus Hero VII | 512GB 860 Pro | 512GB 850 Pro | 256GB 840 Pro | 2TB 860 QVO | 1TB 870 EVO | Seagate 3TB Cloud | EVGA 1000 GQ | Win10 Pro | EK Custom water cooling.
February 1, 201313 yr Author Thanks Paul I know the cooler might be a problem ,I should have got the bigger one Do you have any recomendations as to a real good one as I cant find much info on good and bad coolers Will give your settings a try and report back rgds Pete Little
February 1, 201313 yr 1.464V is a lot for those clocks, like Paul said, auto Vcore is a bad idea. Another thing you could check is if the rad fans are set as intake or exhaust. Those Corsair H series loops work best with fresh air blowing through the rad and into the case. Then you need to make sure you have some fans at the top or the back of the case to exhaust the hot air
February 1, 201313 yr I am running 2700k with 4.8 OC and H100i between 50-60 C while flying, just to give you an idea. My voltage flutters around 1.36 and 1.38 at this OC. February 2, 201313 yr Personal pref at this moment, Pete, should I have to rebuild again with a budget in mind - as the big fan/air systems take up so much room I would grab one of the Corsair Hydro units. They are fairly compact, and work very well with little risk when compared to my existing system. February 2, 201313 yr Keep your pretend water cooling Corsair stuff. My NH-D14 cools like one of those cryogenic superconducting magnet coolers at the Large Hadron Collider. And it's quiet as a mouse. Yep, it is big though. Not quite as big as the LHC.
February 3, 201313 yr Author again thanks all, will look at the oc and cooling on my next days off Been having cooling problems of a different sort today (a320 avionic overide probs) make cpu cooling seem a breeze  Pete Little
February 6, 201313 yr Author well oc aside I have managed to drop my cpu temp by 20+ deg. How you may ask, well now for the embarrasing bit, before adjusting my oc settings I thought I would make sure that a bigger cooler would fit inside my casing so on opening it up I discovered that the radiator for my cpu cooling was absolutely covered in dust from a recent home decorating job  so after a quick clean with a hoover hey its now sitting at 55c with rex running and at 4x sim rate after 90mins I will reverse the fan at some point and will try a manual oc and probably buy a bigger cooler as I do have room but for now I can just monitor and enjoy flying without burning out the cpu Pete Little
February 6, 201313 yr Don't you just love it when it's that easy!! I've had similar things happen to me and I feel too good to be embarrassed!
