Changing MFD from "North Up" to "Heading Up"

Featured Replies

Is there any way to do this, without strange terrain artifacts coming on the display?

In my RW flying experience, it would be quite exceptional to fly with a "North Up" display, yet this G1000 is in that state by default....

Or is this one of the Avionics bugs that people refer to?

Thanks for any help.

I just switched it in the Aux screen in the MFD, no big deal. Mine defaults to North Up though.

Hey guys,

I bought this plane yesterday, as I am 10 hours into a PPL and after I get my license, will be flying in a SR22 GTSx with my husband.

I too could not figure out how to set the MFD to "Heading up", and certainly in my hubby's plane, the displays boot up in Heading mode.... don't think we ever use North up mode.

@ fleeting thought, does this need to be done in the 2D panel? ... Can you talk this poor girl through it?

Hi Fleeting,

Where is the Aux screen do you change from the default North Up? I've looked all through the Aux screen pages but can't find where to change it. Thanks.

Jim

I'm sorry!

Go to right MFD, open the FMS 2D panel (or using the one on the pedestal), hit MENU on it and it will bring you, Garmin-style, to an Options window, hit ENT when flashing over the blue Map Setup text, and you'll have a list of options for the map.

I've left this at default so not sure it saves permanently, but you can save a flight with the plane in the setup you want it in if not.

Hope that helps! Enjoying too many different planes lately. :)

It does not need to be done with 2D, but it can be easier. Are you using TrackIR? Anyway, FleetingThought's instructions are correct. You should find it by clicking MENU, you'll see the display option appear on your right MFD.

OK, I 've got it. Thanks a lot.

Jim

Got it too, thanks guys!

Hey Guys.. I know how to change from Heading North to Heading Up.. But it wont set it as the default. In the owners manual it says at the bottom, ( Defaults for startup can be changed in the G1000_config.xml file.. I found that file but have NO idea how to modify it to KEEP the Heading up value ( 3 ) for Default.. Can anyone point me in the right direction??? I included the file in this post..

Load that file into notepad.exe, make your change(s), then save file back using the same filename and extension. Simple... B)

It let me edit it after I extracted it to the desktop I open it with Notepad changed the value saved it, then try to put it back in the G1000 folder to replace the orig and it wont let me.. Thanks for your reply!

YES.. and it seems like the only folder I am having this problem is Guages in FSX! I modified the XML file on the desktop and when I try to put it back in Guages in the SR22 G1000 folder it wont let me.. I can put the file ANYWHERE on my computer in any folder except that Guages folder and in SR22 G1000! When I right click any file in that folder it ONOY gives me the option to Extract or Copy! Strange!!!!! ANY HELP would BE great ! Im STUCK!!! Thanks!!!!

Oh, is that a folder or a .CAB file in the ..\gauges folder?

If it's a .CAB file, you will need to unzip it before you can make any saveable changes. You do NOT have to re-CAB the extracted folder though.

Yes, I JUST realized that is NOT a folder but in fact a CAB file, thats why It only gives me the option to EXTRACT or COPY! Duhhhh.. LOL... So I extracted the G1000_config.xml to the desktop, I opened it with notepad, made my mod to the XML file and NOW the MILLION $$ question is HOW do I get it back into the CAB file..???????
