ENBSeries still happening?

Recommended Posts

Just wondering, is the enbseries still popular these days? Or are there any other upgrades/alternatives that's become more popular?

I use ENB it works perfectly for me.

Tried SweetFX and it kept crashing my computer. Gave up and went back to ENB.

I use ENB in FS9 and FXAA in FSX. Wondering if FXAA works well in FS9, because it looks way superior to ENB IMHO

I use it and wouldn't fly without it. Spent several hours this weekend trying to improve the daylight effect with a new palette. Very tricky.

I'm also a happy user. Well, if I could tell what renders it a problem for others, I would be a wise man. ^_^

I used to use ENBseries, nowadays when the FSX menu opens it just crashes with D3D9.dll error, googling around it's apparently due to newer drivers, which I always install. So I gave up on enbseries since i'd rather have up-to-date graphics card drivers than enbseries. Lately i've tried sweetFX out of curiosity, at first I wasn't going to since it uses same D3D9.dll to inject the bloom and other nice features... But for some weird reason, sweetFX works! I dunno how that's possible, guess it's a newer version of the .dll file or something but i'm happy.

Just dropped the sweetFX files into fsx main folder and that's it. By default the sweetFX effects were quite unnoticeable to my eyes, since it had pretty much everything disabled but AA. Had to go disable the AA and enable HDR to really see the effect, and then start tweaking it.

Good to know there are some users out there still use it. I haven't spent the time trying to understand it, guess I don't really know what effects I want.

I used NickN(?)'s files last time which were fine, I was happy with it, but now I've lost the settings. Anyone keen to post up some pictures of what their FS looks like before-and-after ENB blooms?

Don't know if it helps but I'm using the REX Natural ENB mod which looks like this. http://jomnisgames.b...al-enbplus.html The download link requires you to have an account in the REX forums though. I've added a file (enbpalette.bmp) from another member which gives a slightly less darkened impression. That's because the cockpits get too dark at times.

An older thread on the case. http://forum.avsim.net/topic/373221-enb-question/

To bring some balance to it all: I stopped using it. Got tired of the effects and side effects. It still is a popular addon though, that I know. But you should really give every option a try yourself: the ini's that people are using differ a LOT, I can tell you, from hardly noticable settings (making you wonder why the heck they use ENB at all!) to way over the top settings (that show some overexposured blobs where the sky used to be and a few black blobs where the ground and the VC used to be... B) ).

I still use NickN's settings for ENB with just a few minor tweaks to suit my setup.

It's still available here: http://www.simforums.com/forums/enb-bloom-mod-nicks-config-updated_topic32482.html

Truly, after mucking with it, I think there's an opportunity for more improvements to the palette. I brightened up a photo using a palette similar to CoolP's...all gray but with brighter grays. When I ran it I found a lot of blue-green. I then took a snapshot of it and put the image in a color correction tool and the corrected image looked amazing! The tool found that the blue-green is high on brighter colors and green is low on darker colors. That may be able to be fixed with a palette. If the palette issue is resolved then the whole field of colors can be brightened and the dark cockpit issue goes away.

Been using ENB for years both in FS9 and FSX. I played with the .ini a lot when I first started using it and short of a quick experiment with someone else's settings or a palette .bmp test here and there, I haven't changed anything since. I don't have it "on" by default, I have to press Shift+F12 to turn it on, but this seems to prevent frequent crashes when transitioning to/from full screen/windowed mode. I don't use the bloom part of it but I can turn it on if I want to with Shift+F9 - I do that occasionally but not often. I tried FXAA and SweetFX, didn't like FXAA at all, SweetFX wasn't bad, and for me it was more stable than ENB, but tweak as I may, I couldn't get an effect that I liked as well. Maybe it was the years and years of getting used to ENB's sort of "soft focus" effect, but SweetFX always seemed too sharp for my tastes, edges of everything looked slightly jaggy to me in spite of 32x AA running in NV Inspector. Finally gave up and went back to ENB. I did like JV's ENB settings available on the FTX forums, and if I used his settings with bloom turned off they are almost identical to my own. The bloom does that over-exposure thing on the clouds and sky which I'm not particularly fond of.

If you have a rare system that magically avoids crashes, than it's great!

Those systems aren't as rare as you think. Specially FSUIPC (the free version) has done miracles on my system. It seems impossible to crash FSX nowadays.
