February 5, 201313 yr I'm getting back to good old 727. How do You calculate Vspeeds and Vref? The first time I had this bird, I was only using 2.0 EPR for take off. Also, after installing INS CIVA I couldnt turn any switches/knobs.
February 5, 201313 yr I hope Harald sees this post and chimes in. He has recently been flying the Dreamfleet 727 with the CIVA INS installed.
February 5, 201313 yr Thank You for the replies. I am using EPR table for speed references. Forgive my ignorance but what sort of information we can get by pressing F10? Yes Im using an installer. I read in the manual how to edit panel.cfg and such but I chose the installer instead so I didnt have to do it manually, but the switches and buttons are inop. I'm happy with VOR and ADF, just curious about this INS
February 5, 201313 yr Hi, here I am... After downloading "ins4df727v2.51.zip" and the CIVA gauges itself (following the link in the readme file of the named archive) I installed them into a sandbox first. Then I moved the files into their appropriate places resp. edited the panel.cfg as required. I had to obey the rather complicated folder structure the DF 727 uses, with one folder for the aircraft variant, another for the panels and within the latter two subfolders for 1.) panel.cfg and 2.) the panel bitmaps. I have installed it on the 727-100 passenger version only, using panel.10 variant. BUT: I decided against using the new TCAS/Xponder gauges - I use just the INS itself. For me it works fine after the necessary studying of the manual (you should it rather read one time more...). In this very moment, I'm at work without access to my sim, but I could post my panel.cfg entries later in the evening (in my timezone I just had lunch). Just a tipp: While the knobs and wheels of the DF 727 are mostly moved by left (down) and right (up) mousebutton, the CIVA knobs work with the left button only as the knobs in most stock planes do. Don't forget clicking one time into the center of the INS knobs at the overhead panel to unlock them first, you can turn them to "Standby", "Align" and "NAV" not earlier than after doing so every time (you will see the knob been pulled out a little). For some hints when inserting coordinates read here: http://forum.avsim.n...viour-question/ Generally, I can only say that I love the DF 727 (I have purchased it after a recommendation of Ian/kiwiflyer as my christmas gift to myself, it's still on sale on the German site of Aerosoft for 12.50 EUR ($ 16 or 17 I believe), but I don't know if you can order it there from anywhere in the world...!). I chose her for my this year southern hemisphere summer RTW trip. Quraisy, I'm currently not far from the airport you have as avatar... F10 = Notepad toggle. Regarding speed, somewhere I read about only three speeds to remark in a 727: 140 kts, 250 kts and "very fast". I have to confess that for the beginning - and as I fly nonscheduled private flights without passengers only - my accuracy in flying departings and approaches doesn't go much beyond this. Coming from the DC-6B, I guess I tend to fly them to slow and with a too low climb/sink rate. I would appreciate help with the speeds, too. February 5, 201313 yr So now here's my panel.cfg - its Panel.10. Note the de-activated add-on TCAS and transponder. February 6, 201313 yr Can't help you with the CIVA, but here are some useful rules of thumb for Vspeeds: http://www.boeing-727.com/Data/fly%20odds/thumb.html DJ
February 7, 201313 yr Absorbing the sheer of information, I took sometime to think and try, sorry for the late reply. Harald, thanks a lot buddy... yes I was trying to get the 727 on sale at aerosoft but it was only available in Germany .. as You notice my avatar, I am nowhere near Germany... I am wondering where on earth You reside now.. will definitely copy your panel config. 2 things that I found are the (semi) autopilot works excellent and in fact it is a lot better than CS737-200 although there should be little chasm between them. Second, I hardly noticed gear roll sound when touchdown on the tarmac (yes, I finally had this bird land on the tarmac without overshooting doh). Have You experienced the missing gear roll sound? Ubersu AKA DJ, thanks for the useful links.. I skip CIVA INS for a while and fly this bird as is.. I am happy.. roaming the support forum on Flightsim, there is no sign Paul Golding will continue developing the 727X, well, the progress was very slow He said
February 7, 201313 yr Quraisy, you're right, I reside in Germany, but every year when it gets November or December I undertake a round-the-world flight with my FS2004 to escape darkness and cold. This year's flight is undertaken with my "private" 727, and a week ago this flight lead me to Bali, Surabaya and Jakarta (loaded the baggage compartments of my plane full of these delicious Indonesian coffee candy). The Bali-Surabaya flight was the first and only VFR flight with the 727. At Surabaya, AES unfortunately worked only at the old terminal area, but with a private 727 one parks hardly between the commercial liners. Regarding gear roll sound, I can hear it. But I had another similar problem: Although I followed the advice to load FS2004 standard flight (Cessna at Seattle...) first, then chose location and DF727, then save a flight strictly with 2D panel sight, I hardly heard the "oil pressurizing - N2 - 19%" callouts when starting the engines. There are some mentions of this problem in the flightsinm/DF727 forum but without a solution. For me, I solved the problem assigning a key shortcut to the "reload user aircraft" command (in fs9.cfg its the line RELOAD_USER_AIRCRAFT= under the keybord assignments section) and everytime I load my flight I reload my aircraft first. Maybe this solves the gear roll sound issue, too. I think the DF727 (or any good 727 - before I used the HJG model, and although not as sophisticated as DF's, it was a superb freeware model ) is a pleasure with and without INS. In my case, at a RTW trip with a leg Punta Arenas - McMurdo, where magnetic heading goes crazy and you have no navaid within several thousand miles, INS helped a lot to have dinner and bring my little son to bed while the 727 took her way 30,000 feet above whiteout. Wish you allways three green with the 727. May I ask which livery and version do you use, and will you simulate vintage passenger flights, contemporary passenger/cargo flights or will you use it as a private plane as I do? Wish you allways three green with the 727. May I ask which livery and version do you use, and will you simulate vintage passenger flights, contemporary passenger/cargo flights or will you use it as a private plane as I do? Harald Hi Harald. Thanks for your encouragement. SBR to BLI is a very short hop, all I needed to do was tune 113.4 MHz it's about 2 km or 1nm to airport from SBR @ 109°mag (110° radial).. and directly tune 116.2 MHz, but BLI is rather far from the airport, it's more than 100km from the aiprort. And tell me how You enjoyed that 180 degrees turn for rwy 09? Be aware that pristine white sandy beach as that might cause you overshooting... ) I'm now still flying to enhance my airmanship with the bird, 727-100, Im saving the best part for last (boy how do I admire T-tail, trimotor with winglets... the sexiest plane!) and will fly the other variants when I suffice my dead reckoning and radio navigation skills... One thing that I have never experienced with my other aircraft is I always keep an eye on the instruments, which is I love it.. and of course, Count Basie's tunes. Yes, AES only works with the old Juanda airport designed by Budi Santoso. There is also Adi Sutjipto (Yogyakarta) which is AES supported, both of them are freeware and don't need no AES credits to activate. So where are You up to now? Will comply with the tips above about the missing gear roll sound. Have a safe and nice sentimental journey sir... ah by the way Harald, this might interest you while you're cruising ( http://www.mymodernm...bell-boeing-727 ) ..make sure You deactivate that Pause On Switching Task sir.. :hi:
February 7, 201313 yr Hi, how I wish I sat in the cockpit again, now I'm at work... I needed my FSCommander to describe my trip to Bali detailled - at the moment I only can say that when I was there, at Bali rwy 27 was the active, and as I was VFR flying and as I'm interested in volcanoes I took a course north of Bali and around Mt. Agung. I never had a problem overshooting the runway with the B727; I rather tend to be too slow at approach - as I mentioned earlier, this may be a habit from flying the DC-6 for the last years almost exclusively (but it seems that this habit was not completely useless at some of the airports named in the next paragraph). In summer I use my Bf 109 of course, but this is a completely different thing. One of the useful habits learned by DC-6 flying is of course observing the instruments, even for the purpose of flying a coordinated turn, although the yaw damper of the 727 makes this still a little difficult. Some words about my this year trip, which I started in early December: EDDC - LSGG - DTAA - LXGB - GCTS - LPHR - KPHL - KOPF - MGGT - MHTG - MROC - SEQU - SPIM - SPZO - SLLP - SLSU - SGAS - SUMU - SCEL - SCTC - SCCI - McMurdo Station - NZAA - YSSY - YBNA - YBBN - AGGH - PKMJ - PTRO - WARR - WADD - WIII - RPLL - ZJSY - VTBD, where I am currently. Next destinations are VECC - ZULS - VNKT - ZWSH - UTDD and after this the plans aren't fixed, I think I should visit UAFM, UAAA, UTTT, UGTB as every year, but then OMDB should be visited and perhaps Africa and Latin America a second time this year because I recently bought SAEZ and the Sao Paulo/Rio series and because I'm so fast with the 727. We'll see... Thanks Sir for the link! The differences to my 727 are: - the interior of my bird is a little more luxurious, I imagine a level similar to this one - but not that campy, more Bauhaus style http://www.aircraft2...27--xm10104.htm (note the price of these planes...) AND: - mine flies! (By the way, you can see a picture of her on PTRO approach in Pete McKays thread about his RTW flight, being one of the most interesting threads currently active IMHO, post #34.)
