Problems with Shez Ansari's Santa Ana scenery?

Featured Replies

Tonight I did a flight from Phoenix to Santa Ana, everything was fine unil about 20 miles from the airport when ATC canceled my IFR for no reason. (I didn't miss any hand off's or anything) This was not a big problem becuase I made my way to the airport and landed. (This happens alot when I fly to Santa Ana)After I landed I decide to fly back to Phoenix. And about 3 minutes after take off FS2004 crashed to the desktop. After the crash I decided to fly from Long Beach to Phoenix and made it to Phoenix without any problems. Is anyone else having similar problems when flying to or from Shez Ansari's Santa Ana scenery?

Try the same flight with all of Shez's scenery disabled. This will help isolate whether its his scenery or not. If the problem disappears, it would be reasonable to consider a flaw in his scenery and the likely start point for root cause might be an Afcad file conflict. Have you written to him?

I have a problem when landing at KSNA it seems the airport is not at the correct elevation. Everything is fine when I takeoff for a destination but when landing at KSNA coming from somewhere else I find my landing gear sunk into the ground and the airports ground scenery has disappeared. I don't have this problem with any other airport... Maybe I need a flatten file or something applied to this scenery because FS2k4 can't seem to get the elevation info corrected when one is landing at this airport.

Hmmm...are you sure you have applied the Service Pack? Other than that no one has reported those problems. The flatten switch is already in the bgl files. For the ATC problem could it be an AFCAD problem? Have you installed an addon AFCAD which could be causing the problem?RegardsShez

When I look in AFCAD there are 3 files for Santa Ana. The original AFCAD, the new AFACD for the scenery, and a third for the taxiway signs. Could that be causing the trouble?

OK as long as you have the Service Pack do not delete the taxisigns. That is not an AFCAD file.If you do have two AFCADs then this might be the source of your conflict.RegardsShez

Well I only have one AFCAD for the scenery so I will try a different AFCAD, maybe the one I have is no good. :-)

Two AFCADs with AFCAD 2.0+ IS NEVER a good idea. You will often run into conflicts with two AFCADs at the same airport. Lee Swordy designed AFCAD 2 so that you wouldn't need an overlay. If you're looking for a good KSNA without overlays try my AFCAD package, it has KSNA in there along with a bunch of others. ;) (Gotta advertise when possible :():-jumpy---------------------Kenneth Weik [link:maam.org|MAAM-SIM][email protected][link:library.avsim.net/search.php?CatID=root&SearchTerm=kenneth+weik&Sort=Added&ScanMode=0&Go=Change+View]My AFCADs

I installed that scenery with FS2002. Generally, I can do this fine, but this this scenery has VERY bizarre behavior. It rotates my compass about 120 degrees. Runway 9 lines up at about 210 degrees, etc. When I get about 25 miles away from KSNA, all of a sudden the compass heading goes back to normal, which really throws off the autopilot. Coming back in, I see the same in reverse.I sent a private e-mail to Shez about this, but I never heard back. I usually attribute something like this to a 2K2/2K4 incompatability, but now I'm not so sure. Thanks for letting me know I'm not crazy. About the compass, anyway.

I just checked the Library, and there's no 2002 version. There is a 2000 version, but modeling techniques have improved so much since then that I didn't even try it.

Err, this scenery is for FS2004 only BTW. Also I think you mean Rwy 19?Shez

I was at work (don't tell my boss!) when I wrote that. I thought there was a 9 in there somewhere. This is such a nice-looking scenery that I've left it in, despite the incompatability with FS2002. The only other problem I've had with it (and don't quote me on this one, it could be the beer-on-brain-cells effect here) was the oversized airport vehicles, which I cured by getting rid of the .bgl file for the vehicles.
